{Bat Country} Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas #1: Too weird to live, too rare to die

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas #1

(By: FunSizeKristy)

P L O T:

The big-screen version of Hunter S. Thompson's seminal psychedelic classic about
his road trip across Western America as he and his large Samoan lawyer searched
desperately for the "American dream"... they were helped in large part by the
huge amount of drugs and alcohol kept in their convertible, The Red Shark.
Written by Laurence Mixson

Raoul duke is a drug addled gonzo journalist. he is sent to cover a motorcycle
race as an article for his magazine, but then the situation escalates into him and
his psychotic attorney searching for the American dream, aided by almost every
drug known to man in the boot of his red convertible. Written by palmtreehead

An adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's novel of the same name. The film details
a whacky search for the "American Dream", by Thompson and his crazed,
Samoan lawyer. Fueled by the massive amount of drugs they purchased with an
advance from a magazine to cover a sporting event in Vegas; they set out in the
Red Shark. Encountering police, reporters, gamblers, racers, and hitchhikers; they
search for some undefinable thing know only as the "American Dream" and find
fear, loathing and hilarious adventures into the dementia of the modern American
West.

I love this movie. So much.

I think that the funniest part is when the were going to park and the guy wants them to take a parking pass and Johnny's character says "I had never been so terrified in my entire life." I laughed so hard at that part!

I love when he's in the bar and he says

"I was right in the middle of a f//king reptile zoo, and somebody was giving booze to these goddamn things. Won't be long now before they tear us to shreds. "

So, Avenged Sevenfold has a song and music video about the movie/book

I love this movie! It's so funny and out there, and Johnny was fantastic!

I loved that Christina Ricci had a cameo in the movie as well!

I think the movie was effin cool! For anyone that didn't like it you need to watch it a few more times (or while high ) to really appreciate it. Because the whole movie is so damn quotable. So many hilarious lines or visual gags.

"Don't **** with me now, i am Ahab."

"With a bit of luck his life was ruined forever."

"Look, there's two women ****ing a polar bear!"

"Know your dope fiend. You will not be able to see his eyes because of tea shades, but his knuckles will be white from inner tension and his pants will be crusted with semen from constantly jacking off when he can't find a rape victim."

"Bazooko Circus is what the whole world would be doing Saturday night if the Nazis had won the war. This was the Sixth Reich."

"Clean your shorts goddammit!! Clean your shorts like a big boy."

"Castration! Double Castration!"

"You people voted for Hubert Humphrey and you killed Jesus!

"Back door beauty? The question mark was EMPHASIZED."

Oh and not to forget, enough can't be said about JD's stellar performance. This is what makes him such a great actor, he completely immerses himself in the role until you don't see Johnny Depp anymore he IS Raoul a bald, middle aged, hard drinking, crazy drug addled gonzo journalist. He's played so many great characters I can't decide what my fave role of his is, but this is probably my favorite Johnny movie to date that I can watch so many times and never get bored of it. Not that I could ever got bored of Johnny Depp. Period.

Well, I don't know. I've watched it three times now and I still don't get. This is probably the weirdest movie I've evey seen. It's completely insane It's all over the place and I just can't figure out what it is really about...

I have to say though; if you're not convinced that Johnny Depp could play anything you would be after this movie. I haven't read the book, but I agree, he's only Raoul in this movie

Well if you're looking for a typical plot that goes from point A to point B to point C this is not that kind of movie. I think the objective was to let you into their crazy mind and see what the world looks like while on halluconogenic drugs without having to experience it first hand. Just enjoy the trip.

And I dunno I thought the dialogue in the movie was really funny in a absurd twisted humor sort of way. That's the very best kind IMO. But I'm easily amused so...

I agree though the movie was completely insane and all over the place so I can see why some would be like WTF? While others would think hey this looks like fun, I want whatever stuff their taking. I actually saw a comment on youtube where they said, "this movie makes me want to pump myself full of drugs."

Need I say more?

See? You get it. No offense to those who don't.

And I liked the music too. I still want to know what the name and artist of the first song that played in the tub scene was. Not White Rabbit, the one before that. Sounded a little like Jimi Hendrix. I don't know whatever the song was it was pretty freaking cool.
