I don't know, I just think Jess wasn't that guy. He wasn't going to change his ways to get her and he didn't even after they were together. I think if Dean hadn't broke up with Rory, Jess would have just stayed with Shane eventually moved on. I think also Jess is the kinda guy to who would want an equal in a relationship, he knew that everyone wasn't perfect including Rory.

The discussion is rather vague without the comparisons of Rory's other boyfriend. But I agree with this:

There was an interesting arguement once prompting that Logan was just Jess with money. But despite that, and trying not to compare her boyfriends, Jess is just wasn't that guy. He challenged her. He brought out her flawed side. He was like a slap across the face. An eye opener.

Great question Maria! I do feel that he fell at Rory's feet to an extend.

But, they were definitely equals, because Jess challenged Rory and she challenged him.

1. They had a similar passion for culture (literature, arts, etc) and both were very knowledgeable. Therefore, Rory had a strong contender when discussing issues.

2. Rory was somewhat high maintenance. Jess always did his own thing. Miss I have to plan my life, so I make lists versus Mr Spontaneity.
- Because of him, she started to be more impulsive. She kissed him first. She skipped school to see him, because he didn't say good bye.
- She expected him to call beforehand to make plans for the weekend. He expected her to wait at home for him.
- He had to work a bit to get into her good graces again. He bought The Distillers tickets.

3. He gave "romantic passion" finally a meaning. All foreign concepts to her. - She actually thought about sleeping with him.

4. Jess didn't simply give in to whatever Rory wanted. Rory had to compromise. - He went to dinner at the Gilmore's with her in exchange of a book.

5. Jess wasn't a doormat. So she didn't contact him after kissing him during summer. Well, he sort of moved on to Shane. Interestingly enough, Rory became so jealous.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Its a good list Barely. You guys did a good job. Sorry if you feel I limited I just wanted to read about Jess without reading what you feel her other boyfriends don't have and you did a good job with that.

Glad you enjoyed that list Maria!

Each boyfriend is different, so therefore one shouldn't compare them too much. Learn from your experiences - good and bad -, but leave it at that. Ideally that is. Of course, in fandoms we get too attached to a certain someone so we are more inclined to defend our fave with full force... we can get carried away.

It was nice to read what you guys had to say about it, too.

I wonder what the rest of Lit fans think?

The great thing about Gilmore Girls and all of Rory’s relationships was that each pushed her further and made her grow up. Dean made her comfortable to talk to guys, Jess made her comfortable to go after what she wants, and Logan made her comfortable with who she was becoming. Although I clearly have my favorite Rory ship (check out which thread I’m posting on

), each boyfriend was a pretty good catch, on Rory’s part.

The only boyfriend that fell at Rory’s feet was Dean, and I’m really trying not to bash him, so I won’t say anymore. Since this is a Rory/Jess appreciation thread I’m just gonna say that I feel like Jess was her soulmate, even though he still had a lot of growing up to do when she met him. But that’s why I love him coming back in season 6 and showing her he was ready for her.

Yeah Barely, I agree with the shipper war-type stuff, but I feel like shows promote that by making the triangles pretty intense *cough* BL/LP from OTH *cough* Ugh. But we'll try our best not to blatantly put down other people's opinions. At least not here

Very good list Barely very true. I think they both challenged each other, and both grew from the relationship which is what matters I mean Jess got his life together after Rory, and Rory learned that you can't change people and let whatever happens, happen.

Jess always got Rory to face the truth (which was kind of ironic considering he had a hard time being truthful with her.) He of course was very intelligent, though not mature when he and Rory were together. He had a lot of growing up to do, as did Rory. They seemed to like many of the same things and shared a similar attitude (mocking.) They both were raised by single mothers. I do think that their relationship, when they were together, was thick with physical passion, yet their connection was deeper, otherwise Rory wouldn't have cared or been as upset when Jess failed her. Or been as proud of his successes as she was.

In my head, Rory and Jess ended up together. It was the only thing that made perfect sense to me. I just can't see Rory with anyone else really. I was watching "Gilmore Girls" on tv today, and their scenes were filled with such raw emotion.

Mee too. Especially since we got to see how Jess pulled himself together at the end there. They were definitely the perfect couple. I still donlt understand how they didn't end up together.

I agree with you 100%.
That's what made them so interesting as a couple. Jess always challenged her. In the end, he showed her the right path.

I agree! It makes me feel better that she didn't end up with anyone, but I feel, realistically, she'd end up with Jess. They still love each other, and they'd have the opportunity to see each other again (LL wedding).

I know. She'd been hearing about this from others (including Logan), but it was Jess who finally got her to realize what a mistake she had made by dropping out of Yale. i think the fact that she realized hanging around with drunks and not accomplishing anything was a waste of time also helped in her decision to return to Yale. Jess didn't judge Rory, but merely questioned her. He made her think, as he always had in the past.

One of my fondest wishes was the Lorelai found out that it was Jess who got Rory to return to her and school.

I agree! Jess didn't really judge anyone it seems. But Rory, on the other hand, always had some preconceived idea about some people. I wonder why?
