I called this mid season 2, when no one really knew anything about his life, because no one ever really asked. Thats where my CoS came from. No one ever asked, no one knows what it was like for him. Now we've gotten a better idea, but we still don't know anything from Jess's perspective. Notice, anytime Rory actully gets angry at Jess, stands up to him and tells him something honest, he's honest too. "Inns and outs of Inns" "Tisket a Tasket" "Lost and Found" "There's the Rub" "Dead Uncles and Vegetables" You know, season 2! Sigh, its just frustrating. Everytime someone calls Jess on his *****... All I really hope for this Rory/Jess scene is that Rory feels something. I really don't think I can deal if Rory is cold and mean, or pittying and condecending. I want some genuane emotion from her. Something from her that lets us know that she cares. That she's been thinking about him too. That what he's saying means...something to her. But I doubt we will. One thing I loved about Jess, was that he was his own man. He was a screwed up man-child, but he was his own. I understand how failing school can shatter that though. Everything that he was, everything that he counted on..himself, was gone. And he's thinking where it went wrong. He's remembering the people who were there for him to count on, the people he didn't utilize. I think everytime he tries to talk to Luke, it ennd in a fight because Jess can't let himself admit to Luke. Jess nailed it on the head when he told Luke last time "You make it so that when people fail you, you get to feel like the martyr and they get to feel like not only did they screw up, but they also disappointed you." He feels like he failed Luke. And Luke feels like he failed Jess, and the two of them together are such pits of misery. They blame each other, they blame themselves. I think the difference between Luke and Rory for Jess, is that he never thought he was that important to Rory. Jess knew that he was important to Luke, otherwise he wouldn't feel like he failed him. I don't think Jess looks at Rory like she's this great, wonderful, pure, holy thing. I think this is just someone that he loved, that he knew cared about him. He, looking back, knows that had he come to her, things might have been different. I think he's just trying to fix it in his own way. Saying and doing the things he should have then, just because...he has to try. Lets face it, when Jess asks Rory to go with him, does he really think she will? Part of him, the eternal optimest that he hates within himself, maybe. Well, hopes. But the reality, he knows she'll say no. He wants her to, but he knows she'll say no. He has to ask, he has to be honest with her. Open, naked...because he owes her. He needs to somehow balence the scales. Its not that he can't be happy without her, its that he needs to make it right before he can move on. He needs to do everything he can. He knows it won't matter. | For gods sake, all Jess needed was for someone to, at any point in the past 3 years to say "whatever it is, regardless of anything, I'm not going anywhere, I'm on your side and we're gonna sit down and figure this out." The boy just needed some support. He needed to know that someone was on his side. Luke was, but Jess didn't always see that. Jess needed to be shown the Luke that stood up for him. That stopped speaking to Lorelai because of him, that payed Taylor the letus losses... But all anyone gave Jess was tough love. 'Bad" kids don't always need that. They, more then anything, need someone on their side. But did anyone bother...nooooo. Ok, I'll stop now. (I was watching the scene when Jess told Luke that he failed. It's evident in his conversation with Luke in the rowboat when Luke tells Jess that Rory chose him, not Dean. I think he had trouble believing that he deserved Rory. | Good points, guys. I also don't want to see Jess cry. I want some kind of feeling, reaction on Rory's part. But I'm not holding my breath. She didn't really react at all when he left, I honestly don't expect her to react any differently now that a year has gone by... it's too late... [img]smilies/frown.gif[/img] And I agree with you Jewls about Jess waiting for the other shoe to drop. I think that's a product of his upbringing... People around him in the past probably when he disappointed them, or at the first sign of trouble, or when he didn't live up to their expectations; bailed on him/turned their backs on him/pushed him away/shipped him off somewhere... and I think he was convinced, or at least believed that Rory (and Luke) would do the exact same thing... and when Luke sort of proved him 'right', he walked away... | Another thing Jess said which I thought was heartbreaking was in LTGB when R/J kiss for the first time as a couple and when she pulls away saying "I have to go" and he said : "Wha... did I do somethin'?" I think it speaks volumes... that even in that moment, when they no longer had any obstacles (or so he thought) he was insecure... he was sure he had done something to make her want to leave... I've always wondered what Jess would have felt if he had ever found out that Rory went to see Dean after leaving him... albeit to apologize and try to make things right, but I doubt Jess would have understood it that way... | Oh I agree totally. It always comes back to Dean. And Jess is so the anthisis of Dean, that it was so easy to lable "good" and "bad". Jess tried to be good. He did, but after a while... Rory didn't believe him about the black eye. She was so sure that he and Dean had gotten into a fight. Everyone see's that as the beginning of the end-cause Jess didn't tell her the truth. But to me, that is where Rory failed Jess. Jess never really lied to her. (Unless I'm forgetting something) Jess usually owned up to what he did, when confronted anyway. From the start of their relationship, Rory left after she kissed him at the weading. Rory left after the kissed at the gas station. Rory didn't want to kiss Jess in public. Jess went to the grandparents house....he respected what she wanted. And when it came down to it...she couldn't trust him. Right there...thats where it could have been different. I donno, I just feel like that was the moment where Jess felt like he had to be someone different for her. *shrugs* I'm just ranting. Oh, and the look at Jess's face "did I do something wrong?" Breaks my heart everytime. And I sware, if she runs away the first time she and this new guy kiss...I sware to god, I'm going to throw a fit. Rory/Dean-shoplifted and ran Rory/Tristan-cried and ran Rory/Jess-cheated and ran Rory/Jess again-smiled and ran to ex-boyfriend. Rory/Paris-freaked out and ran One more time and I'm gonna give that girl cement shoes. Or tie her down or something!!!! You're getting kissed by hot guys...and girls.
