North Shore: News and Information

North Shore is a new show on Fox premiering on June 14th. It airs on Mondays at 8pm Eastern/7pm Central. It's an ensemble drama based at a lush Hawaii hotel (the fictional Grand Waimea Hotel). It's an Upstairs/Downstairs look at a luxury hotel on Hawaii's big island and deals with the staff at the hotel and their guests. The show stars Kristoffer Polaha as Jason Mathews, the who's the head of guest relations hotel, and Brooke Burns as Nicole Booth, the hotel's manager and Danny's ex-girlfriend. Also starring in the show is the incredibly good-looking Corey Sevier (from Black Sash), Amanda Righetti (Hailey from The OC), Jason Momoa (Baywatch), James Remar, Nikki Deloach (MMC), and Michael Ontkean.

It comes from the creative team of Peter Elkoff ("Mr. Beautiful"), Kevin Falls ("The West Wing"), Chris Brancato and Bert Salke ("Boomtown"). The first episode was directed by Peyton Reed (who directed the movies Bring It On and Down With Love).

The series, previously known as "Oahu" and "The Big Island," is a one-hour serial drama that takes place at a luxury hotel in Oahu, Hawaii where the international elite stay and revolves around the hotel's twentysomething employees and how they handle relationships among themselves and with the wealthy hotel guests.

James Remar plays Vincent Boyd, a managing partner of the hotel. Righetti plays the hotel's concierge.

North Shore is filmed on location in Hawaii. It's described as a cross between "Hotel" and Melrose Place. Thirteen episodes have been ordered so far, but it will be increased to 22 if the show is successful.

It airs on the Fox network on Mondays at 8pm Eastern/Pacific or 7pm Central/Mountain. Repeats air on Fridays on Fox at 8pm Eastern/Pacific or 7pm Central/Mountain

This was what Fox's press release had to say about North Shore:

NORTH SHORE (June 14): NORTH SHORE is a lush drama that captures the passion, intrigue and heart of Hawaii. This 20-something ensemble series is set at the Grand Waimea, a luxury hotel, where JASON MATTHEWS (KRISTOFFER POLAHA, "America's Prince: The John F. Kennedy Jr. Story") is the popular general manager and his ex-girlfriend NICOLE (BROOKE BURNS, "Shallow Hal," "Dog Eat Dog") is the newly hired head of guest relations, having left her father's hotel empire to make her own way in the business – and in life. Working side by side causes much tension between them, but their romantic relationship may be far from over. Surrounding them in paradise is the rest of the hotel staff, who have dramatic lives of their own. NORTH SHORE delves into relationships among the recurring characters, with the added intrigue of stories about the hotel's affluent and powerful guests.

Encores will air on Thursday at 8 PM, instead of Fridays.

--------

Just as interesting as the hotel's clientele is its staff, which is filled with friends, thrill-seekers, former con artists and dreamers in paradise. Waitress MJ Bevans (Nikki DeLoach, Misery Loves Company), Jason's surrogate little sister and roommate, is just waiting for her t-shirt design business to blossom into a fashion empire. Chris Remsen (Jay Kenneth Johnson, Days of Our Lives) runs an adventure company that caters to Waimea guests and bartender Frankie Seau (Jason Momoa, Baywatch) keeps those guests well-lubricated while trying to hide a mysterious past. And let's not forget Gabriel Miller (Corey Sevier, Black Sash), the young lifeguard trying to carve out a surfing career, or Tessa Lewis (Amanda Righetti, The O.C.), a former con artist who's now putting her skills to use as the Waimea's concierge.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The North Shore delves into relationships among the recurring characters, with the added intrigue of stories about the hotel's affluent and powerful guests. Intrigue and excitement await every guest at the Grand Waimea. Just ask the staff.

Ex-lovers Jason (Kristoffer Polaha) and Nicole (Brooke Burns) are forced to work together in "North Shore."

Waitress and wannabe fashion designer MJ (Nikki DeLoach) and thrill-seeeker Chris (Jay Kenneth Johnson) are an item.

Jason becomes Cary Lane's (guest star Brittany Daniel) knight in shining armor in the premiere epside.

FOX Says Aloha to 'North Shore'

June 3, 2004
"American Idol"'s JASMINE TRIAS brought a great deal of attention to the 50th state. Now Hawaii says aloha to a new TV series that like "Magnum P.I." and "Hawaii Five-0" actually shoots in the islands.

On Monday, June 14, at 8 p.m., FOX premieres "North Shore," a sizzling hourlong look at the lives of the wealthy hotel guests who check into the five-star Grand Waimea Hotel on Hawaii's north shore and the staff that serves them.

And what a staff! Gorgeous KRISTOFFER POLAHA, who is hunky enough to have been cast as JOHN KENNEDY JR. in the TV movie "America's Prince: the John F. Kennedy Jr. Story," plays Danny Peel, a native Hawaiian and the hotel's head of guest relations.

Newly arrived as the Director of Guest Relations is rich girl Nicole Booth, played by BROOKE BURNS, who shakes up Danny's world. She is the one that got away, and now the former lovers have to put aside their unresolved personal issues in order to work together. But Nicole has her own axe to grind as she struggles to prove herself outside of her daddy's hotel empire.

The series promises stories full of thrill-seekers, con artists and a cast of characters who will do anything to achieve their dreams. Not to mention the requisite number of babes in bikinis and buff beachboys in briefs.

"Sex and the City"'s JAMES REMAR again plays a wealthy magnate as the wealthy owner of the resort. Also in the cast are JASON MOMOA, "The O.C."'s AMANDA RIGHETTI, COREY SEVIER, NIKKI DeLOACH and JAY KENNETH JOHNSON.

The lush and lavish, 20-something drama reflecting the differences between the haves and have nots should capture "The O.C." crowd this summer while Ryan, Seth, Summer and Marissa are on hiatus. Mahalo!

From ew.com:

North Shore
Fox June 14 8 p.m.

''North Shore'' exec producer Chris Brancato would like to think of his series -- a sexy ''Upstairs, Downstairs'' soap set at a luxury Hawaiian resort -- as a cross between ''Gosford Park'' and ''Blue Crush.'' ''Hopefully, we'll tilt more toward 'Gosford Park.''' Oh, no -- someone get this man lei'd! ''Shore'' has the potential to be pure guilty-pleasure goodness: Kristoffer Polaha stars as Jason, general manager of the ritzy Grand Waimea. He's got major workplace tension, thanks to his ex-girlfriend (''Baywatch'''s Brooke Burns), who helps him run the joint, a scheming concierge (Amanda Righetti, moonlighting from ''The O.C.''), and demanding guests like the U.S. vice president...and his mistress.

Shot on Oahu, ''Shore'' will exploit Hawaii -- weather permitting. Much of the pilot had to be reshot due to recasting (James Remar, shown with Polaha and Burns, replaced Rob Estes as the Waimea's slightly shady owner) and a stormy spring. Brancato adds that ''Shore'''s commitment to exotic local color means plenty o' skin. ''We all know a show set in Hawaii will feature a couple bathing suits.'' Mahalo!

WHY WE'LL TUNE IN With its sudsy plots and luxurious beach setting, ''North'' is the top contender to satisfy our ''O.C.'' jones.

Bringing this over from the Nikki thread:

Nikki is apart of the 12 sizzling actors to watch out for this summer. Source: eonline.com

Summer Activity: Fox's North Shore

Why She Sizzles: Considering its alumni--Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling and Britney Spears--The Mickey Mouse Club hasn't let us down as a talent factory. Deloach, ex-Mouser, ex-member of pop group Innosense and ex-girlfriend of JC Chasez, is getting a fresh start in Hawaii as Fox attempts to mimic some of the O.C.-size success with its newest geographically named prime-time soap.

North Shore follows the ups and downs of the staff at a Hawaii luxury resort. Deloach's girl-next-door waitress with a flair for fashion rooms with the hotel's general manager and has caught the eye of an adventure-company owner. We wager she'll be lei'd by fall.

'North Shore' Splashes onto FOX
(Thursday, June 10 12:04 AM)
By Jacqueline Cutler

HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) - - Perhaps Oahu can do for "North Shore" what Orange County did for "The O.C." last summer -- have gorgeous young things propel their pathos into a major hit for FOX.

Premiering Monday, June 14, the one-hour drama is " 'Gosford Park' for 'The O.C.' set," says executive producer Chris Brancato. "What we are really doing is focusing on a luxury hotel in Hawaii where people from the mainland come to escape their problems. Oftentimes, the downstairs contingent of the hotel gets involved with the problems and helps solve them."

The downstairs contingent, the workers at The Grand Waimea, are general manager Jason (Kristoffer Polaha, "Tru Calling"), guest-relations director Nicole (Brooke Burns, "Baywatch"), waitress MJ (Nikki DeLoach, "Longshot") and lifeguard Gabriel (Corey Sevier, "Black Sash").

Vincent (James Remar) owns the hotel. "I'm the grown-up," Remar says. "You stay in this business long enough and you get to be the grown-up instead of the rebel without a cause."

In the pilot (a tape was not available at press time but the script was), Vincent explains how his father bought the land in 1948 for $18,000. Twenty years later, the dad wanted to cash in for $300,000 and Vincent begged him not to. Vincent took it from a cheap tourist trap to a world-class hotel and recently was offered $200 million for the property. He refuses to sell.

The twist here is that the man offering the major bucks is Nicole's father, a hotelier, whom Burns describes as "Trump-esque." "She doesn't want to be under his thumb," Burns says of her character's decision to launch her career in Hawaii, far from Dad. "She wants to learn the hotel business in her own way without being the owner's kid."

Nicole and Jason have a steamy past, and it's clear from the start that it was an ugly breakup from which neither has fully recovered. Nicole has a new fiance, but she still loves Jason.

"He is very mellow but very ambitious," Polaha says of Jason, who was raised on the island by a father who was a world champion surfer and who makes surfboards.

Polaha is learning to surf for this show. "It is strenuous," he says. "Your neck is lifted up and you're paddling out. It's a blast."

With a hotel as the focal point, the show is perfect for guest appearances. Justin Guarini, runner-up from "American Idol," has a cameo in the pilot. Brancato says he is mulling over "celebratious" guests, those who are famous for being famous, such as reality show contestants. Trista and Ryan from "The Bachelor" will be on. Brancato nixed an appearance by Omerosa of "The Apprentice," although he wants Donald Trump in a guest role.

"North Shore" plans on taking advantage of Hawaii, including the surf culture of Oahu, the Waikiki tourist industry, Honolulu's financial district, and Buddhist temples around the island, Brancato says. Working on stages built for "Hawaii Five-O" and used for "Magnum, P.I." and "Baywatch," "North Shore" built a $1 million set of a lavish hotel lobby.

"It's going to be amazing television," Polaha says, boosting his first steady gig. "Everyone should watch it twice a week. Call your grandparents. We are going for the kids, the old folks home. It is going to be 'Masterpiece Theatre' meets 'American Idol.'"

A New Drama Brews on North Shore

Book'em has new Meaning

Johnson excited about North Shore

North Shore Set to Launch on Fox Television on June 14

Quote:
From The Blackshear Times

Nikki DeLoach lands a leading
role in Fox series

Nikki DeLoach as MJ Bevans in "North Shore". DeLoach is the
daughter
of David and Terri DeLoach of Blackshear.

By DeAnn Komanecky
Staff Writer

Fans of Blackshear's own Nikki DeLoach are in for a treat.
The 24 year-old will be appearing in prime-time Monday on the Fox
Network's new TV show, "North Shore".
Nikki has a leading role in the series, located, and filmed in
Hawaii. Set in a luxury hotel, "The Grand Waimea", Nikki
plays the
part of waitress MJ Bevans _ a young woman waiting for her dream
of
making it in the fashion business.
The character has some similarities with DeLoach, who has been
pursuing her dream of a career in show business since she was a
little girl.
"I've always wanted to act," says Nikki. "I'm so
thankful for this
opportunity."
Nikki sang and danced on local stages as a young child. She got her
first big break at 13, when she was cast as a member of the new
Mickey Mouse Club TV show.
Her time on the show led the talented young girl to become part of
the now disbanded pop group Innosense. Nikki left the group about two
years ago.
Nikki has also appeared in a television movie, "The Jim Valvano
Story" and the feature film, "Traveller".
"There have been a lot of sacrifices, but she's worked hard
and been
persistent since she was a little girl," says her mother Terri
DeLoach.
The multi-talented young woman is certainly working hard these days
_
even if the long hours are in tropical Hawaii.
"Somedays we work until 4 in the morning," says Nikki.
Those long work days are well worth it, according to Nikki.
"I've never worked with a more amazing group of people. The
background of Hawaii and the people more than make up for the long
days."
Nikki will be keeping up that busy work schedule at least until
September.
"Fox has ordered 13 episodes, we'll know in July if it gets
picked-up
for nine more," says Nikki.
Viewers familiar with Nikki may not recognize the dark haired beauty
right away _ she has gone blond for the part.
"I had just had my hair colored very dark, with lots of red when
I
got the part _ then they told me they needed me blond," she
laughs.
Changing her hair wasn't a problem for Nikki _ everything
about the
job seemed part of a bigger plan.
"The music business had been hard on me. It all just seemed like
God's way of saying take time out and go to school," says
Nikki.
