It shows that he has more respect for Nathan by talking to him rather than avoiding the situation and Nathan will have more respect for him in return.

Skills and Deb were at different places in their lives so it never would have worked out in the end anyway. It was the best thing for them both and for Nathan.

And I'm sure that both NH wouldn't feel right to support them even when it comes to Haley, she knows that they aren't going to last while Nathan refused to accept the fact they are together seriously..
