Alatriste (2006)

I hope no one minds me starting this. I just thought that since the movie begins shooting March 7th we needed a thread to keep up with all the news. I'm not sure of a release year so 2006 could be 2005.

Let's begin with some good news, a good article from VARIETY.COM

Spain's 'Alatriste' sets sail with Fox, U
Pic to start shooting March 7

By EMILIANO DE PABLOS

MADRID -- Twentieth Century Fox has taken Spanish and Latin American theatricaltheatrical and DVD/video rights on the most expensive Spanish-lingo film ever made in Spain, the $28 million swashbuckler "Alatriste" (Captain Alatriste), starring Viggo MortensenViggo Mortensen.
In a rare second U.S. studio deal for a Spanish film, Universal Studios Networks Espana has taken an unspecified financial stake in the pic, co-produced by Estudios Picasso, the production arm of broadcaster Telecinco and Antonio Cardenal's Origen.

Written and directed by Agustin Diaz Yanes ("No News From God""No News From God"), pic will start shooting March 7 in Madrid, Cuenca and Andalusia.

TF1 Intl. announced at the Berlin Film Festival that it will sell the film in the rest of the world.

Mortensen plays Diego Alatriste, a Spanish soldier-cum-mercenary embroiled in the country's 16th-century imperial wars.

Cast includes Javier Camara ("Talk to Her""Talk To Her"), Elena Anaya ("Van Helsing"), Unax Ugalde, Ariadna Gil, Antonio Resines and Blanca Portillo.

"Las aventuras del Capitan Alatriste" is a five-novel series written by bestselling Spanish novelist Arturo Perez-Reverte.

Thank you for starting a thread on this. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing Viggo in a new movie. There is just way too long to wait for him to be in a new movie. I need a Viggo fix!

Thanks for starting a thread for Alatriste. And yes, we need a Viggo fix. A new movie.

So, why is Gael not doing the movie again?

Honey, I don't care what it's about....it's gonna have Viggo speaking Spanish for a couple hours non-stop, and that's all I need to know!

Yeah! I was so excited for them to be paired in Alatriste but I guess you can't have it all...

I'm not sure how much of a war movie Alatriste will be but 16th century Spain, whoa, that's a whole lot of fighting.

Hey, Viggo looks good fighting and doing battle. Love to see him handle a gun more often too.

But I agree, I really don't care what type of movie it is....I want to hear him talk Spanish!

Where do you live? Since it's basically an European movie I bet it'll be shown all over Europe. And as far as America goes Fox made a deal for the theatrical and DVD release of this movie.

But VM is famous in lots of places so I'm sure it'll be as broad as possible.

If it comes out of Viggo's mouth, it will sound like poetry.
