That episode was amazing!!! best of the season so far! The island is a cork...metaphorically. __________________

Awesome sh_t! One of the best episodes I've seen in recent times.
So who still thinks Jacob's the bad guy of the story? |

Jesus. That episode was incredible. Despite not usually loving the mythology of the show (I know, I know), the episodes I've enjoyed the most this season have been the ones that have actually answered questions.
In certain aspects, I felt like the episode was slightly contrived. Maybe it was just because of the fast pace at the beginning of the Black Rock crashing on the island, etc, but I quickly warmed up. It gave us a really great foundation for what I think will be the cathartic moment on the show. Jacob, we are led to believe, is good. The island, as he said, prevents evil from seeping into the rest of the world. (I loved the cork analogy, by the way). Thus, we are to expect that MIB is evil, correct? If that is the case, and if in the flash-sideways, Jack has effectively sunk the island, then that inherently means that Smokey/MIB has escaped. Which means that, despite not seeming like it, the sideways timeline is inundated with evil. Interesting thought. Nestor was absolutely incredible this episode. He has an excellent range -- and he managed to break away from the sometimes monotone, or rather, somewhat emotionless, character we've gotten to know as Richard. The scene between he, Hurley, and Isabella at the end absolutely broke my heart. And MIB smashing the wine against the tree stump? Awesome. __________________

Unsure if the episode was dull or pure genius.
1) I think I could have done without 37 minutes of Richard crying and in chains, pretty much alone. Don't get me wrong, he was amazing. He nailed holding an entire episode on his own and really showed his acting chops. But still, kind of slow. 2) I also think his loss of faith in Jacob to the end, where I suppose he regained it was a little flimsy. 3) MIB really had me going at first, really thinking that maybe Jacob was evil/the devil and I was super confused for a while. I guess because Dogen gave Sayid the spiel about the knife in order to kill Flocke. So I am reeeaaallllly skeptical about that. 4) Jacob OWNED. Like, every second. He's just so kickass, once he showed up I was so pleased. 5) The wine bottle/cork analogy to describe the island and MIB is really intriguing. I like it a lot. And Jacob's speech about how he can't intervene, but we were led to believe he influenced the losties' lives. I'm not sure I entirely trust what he told Richard. 6) This makes me think more and more that the sideways is linked to Jacob/MIB - my deal with the devil theory. It can't just be that the plane never landed because their lives are different. Why and how? 7) Also, why didn't Richard know what to do? 8) Generally, I'm confused, and I don't really trust what we were told necessarily. I trust that Jacob is keeping MIB prisoner on the island. I trust that MIB wants to get off. This is a show of "grey", so although I love Jacob to pieces because he's so freaking awesome, I have doubts as to whether this is really so black and white. 9) my head hurts. 10) oy. |

Someone needs to transcribe Jacob's speech to Richard so we can study it. |
