*waves* My first post to the Johnny Depp section of Fanforum! Gah, I'm such a shameful newbie, I didn't even know this place had special sections for actors and actresses *facepalm*

I thought the Sweeney Todd thread would be a good place to start since I'm currently in love with this movie so much! I'd put off seeing it because I'm a bit of a wet rag when it comes to violence, and someone I knew had told me it was terrifying and gruesome. Well, bah! I did finally watch it and I was fine! It was tense, yes, but I have to admit that it wasn't the throat slittings that freaked me, it was the teapot beating and the bodies crunching to the floor during the Johanna Reprise

Anyway! I'm rambling away here, but I saw the soundtrack being mentioned and just wanted to say that I've been going about for days singing it since I bought the DVD. I absolutely adore the music, it's got to be one of the best musicals in the world!

My favourite songs would have to be.... 'A Little Priest', 'Worst Pies In London', 'Epiphany' and 'Johanna Reprise'. Although I love 'Pretty Women' and 'By The Sea'. And 'My Friends'.

... okay that's practically every song, never mind, apparently I fail at narrowing things down

My favourite sequence during a musical number has to be during 'Worst Pies In London', (although again, I pretty much love what the actors are doing throughout all the songs!) where Mrs Lovett is battering the dough for the pies singing about how awful they are, and Sweeney's busy wishing he hadn't taken a bite of it. And then wishing he hadn't drank the ale, either!

Johnny Depp just has such incredibly funny subtle physical comedy moments during the whole song, which I always liked in contrast to the brooding state he's in for most of the film. Oh and in "By The Sea" too, where he just looks really unhappy and a little freaked out by Mrs Lovett cuddling up and winking at him! And when they 'get married' and he just sort of nods quickly as his 'I do'. Hehehee!

Just reading all the threads on this board has made me want to watch all the remaining films of Johnny's that I've yet to see, and make as many friends and family as possible watch Sweeney Todd, hehe!

I was listening to the soundtrack again today, and the songs get even better on repeat, when you really hear all the layers to them and the wonderful lyrics. Johnny and all the other actors just bring such emotion and character to those songs, and their voices and the way they sing them fit the characters so well! *gush* xD

Ah, Sweeney Todd would be one of my favorite JD films! It has so many great people involved in making it; Tim Burton, Helena Bonham Carter (LOVE HER), Alan Rickman, etc.

I'd also have to say that I prefer it to the broadway production. The film isn't quite as operatic in sound as the stage version, and I also like Johnny's voice more than George Hearn's. Don't get me wrong, George has a great sound, but Johnny's tone was absolutely perfect for Sweeney's character!

Not to mention that the soundtrack continually gets stuck in my head! XD

Also, the benefit with the movie is that, you have more chances (takes) to make a scene perfect. Where as live, if you fumble it, that's it you know.

Well I think part of the point is that it's supposed to be gory, but even then I think we got a tamed version of gore.

For the most part the blood made it seem more gruesome.
