Exactly, Mary. It's one thing to carry on the triangle for some added drama for those first 3 seasons and while it was still somewhat natural. After this point, there's only so much more they can do before they've ruined the story (I would say cheapened, but sadly that has already happened...well more so on one side though

). I fear that if they continue tossing Kate around to where we feel like we're watching a tennis game, I'm not going to care about shipping on Lost anymore, because it will have become a joke. But we'll see. I'm open to seeing how they handle things in s4. Jack and Kate's story still has sooo much potential so here's to hoping they don't mess it up by pandering to the triangle cliche!

Honestly I really don't think the triangle will continue that much longer, I should hope the writers would have more sense then to drag it out for another two (or even god forbid) 3 seasons. No if they listen to the fans then they'll know that the triangle of doom is far from a popular storyline these days and with the spoiler of a

new triangle coming into play during episode 4, I really think this is indicative of the J/K/S triangle finally ending, or getting closer to an ending at least.

I have no worries as to its resolution either since Jack and Kate have always been OTP. Its undeniable tbh. We have all the tells of an OTP. Like the fact that Jack and Kate's relationship is usually only used to further the development of their bond and feelings towards each other, it isn't just used to further the story or inspire the motivations of another character. For example take the first kisses of the quadrangle couples.

Skate kiss in CM: Without doubt this is the episode (in fact scene) which seals Skate as a ship on Lost. Sawyer and Kate share a kiss which serves the purpose of showing that there is something between these two. But also, when Jack learns of this (like literally 2 minutes later) it makes him realise that actually he's jealous, in fact it adds to the jealousy he felt earlier when Kate does not deny that she and Sawyer share a connection. We are seeing that Jack probably feels more than he would like to about Kate. We are also seeing a development in the rivalry between Sawyer and Jack.

Jate Kiss in WKD: No one knows about the kiss except Jack and Kate, not Sawyer, not Juliet, not even the all knowing others, and so in my head the purpose of Kate kissing Jack in this scene was to only further the Jate relationship and how they react to each other in the coming episodes. It has nothing to do with anyone else, it doesn't effect anyone else. Its just Jate.

Jacket Kiss in TTLG: Well this kiss was most certainly not all about the ever blooming relationship that is Jacket! How many times did the camera cut to Kate in this moment? Who's reaction did Jack look for after Juliet kissed him? Not to mention that this is also probably a factor which made Jack decide to tell Kate he loves her.

So you see Jate just seems to be there to show Jate, whereas Skate/Jacket seem to be there to show other things wether it be to further the storyline or just the actions of other characters. If we also take into account the timings of each first kiss after they meet (Skate after a few days, Jacket about 2 weeks, Jate about 2 months) it just feels like the writers are taking more time and care over the Jate relationship. The writers are not forcing Jate to get together after a matter of episodes in cages, its not a ship brought into the middle of the show to make one particular character jealous, its a ship that has been there from the begining. Jate has been the constant and it is slowly, steadily building and growing as the show moves forward, the writers are taking care of this relationship and making it believeable, these imo are signs of an OTP.
Remember also that mostly all OTPs have gimmicks too, themes which recur often in the course of their storyline usually during times of great emotion. Off the top of my head for example Robbie/Cecillia (Atonement) 'Come back to me'. Does Jacket have one? Cheeseburgers, no. Skate? Fishbuiscuits/Strawberries no. Jate the story (1-5), live together die alone, yes. It just all seems to add up to Jate, I can't see any other solution to what we have been shown by the writers and I'm not being delusional! Eventually as we see the story of Lost unfold, we'll see the story of Jate unfold. Skate and Jacket are part of the Jate storyline, they are devices to delay the shows ultimate couple not to end it as we have already seen. I don't think they'll mess up Jack and Kate because Darlton have plans for Kate and someone (as stated in the podcast) its the couple they care about getting together propperly and to me that's not the couple who got together through manipulated cage sex.

I love your breakdown of the kisses, how you mentioned how private Jack and Kate's was, and your explanation of the build up of Jate.

And the fact that the other couples of the show have been built up to eventually lead to Jate is all the more proof of their importance to the show. Your example of the 1-5 Story as Jate's recurring theme was awesome too! I just love your whole post. It makes me so excited for what's to come for the OTP.

Great points!! I think 3 seasons is enough of slow and steady right? Time to move forward even just a bit yes?
