Even TV Guide Loves Them
They aren't officially a couple, but Lost's Sawyer and Kate generate a ton of heat with their spark-filled love/hate attitudes. This unbeatable romantic tension will have to be addressed sooner or later — the island isn't that big. And after the thieving Kate gave the tortured troublemaker one of the hottest kisses of all time, another may send an S.O.S. to Sawyer's heart.

Excerpt from an Evangeline Lilly interview in Lost magazine:
"I try to analyze the situation as realistically as possible and I can only see Kate and Sawyer growing closer from what's happened. If Sawyer gets back to the island, they should have a new sense of value in each other. They say if you love something, let it go, and then see what happens from there. Not only did they break physically, but they really broke ties emotionally before they left. You see them both gazing out across the beach before they left, looking for each other, so they clearly play a significant part in each other's lives. So, OT, but I just finished watching last episode and, I´m sorry, but I really really HATED it!! The polar bear cave scene was terrible bad... and nothing seems to happen... I hate when they do this "spiritual" things, without explaining WTF happened with Desmond, Eko and Locke... WTH did they survive? And the fact that Desmond is now a vident WTF? I need Skate stuff so I an forget this episode ever happened

Hello everyone.
I like the thread title. It's so simple and yet so...

Something that's confusing me about the scene, in which Kate yells 'Jack!', is the tone of her voice. It sounds just as despairing as when she yells 'stop!' and 'Leave him alone!'. I just think that she wouldn't sound like that, if he was simply walking by. Even considering it's the first time she sees him after being captured. Maybe it just appears like that because of the way the promo is cut, but I can't help but wonder, if maybe they lead Jack by the cages while Sawyer is being beaten up and Kate shouts out to him for help. Which doesn't make much sense, since he is tied up and has a bag over his head. GAhh, sorry. It's a stupid theory.

I don´t know what was it! Maybe it is cuz I bealived those thing in season 1 cuz I thougth this was going to be a sciene-fiction show... But then it became really "logical" (in a Lost way), and I thougth everything had an explanation! And now they trough this kind of things again, and I just hated it!!! I thnik it was the worst episode ever! (I hate to feel this way, but I do! )
Not only they didn´t show HTH did this 3 survived, but they created all this misterious situation around the polar bear and then that scene was sooo horrible done

Juli, I think what you have to keep in mind is the writers are not only having to do some damage control, but they are re-directing the show to get it back on course. They lost a lot of ground (no pun intended) last season when they opted to pull out the sci-fi geek cards, thus making the show far too dense, going much too insular in their storytelling. It would have been acceptable direction for the show to go, but certain aspects of the show (characters, storylines) did not gel the way they needed them to, and the quick change feel S2 exuded became more and more apparent as it trudged along.

We, are in a sense being re-introduced to all of our characters, especially ones that seemed to get lost the most. Locke is a prime example of a character that was so poignant to the story arc in keeping the mysteries of the island front and center. Last season the mystical feel of the island and it's properties was nearly nonexistent, and that brought an already slowly paced show to a crawl.

Shipper interest aside, episodes like 'FI' are vital to the overall storyline in moving the show forward. It's also a reminder that despite our "romantic" interests in the show, it is supplementary to the primary storyline, and always will be.

Take for instance the very poor CG polar bear (yes, I agree, horrible special effects) since the premiere, hints have been dropped on the relevance of why polar bears are on a tropical island, and where at one point they were actually caged. Sawyer's cage. Sawyer also shot and killed a polar bear in the pilot episode. Charlie's reference to the intelligence of polar bears was referenced as well, which is a nice set up to what we'll hopefully find out in the next episode that features Sawyer.

What is up with the bears? Being artic creatures, how have they survived on a tropical island? Did they go mad in light of Dharma's experiments? Were they released into the jungle, or did they figure a way out of their cages once they tired of fishbiscuits and food pellets? What was the reason for Dharma studying them? How does this relate to Sawyer and why the Others took him?

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to tell you how you should view 'Lost', but I would encourage you to try and find enjoyment in the overall storyline, not just Sawyer and Kate and the romantic aspect of their relationship, because if the way the story is being built up as far as I can tell, their romance will only be a small aspect of the show once we come back from the hiatus.

I actually liked that there was another polar bear in FI. (Aside from how laughable it looked.) Mysterious polar bears again! Alright, it's old school Lost! I liked that FI had an S1 feel to it because let's face it, the direction they were going in in S2 wasn't the best. I'm glad they acknowledged that things need to get back on track to what made the show good in the first place.

I agree with Darbi, and yes the polar bear looked incredibly cheesy. But this is the show going back to the mythological aspects of the story, things like the polar bears, the horse, Jack's dad are all things that are important to the story. I just found it a little rushed, and I think they will explain how the three survived down the line.
