Heroes 4.04 Acceptance Episode Discussion

As Hiro's (Masi Oka) life continues to hang in the balance, he distracts himself with saving the lives of others. Meanwhile, Angela (Cristine Rose) tries to help the new "Nathan" (Adrian Pasdar) remember his past, at the risk of his remembering too much. Elsewhere, Tracy (Ali Larter) is determined to get her old job back, but soon realizes that she needs to make more of an impact. Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Zachary Quinto and Milo Ventimiglia also star. Ashley Crow, Saemi Nakamura and Dawn Olivieri also guest star.

It says and Milo Ventimiglia also starts, and I think in the promo he's talking with Nathan, I think he doesn't have that big of a part but is in it.

I didn't like this episode as much as the previous ones. I especially did not like the Hiro repetitive saving of the office worker. That, and the kind of boring, unnecessary conversation about HRG getting a job got a WTH reaction from me. I had a couple of questions about Peter. Why didn't the compass manifest when he showed his arm to HRG? Why didn't he have Samuel's power, but instead still had the speed one? Now that he has hugged Nathan, will he have all of Sylar's powers? I'm confused. I also did not like that Peter so easily accepted Nathan's new abilities. He didn't seem the least curious or surprised.

I liked this episode a lot, but not as much as previous ones. ( I guess nothing can beat that cello scene, lol ) I missed a few minutes in the end... but love the twist where Nathan gets killed, and his mother doesn't suspect a thing. (Package delivered

He didn't absorb Samuel's power at all. Empathy doesn't simply work by touching someone, you must be wanting that power. Otherwise nothing happens. Besides Peter didn't need to touch Ted in order to get his power, he was just in near proximity. Same with invisibility guy.

Sylar was able to absorb Elle's power because a) he was connected with her and with himself. b) he desired to have her power. Peter was not eager to obtain Samuel's power or Nathan's.

I felt, in this episode, that Peter was pretending to be the usual careing son & brother, rather than actually being one. I mean, he also excused himself dimplomatically for not returning Nathan's calls. Bull, because in the past he would have always found time to call family.

Maybe:
a) Peter is actually aware about what happened to Nathan, just not speaking about it.
b) Peter is pretending to not be too interested in the whole "I'm special" issue when he is with Nathan, since he knows what his brother is capable of doing (locking people up in a facility, etc).

Other observations/comments:
- Samuel is a great character! I'm enjoying him more & more. Funny thing, I doubt that "family" he always speaks of is very loyal to him. They seem to be rather scared or just using him... once they find a way out, they'll most likely take it.
- When Claire suggested to find a job of some sort to her father, it felt nice! Finally, some real life issues besides being "Heroes" 24/7.
- It was also cool to have Nathan resurect to life as Sylar after being shot. Cool plot twist!
- Tracy was alright. I'm missing Micah though! Where is rebel????
- Emily Rose was excellent as always! Loved Millie's and Angela's scene!!! Spectacular!!

ETA: I think that tattoo compass is definitely a tracking device, so the family can find each other! (some other user mentioned an interesting theory about how mobile phones where not allowed in the family, so that The Company wouldn't be able to track them down.)

Okay not going to lie, didn't watch much of the episode, it just didn't pull me in and the Green Bay/ Minnesota game was just too good not to watch! I did however see Peter's part

Very true, I think Peter just doesn't want anything to him, in the past Peter would have been we have to find out what happened, i'll help you, but instead just kind set Nathan off his own. As for the powers I think Peter is just over them in away like oh you have powers whatever, and this Peter seems to be thinking more logically like when he says must run in family, he at one time could have more than one power so why wouldn't Nathan.

The rest of the episode was kind boring, what Heroes has to work on is having an interesting episode every week.

Yah I only watched the Peter parts. I mean I saw the whole episode, but it was kind of boring. Peters parts were the most exciting. Ask for Nylar I have thorys on this one.

1. Peter doesn't know all of Matts powers, he saw Sylar die right in front of him. I think I'd assume his powers evolved too, I mean if you saw Sylar die right in front of you I wouldn't come up with that insane theorys too.

2. Peter just wanting to stay away from any of Nathans crazyness makes sense too LOL.

3. I'd love it if Peter already knew about Nylar and was just keep slient about it till he found out more proofe on it. That'd be cool.

Guess will see what happens as the show unfolds. I'm staying tuned. Ask for the compass, I'm with you guys on that one, maybe Samuel is controlling it.

I have to agree with this. I got a little teary-eyed when Hiro told his sister that he was dying and she was so upset.

Peter couldn't possibly know that Nathan is really Sylar. He would not act that nonchalant if he knew or even guessed. I think it is just the writers being lazy.

I haven’t seen the episode yet!

I still have to study for midterms, but I should be able to watch it after I finish my last test, so that should be Thursday night/Friday. I’m not reading any of your posts because I don’t wanna be too spoiled!

I managed to watch last night. I think with Nathan, maybe the writers are trying to emphasize the lack of connection Peter has with his family? He acted like...I dunno, like he cared but he didn't really care. Like others said, in the past he would have insisted on helping his brother out, but he didn't then.

I think he should've been more curious about Nathan's sudden change in powers, but I can live with 'it runs in the family' for now. I don't think he knows about Sylar though, it wouldn't have gone by un-noticed.

Other than that, his small scene with HRG/Claire was nice but kind of...I dunno, I wasn't quite sure why he was there if after 2 minutes he agreed with Noah that he shouldn't have gone

But the "That's a nice arm" line from HRG was brilliant. I hope Peter has more scenes with him.

As for non-Peter parts, aside from Hiro's story being kinda repetative/boring, apart from the scene with Kimiko, I enjoyed this episode again. I think this is shaping up to be a pretty good season

Finally saw the episode. I'm glad I didn't kill myself trying to watch it because it was a filler episode. No storylines really progressed except Nylar. To summarize this episode in one sentence - Hiro is still dying, HRG is looking kind of pathetic, even to his 18 year old daughter, Tracey's decided she's better than being a slut, and Angela Petrelli is still a manipulator.

I don't really think Peter was uninterested, but he was kind of like "Oh new power. That's really cool! Well, see you later. I have a life." I thought it was a bit out of character for him to not try to go with Nathan, but it probably stems from his general Petrelli mistrust. I really doubt he knows about Nylar. I feel like he would've wanted to do something to stop it.

Yeah, Ellie I agree, there was really no point in the HRG/Claire/Peter scene except to try to keep long-term fans interested.

I though HRG was really funny though when he said "If they won't buy from me, I can shoot them!"

I still feel bad for him. Life is rough.

As far as the rest of the episode... not much to say.

I agree, especially since the office worker bit seemed to be all about the butt copying

Although, the end scene with his sister was well done.

Samuel controlled the tattoo and it's been shown that they don't last very long, so I figured that's why it disappeared. Although I have to wonder why he didn't notice it was gone before he went to see HRG.

They've been showing that Peter can consciously control what powers he takes and I'm sure he didn't realize "William Hooper" aka Samuel had a power.

I'm right there with you on that. I didn't like the scene at all. Peter deliberately avoided Nathan's call and to have him just say "Sorry, I've been busy" and go in for the hug, just didn't fly with me. Yes, I know the hug is a Petrelli thing, but at this point where he's avoiding his family and isolating himself, it would make more sense that he avoid Nathan. I expected Peter to be more distant in these scenes. Having seen the hug in promos, I had hoped it was a case of Nathan hugging Peter and Peter not returning it and being more cold toward Nathan. Then as for the new powers, he's all it must run in the family? What? They've shown that he knows that Nathan can only fly (see Five Years Gone).
