So I decided to try to re-do my post that FF ate the other day. Warning: long, rambling post ahead.

The other day I was playing hooky from work and while at home, I watched some S9 episodes, including the series finale. (I don’t care what the haters say, I loved every single thing about the finale. Except, you know, the fact that it was theseries finale.

It’s going to be SO WEIRD to not have new OTH on my tv this fall…. Anyway, I digress.) I was left with some thinky thoughts.

My all-time OTP is Buffy/Angel. Full stop. It was the first couple I fell in love with and rooted for through everything. I didn’t think I’d ever have another pairing that I love as much as B/A. Then OTH started and I fell for Nathan/Haley. Although B/A is my OTP to end all OTPs, Naley are a close, CLOSE second. As much as I love B/A, I find that Naley is the… most rewarding relationship, for me as a fan.

B/A is all angst. Mortal enemies, blah blah blah. They’re still very much the “bad boy changes for the love of a good woman” archetype but as a fan, they’re very depressing. They each have other relationships. They don’t end up together. (Although, in my mind they are definitely together and having lots and lots of sex after Angel sanshued. I don’t count the comics as canon, for what it’s worth.) They are very typical of a lot of relationships of television nowadays. A couple may be True Love, but they have all kinds of obstacles like other relationships, break ups and reunions, etc. And then oftentimes, a fan only gets to enjoy them for a short time together before the series ends.

I’ve realized how lucky we are as Naley fans. It’s like B/A and so many other relationships in that it is the very definition of “bad boy, good woman” archetype. However, from the very beginning of their relationship, it was all very clear (at least to me) that Naley were always end game. Period. No matter the obstacles, such as the tour, third-parties, Nate’s injury, etc., I never doubted that they would end the show together. Even when I wanted to throw something at the tv because Mark insisted on yet another stupid third-party storyline, I never truly worried that they would be over. They’re Nathan and Haley. They’re Always and Forever.

The show had ups and downs of Brucas, Leyton, Brulian, Keith/Karen and all the other relationships. I honestly think that no matter how much Mark may have said that Leyton was always end game and “meant to be,” I wouldn’t have been surprised if it had been Brucas at the beginning of S6. With those pairings, there was always a “could have been.” With Naley, they were always it for each other. No back-ups, no “could have beens.” Just the knowledge that no matter what, no matter the obstacles, they. Were. It.

That’s extremely rare nowadays, to have a couple so clearly Meant To Be, True Love, etc., and somehow during the entire series, they stay together. Most of the time, shows like to screw with their pairings, have break ups and reunions, other relationships, etc. with the “together forever” payoff only towards the end. Not Nathan and Haley. Yes, there were difficulties and separations, but at no point was there a question for me that they weren’t together and wouldn’t be together forever.

For as much crap as Naley fans give Mark (and some of it deserved just for the mind-numbing tedium of certain storylines), we also owe him gratitude for giving us the most stable, rewarding relationship of not only OTH but for so much of television.

Naley are in a league of their own. An epic couple with an epic love story

They're each other's first and only loves, have been together and only with each other from start to finish...there could never be anyone else for them let alone look at anyone else. That's so rare and is what makes our Naley even more unique

Their love is eternal. They're each other's heart and soul. No other couple could ever come close to Naley. Any obstacle they faced, they faced together, and came out stronger in the end. Their love story is classic and timeless

Great post even I don't think that I can compare NH to others since each couples have their own story to tell, but I don't think that any couple could be top than NH do to me since I truly love them and I don't think that I won't forget about them, but NH went through so much things, but yet, they still stand by to side to side to show that they love each other and there are no need to question on their love.. I love that about them..
