The News Thread (Updated 4/23)

Best in Show

"Going up against those two shows ["CSI", "The Apprentice"] is like finding yourself in a buffet line behind a couple of sumo wrestlers. Not a lot of scraps left. The thing is, Wonderfalls is the best show of the lot."

Maiden Voyage

"In an era when so much television is derivative and disappointing, it's pleasing to know that some network execs are willing to take risks."

Bribe a Nielsen Family!

"THE subject line read simply "Unleash the e-mail hounds!!"

And unleashed they certainly were.

"Wonderfalls" producers Todd Holland, Tim Minear and Bryan Fuller are taking matters into their own hands, reaching out to the Internet in search of support for their critically acclaimed show."

Falling for Wonderfalls

"The third episode of Wonderfalls airs tonight on Fox (now on Thursday nights at 9:00 p.m. est), and if the early returns are indication, we'll be lucky if the executives at Fox allow three more of them to see daylight."

More Praise

"Highlighting a busy TV weekend that also includes a fresh episode of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and the chance to experience the musical magic that is Britney Spears in concert is a new episode of "Wonderfalls.""

Yet Another Sacrifice

"”Wonderfalls” is one of the season’s best new shows, ranking right up there with “Carnivale” and “Joan of Arcadia,” the latter of which some will think it is a rip-off even though both shows were developed at the same time. Indeed, “Wonderfalls” was originally supposed to debut last fall, and had even better buzz than “Joan.""

Joan of Niagara Falls

"Fortunately, Fox sent out more than one episode of "Wonderfalls." After three episodes, its rhythms felt more comfortable, and it began to stand on its own."

More Praise

"But now, things ratchet up to giddy-great with the introduction tonight of "Wonderfalls," unquestionably the best new drama series of the 2003-04 season."

I See Live Statuettes

"But the category-defying "Wonderfalls" doesn't need a catch phrase to advertise its delights. Debuting tonight at 9 on Fox (KCPQ-TV), this is the rise-and-sing show we've been awaiting all season."

Article: How Fox killed WF and general logic behind TV lineups

I was sorry to hear that Wonderfalls is cancelled. Its very funny and I enjoy it. Why cancel a show just as its getting good? I hope they either change their minds or another network or cable channel takes it.

It's not actually about Wonderfalls, but it has some comments from Todd Holland: CBS, NBC Plan More Series Spinoffs

One of these days we'll check our tv guides and see CSI: Boise right after Survivor: Iraq. Up against Law & Order: Motor Vehicle Division and Celebrity Fear Factor with OJ Simpson. And of course My Big Fat Greek Obnoxious Midget Fiance on Fox.

And we won't bat an eye.

Thanks for the link.

Wonderfalls: En Francais!

"What the viewers reassure themselves, they will be able to see the next year, to Tv Quebec, the 13 episodes of the series Wonderfalls, putting in star the comédienne Caroline Dhavernas."

Tim and Todd:

"FOX Studios has stated that if another network is willing to pick up Wonderfalls, they will allow the show to be picked up, and currently they have a firm commitment from one of the netlets(he didn't say which one, but it would be something along the lines of USA, TNT or the like) to air all the episodes as a 'limited series' which would mean it wouldn't get a second season, but everyone's hard work would be seen." He indicated that they are still looking to see if one of the networks or netlets would be willing to pick it up with the possibility of a second season, but if not, this could be a very good thing for Wonderfalls and then would make a later DVD release a much bigger possibility than it is now."

"Here's the long and mostly short of it --

From what I understand, and this is by no means assured, the WB is going to screen an episode of "Wonderfalls" when they screen their pilots. We of course would hope they'd love what see so much that they'd add "Wonderfalls" to their schedule. Unlikely, but that's a dream.

When speaking about "netlet" Bryan was talking about a cable situation, not unlike Bravo picking up Keen Eddie and airing produced episodes. So the chances are fair to good that our 13 will see the light of some day. I'm still angling for a DVD release as well.

That's all I know, and it ain't much."

Wonderfalls Animal Adoption - A Success!

"The Wonderfalls Animal Adoption Project is done, and the donation total came out to $214.16. I'm once again amazed by the generosity of the fans, and want to say a big thank-you to everyone who donated. E-mails will be going out to all the donors this weekend to let them know the donation total and where the money is going. I'm also sending off the adoption applications this weekend. I need to do my math again to be sure it all works out, but I believe we're getting a penguin from the Aquarium of Niagara Falls, a flamingo, monkey, and donkey from the Los Angeles Zoo, and a bison from the Buffalo Zoo (I would have gotten a bison from the L.A. Zoo, but theirs was twice as expensive). Once I get the adoption materials back from the zoos, copies will go to the honored cast and crew members through their agents."

Love's Labors Lost

"LETTERS, ALL TV gets letters, and the mailbag has gotten so filled with letters relating to the cancellation of the quirky Fox drama "Wonderfalls" that it begs the question: Was the tiny "Wonderfalls" audience made up entirely of Star-Ledger readers? [No.]"

TV Guide Denies WB Rumor - FALSE!

"TV Guide Online rebutted reports that The WB was considering picking up Fox's canceled fantasy series Wonderfalls for the fall season. "It's not true," a network source told the site."

That's great! It's good to see how appreciated by critics the show continues to be.

A little DVD news from savewonderfalls.com:

Quote:

We have a bit of Wonderfalls DVD news for you! The release is still (tentatively) scheduled for December 7 of this year, and the episodes will be presented in 16x9 widescreen. Bryan Fuller and Todd Holland have already recorded commentary on "Crime Dog," "Lovesick Ass" and "Caged Bird." They'll be joined by stars Caroline Dhavernas and Katie Finneran for "Wax Lion" and "Safety Canary" commentary, and by Caroline, Katie and Scotch Ellis Loring (Dr. Ron) for "Cocktail Bunny" commentary. The disc set will also contain a documentary on the show and most likely a few deleted scenes and outtakes. Other features are TBA.
