James Lafferty was born and raised in Hemet, California. James attended Hemet High School and played basketball for the Bulldogs, even earning the MVP award. He has been steadily working since the age of 6 when his mother encouraged him and his brother, Stuart Lafferty, to act as a hobby. At age ten, he received his first speaking part and, then later, a role on the short lived television series "Emeril" (2001) as Emeril Lagasse's son. James also made guest appearances as "Once and Again" (1999) (as Tad) and "Boston Public" (2000). He also had a role in the ESPN movie A Season on the Brink (2002) (TV), a basketball movie about the Indiana Hoosiers, where he was able to demonstrate his basketball skills. He graduated in 2003 from Hemet High and was enrolled at Cal State Long Beach before he received the role of "Nathan" on the WB Network's new series "One Tree Hill" (2003), filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. Once in University, James plans on majoring in international studies.

Ode to J. La

The J.La board is celebrating a momentous event,
We’re in awe of J.La, he must be heaven sent.
We’ve reached a 100,000 posts and we’re feeling all right,
So we’ll celebrate all through the day and all through the night.

We could list his attributes from A to Z,
But that would take awhile so we’ll just list these three:
He’s undeniably gorgeous which is clear to see.
His washboard abs and baby blues fill us with inner glee.

That rock hard chest, those soulful eyes,
No wonder he’s our favourite OTH guy.
When La-fuzzy graces his jaw,
We’re in a constant state of awe.

We love to see the fuzz on his face,
We wish he’d keep it and it would never be erased.
Long, short, buzz cut we don’t care,
We love the way he wears his hair.

We’d like to run our fingers through it.
Oh come on now, you know that you want to do it!
His biceps and booty should be a national treasure,
Just looking at them fills us with constant pleasure.

We love to swoon over his perfect arms.
They’re one of his many endless charms.
We dream of being wrapped in them, held close to his heart,
Knowing that he’d never leave us, that we’d never part.

His lips are perfect and oh so kissable,
When we don’t see them they’re oh so missable.
To feel his lips on ours is a constant dream.
Though if it were to happen there’s no doubt that we’d scream.

The next quality that we’d like to celebrate,
Is his acting talent, he’s undoubtedly great!
His scenes make us laugh, his scenes make us cry,
His scenes make us swoon, and swear, and sigh.

He’s grown so much over the past six years.
He’s learned how to cry and overcome his fears.
His chemistry with B. Joy blazes up our screens.
Nathan and Haley’s relationship shows us what love really means.

His scenes with Jackson are also works of art.
They remind us that Nathan’s family is his heart.
He makes a great tv dad, He’s Jamie’s super hero,
Jamie reminds Nathan that he’s no zero.

We also love his scenes with Chad,
The Scott bros unity makes us glad.
Whenever he’s with Paul, he brings us close to tears,
Dan’s abuse of Nathan is one of our worst fears.

In his scenes with Barb, his comedic chops shine,
They range from the ridiculous to the sublime.
We’re also highly amused in his scenes with Brett,
Nathan and Tim’s friendship is one we won’t forget.

When he’s paired with Antwon he brings in the funny,
We’re still laughing at the two of them stripping for money.
Yes, James is definitely a talented star,
We know in the future he’ll go very far.

Yet, in spite of his fame, he’s still so sweet and shy as can be,
So now we’ll extol his humility.
He never tries to draw attention to himself,
Instead he praises everyone else.

He can’t say enough good things about the cast.
He enjoys the present and looks fondly at the past.
He’s honest, kind, and always true.
He makes his fans feel appreciated too.

His humility and grace extends to helping those in need.
He has yearly charity games that go by with such speed.
Fans anxiously await these yearly games,
They give them a chance to meet our beloved James.

Even though he knows he’s adored, it always comes as a surprise to him.
He’s so appreciative of his fans, he’s made of epic win.
He’s such an amazing person inside and out,
OTH would not be the same without him, of that we have no doubt.

He’s still in shock at his rise to fame,
And through it all he remains the same.
All the attention makes him uncomfortable, yet he bears it with ease.
He makes being famous look like such a breeze.


He’s always lovely and wonderful in his interviews.
He likes to give his fans great OTH news.
Our devotion to James has connected us in ties that cannot be broken,
We love each other more than words can ever be spoken.

So please join us now as we celebrate,
Our love for baby James who is unquestionably great.
So lift up your glass and cheers to you.

Why James?

One of the reasons why I love James is because he is so humble, which I think is rare to find in Hollywood. He doesn’t always get recognized for his work, but his performances continue to grow. James has a great grasp on the character of Nathan Scott, and I feel fortunate to have had him play this role on my screen for the last six years. He has made me laugh, cry, smile, worry, and has made me love his character and the couple Nathan and Haley. I will truly miss seeing James on my screen every week once One Tree Hill ends, but I hope he continues to play more roles because I love watching him perform and seeing him grow as an actor.

Why James' board?

The James Lafferty board is my favorite place to visit on Fan Forum because I love coming over here knowing that we all share the common ground in that we are James Lafferty fans. It is so nice to start off on that mutual ground, surrounded by posters who also adore James. I genuinely look forward to visiting this board each and everyday, and I feel that this board is my safe haven. The group of posters on this board are really fun and have a positive energy that can boost my spirit up. We have fun and appreciate James at the same time, which makes for an awesome atmosphere!
