Yea, like stuff that you can critique/would have done differently/full on disliked thread. And like the couples board you can't like quote and respond, because people will just get defensive and whatever, lol.

And naw, it should be one thread.. having numerous is illogical.

But honestly that could be tricky because people could just find a way to respond to targeting a part of the show you like if they cannot directly respond, you know?

For instance if I said I didn't like that Juliet manipulated Kate a lot of the times this season, someone might get just respond by finding a way to diss Kate without directly responding to my quote. That is why one thread wont work well on this thread as it does on the couples board. It would be hard to control the baiting in such a scenario.

Welcome to the newbies!

About the thread I dont know really... I am just afraid that a thread like that one is going to backfire and only bring even more tension to this board. But the Mods know best I suppose, they will know if we should have one or not.

I don't think it's a good idea to have such threads. They'd only make it worse and more inflamed on the board.

I honestly don't see the necessity to have them here. We can always focus on the characters/ships we like. And we already have anti-threads. The talk being said there doesn't always have to be harsh or hateful. It could be just critical.

I'm a fan of Jack, and if I wanted to criticize certain sides of him. I can just discuss them in his appreciation thread, cause it'll be all civil, and I'm a fan after all. On the other hand, if I'm not a fan of a certain character. Ben, for example, and I wanted to do some criticizing that would bother his fans, I'll take it to his anti-thread. I don't think new threads are needed.

There's also that couples board on which people do their venting on the ships they don't like when they want to.

A critical "analysis" thread?

I agree! More place for festering tensions to boil over! Comments designed to be critical in their "analysis," will only serve to inflame matters! I suspect the 'critical analysis' will be couched in hostile terms anyway!

And the old chesnut of "dont' read if you don't like" just wont wash cos inevitably word gets round and people will be diving in left right and centre!

And what of the predictable justifications that will ensue?? "We aint hating - we're just criticizing..." It'll be a bloody modding nightmare, that's what it will be!

Furthermore, why should the Lost board be clogged up with hate threads and and criticism threads anyway? I'm sure there are other infamous places to vent grievances!

I don't think it's a good idea as well. We have tension enough around here, those threads would just bring more and more. Yes, you can say "don't read it, don't post in it", but i don't think it's gonna change the tension to come with it.

In my opinion the anti-threads and the "... you don't like" threads are fairly enough, so i'm completely against it.

I agree with you all...

A critical analysis thread will perhaps be like a lighter version! of anti-threads only this time it will open the doors for endless and pointless debates where noone will change the mind of the other.
Come on now we all know how debate/critical analysis threads turn out in the end

If you are a fan of one character you can criticize him/her in a polite and peaceful way and you can debate the actions of the character with his/her fans...

Or if you hate/dislike a character you can also criticize that character in whataver way you want in the anti threads...

If you want to do the same with the couples, there are threads for both fans and haters. You can critize them in the pro-threads with their fans or make it in the anti threads with ppl who dislike them.

I can't see the necessity of a critical analysis thread.

Well no offense to any of you but it's a lot easier for you guys on this board because those tensions don't exist for you guys. It exists between Skate/Juliet fans and Suliet/Juliet fans. Take a look in the Juliet thread, we can barely coexist without getting a warning each day for turning the thread into "Skate vs Suliet" apparently. But for fans of Jack that really doesn't exist because I don't see any of them going into Juliet or Sawyer threads to see where the problems arise.

Thing is, a ton of jaters are Juliet fans but of course we don't go in there EXACTLY because it is turning into mayhem before you can even get your foot in the water. I and many others have taken a GOOD look at it, trust me, and it drives people away soooooo fast.

This board just simply can't have a civil thread like the one you are suggesting. It will bring more and more tension. People will want to defend, they wouldn't be able to, which would lead to subtle oh-so-nice implications and before you know it WARNING-WARNING-WARNING.

If the majority likes the idea, it's not like I'm gonna go in and Bale Out but if you ask me...thank you but no.

I'm with you... There's already tension in most of the popular threads whether its anti or pro.
Even if there will be a critical "analysis" thread i'll stay away just like i stay away from Kate/Evi and Liz/Juliet threads... not that i don't love those 2 characters/actresses coz i do, a lot, but i don't want to create any more tension.

That is not the point though. Of course a lot of Jaters are Juliet fans but a lot of Skaters are Juliet fans too, but their also Skate fans. THAT is the dilemma. There isn't any dilemma in Juliet fans who are Jaters. Suppose I wanted to say that Juliet's failures with men was a product of her own wrongdoing, because she continuous to go for guys who were already taken, even back to her goodwin days...how should I say such a thing in the Juliet thread? Yet I am not anti-Juliet, so why would I post in that thread?

Well if you want to criticize her actions with men you can do that on the Couples You Hate, right? You can go there and vent about Jules making the wrong choices. You can say there that you didn't like her with Goodwin because of this and that and so on. Why would you want to do that here where many Juliet fans could get upset? What's the point? On that other thread I'm mentioning you can say that for example, you don't like Suliet because along with everything else Jules makes wrong decisions blah blah. If you do that here, chances are all hell will break loose again.

But that does not leave room for open discussion, it would just be people who agree with my POV and others offering no insight, that is the problem. LostForum is a lot better in that regard because you can say whatever you want about the characters as long as you don't bash each other. On this forum you can't even mention Jack in the Skate thread, or Sawyer in the Jate thread. How does that leave room for open discussion? If we're all mature we can discuss rationally instead of getting tensed up that we did not like what we read.
