Elizabeth/Juliet #10: The girl next door you don't want to piss off

Welcome to the 10th Appreciation Thread for
Elizabeth&Juliet

"Queen of Ambiguity"

"She's beautiful, a wonderful actress, and a wonderful person."
- Laura Innes
"With Elizabeth, I have the biggest crush on her. "
- Evangeline Lilly

"My favourite one for the third season is One Of Us. That's the one where Juliet
comes back to the camp, Claire gets sick and miraculously Juliet can help us.
Then you find out in her back-story it was all planned. I really like Elizabeth
Mitchell as an actress. She is amazing and I love seeing her on screen."
- Gregg Nations

Yeah, looks like it.

I was actually wondering if anyone has a favorite Juliet scene or something. Mine has to be the kitchen scene with Ben in OOU. That was pure perfection. I can watch that thing 100 times and never tire of it.

Thanks for the new thead! Great title! And it's the 10th!

But one thing I did notice is that female characters are by far more hated on this show than the males (except for one prominent exception) no matter who it is.
I think is not just on this show. I mean, this show has the largest number of hated characters that I've ever seen but still .. I think overall in Tv, the female characters are the most hated ones, sadly. At least, when I run through FF, that's the impression I get. I guess, it's because the majority of the people on FF are female posters, and I believe most women cut the men some more slack than the women and also, it's like with those shows like AI, female voters tend to always vote for the male contestant. I don't watch those shows nor vote, but I read this somewhere, and I found it interesting because that's so not me.

Even Claire has a good number of antis because of her accent.

But what I've seen is that some people have problems to get past their first impressions of the characters. Lost has a thing for turning the perceptions of characters around but if you believe it or not, there are people out there who just aren't willing to change their perception of the characters and in Juliet's case, she will never be more than the evil and manipulative Other who held Kate, Sawyer and Jack captive no matter what she does. It's a shame.
I guess that's true. But in that case, Ben is also a evil and manipulative Other who held them captive, and he's not hated. I guess, it's because she's a woman, I don't know..

I didn't really pay much attention to Charlotte. I'm indifferent to her. The only thing that I thought when she, and the rest of the freighties showed up, was that this show has already too many people to include more 4.

That's definitely my favorite or at least one of my favorites too. I also love the one where they're on the rocks near the sea , and Ben tells her Rachel is sick and he asks her to stay on the island in exchange for her sister's cure. That episode just rocks. It's amazing. EM is excellent in it. It's, I think, the best episode in season 3.

I also really liked the scene where she tells Jack for how long she's been on the island, because it's the first time she shows her vulnerable side, and you can see that there's more to her than just being the Other who holds them prisoner.

Yay new thread, thanks

I have to say, that in general, women seem to get hated on a lot more than men in fandoms - be it for books, movies, music, tv shows etc. I know alot of people comprising fandom are female and that just makes me sad ... why are women each other's worst enemies ? What a guy does is alright but when it comes to the female, all hell break loose. The amount of characters that people dislike in this fandom is the same I've seen in other ones and so it's not just Lost. Just fandom in general. And yes, all fandoms will have stupid reasons like accents and being ugly and stuff. Just not cool IMO but ah well. And yes, people have a hard time changing first impressions. Charlotte I was first indifferent too but now I do enjoy her, so it does change for me sometimes.

The Juliet scene I like the most is when she plays Jack the video and gives him the message when convincing him to kill Ben. I love the whole thing there ... but I have a lot of favourite scenes

The difference between Ben and Juliet is that Ben got introduced as a villain and remained that way while Juliet didn't. However, that doesn't stop some people to still look at her as a villain because they can't get past their first impression of the character. You have no idea what kind of crazy theories you can find out there on the internet about Juliet. Things like "the surgery on Jack was staged in order to gain the trust of the Losties or to put an implant into him", "Juliet only wanted to keep Sun on the beach in order to get her own ass off the island" and things like that. Some people do this because they still look at her as if she hasn't changed from her season 3 characterization and some people do it because they like her better as a villain, a second Ben if you will. Especially the fanboys prefer the manipulative badass version of the character.

And it's true that there are many people out there who want to see Claire die because of the way she pronounces "my baby". It's silly IMO but that's the way it is.

^ That reason for hating Claire is sickening, really. Very pathetic.

P.S. Yay - new thread!

It's mine as well! It was just so intense and brilliantly performed. It was the only moment on this show where I felt like someone actually outshined ME.

^ You're right! Even though both actors played their parts brilliantly, it was Elizabeth who takes the cake.

Elizabeth owned it. When she smacked the glass out of Ben's hand and got up in his face...dude! I was blown away. He actually looked scared of her.

Elizabeth owned the entire episode in my opinion. That's why it was so disappointing that she got snubbed by the Emmy Awards.

Ben really looked scared in that scene. I'm sure Michael had no particular problems playing Ben's fear considering that he thinks Juliet is the scariest character on Lost. He says it in every interview.
