Episode 4.19 Discussion: "Ashes of Dreams You Let Die"

LUCAS TELLS HIS MOM ABOUT KEITH’S MURDERER — Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) grow closer in spite of the recent scandal. Brooke (Sophia Bush) wonders if a spark might be rekindled with Chase (guest star Stephen Colletti, “Laguna Beach”). Peyton (Hilarie Burton) receives a tempting offer that would ultimately take her away from Tree Hill. Mouth (Lee Norris) reconnects with Gigi (guest star Kelsey Chow), while Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) tells Karen (Moira Kelly) that Dan (Paul Johansson) is a murderer, setting off an explosive series of events. Barbara Alyn Woods and Danneel Harris also star. Michael Lange directed the episode written by John A. Norris.

TV Guide Description:

Karen worries when Lucas persists in pursuing theories about Keith's murder, so Dan suggests they get him some professional help. Meanwhile, Peyton considers doing a music internship in L.A.; Haley runs into roadblocks with her valedictorian speech; and Brooke tries reconnecting with Chase through yearbook signatures.

I'm reading comments on the episode and it looks like it was good and Chad owned it, so I thought it could be nice to have the discussion thread as usual :)

I think it was an okay episode. Chad was really good but kinda freaked me out a little bit on some of his scenes. :goof: But overall it was good.

I just finished watching. Um, yeah, Lucas' stuff was intense. Wow. I need to get some sleep, and hopefully I can come up with some more coherent thoughts on the episode in the morning. But yeah, I'd say Chad did a fantastic job in this episode. I really felt how consumed he was by Abby's revelation.

Can't wait to see the episode!

I posted this on Chad's thread over the OTH board and I'm bringing it over :)

another great episode. I really liked it, as the previous one. of course what got me more interested was Lucas and what's happening to him. I gotta start from the end: the last scene was so great, so amazingly portrayed by Chad. he is so much talented! I so felt for Lucas. he was so broken, so desperate, so sad throughout the episode. I'm sad Karen didn't believe him, even though I can understand where she came from. but still I think she could have talked with him in another way and tried to understand better what he is going through and what's happening to him. she earned some points back after Dan said Lucas is crazy and she looked at him in that way and said "he's my son, he's not crazy" something like that.

Lucas/Dan were great to see. I've always loved to see them interact. sure now it's all about drama, but it's still great to see how much Dan can affect Lucas. when he didn't apologize I felt so proud of him. no matter what, he is sticking to what he knows and what he has to do

Lucas/Karen the moment when she told him she and Dan think he needs help and Lucas told her about the dream and Abby was heartbreaking. He was so broken when he realized she was not believieing him. you could see tears in his eyes and to see him cry made me almost cry too.

Lucas&Peyton I love these 2. they know each other better than anybody else. I'm glad Peyton didn't feel insecure because Lucas didn't ask her to stay. She knows he loves her. She doesn't need him to prove it every day, like Brooke did. It was so annoying for me to see Lucas always tries to prove things to Brooke. He didn't deserve that. I'm very glad Peyton is different. she noticed something is happening to him. she has been the only one who noticed and this speaks about their bond. Lucas telling her she has to go just shows once again how selfless he is. he wants Peyton reach what she deserves and he wants her happy and he is willing to let her go for a while if that's what is needed

Lucas/Haley these 2 are always adorable, but the fact she asked him to take the blame for the points shaving is still there for me. I would like them to talk about it, sooner or later. I want Haley to apologize for asking

the gun and the last scene: it feels weird to see Lucas with a gun and to see him try to shoot Dan. We don't know yet if he missed or didn't even poit right at him but just wanted to scare him. but things don't change much to me. I can see where he comes from. He is desperate. Dan is getting closer and closer to his mother. Lucas knows what Dan did, what Dan is and wants to protect Karen. He searched for help from the cops but wasn't believed. He feels like he has no choice, no way out. He is still a teenager and he is the only person Karen has. there's nobody that can help him with this. he would do anything to protect his mother so here comes the gun. I really liked this scene. to see Lucas so protective, to see him yell at Dan to stay far from Karen was heartbreaking. Chad did an amazing job. awesome job. you can totally feel Lucas emotions in that moment.

about the rest of the episode, I didn't care much about anything. I was focused on Lucas so I just wanted the rest to go away.

just one comment about Brooke said on being Lucas' girlfriend. sorry for her fans, but can she please shut up her mouth and think about her own faults in their story instead of always blame Lucas for anything?

last comment for Chad: he's a great actor, he's born for this job. He can make you feel what his character is feeling better than anybody else on this show. he can steal your heart with just his eyes. everything Lucas is there, in Chad's eyes. he did an amazing job once again. and even though it's not a surprise because he already stepped up in the past, it feels good to see him get some good material that can give him the chance to use his immense talent.

I think Chad was good on most parts. He played them really well, but other's he was kinda weird :look:

Dan really played the innorcent psycho really really well  I loved that. It made him even more scary. And Lucas's face when Dan showed up at the police station was awesome.

I think Chad with a gun was great, it was like he had bottled up all this hatred and was just letting it out. Of course the part where he was yelling 'shes my mom' i still think was kinda.... i'll just say 'stupid' :D

And i love how Haley said how it was her right as the best friend and Lucas said 'well you are my best friend' or something like that

I absolutely loved this episode, and it really gave Chad a chance to show what he is capable of!!

The emotions Lucas showed were beyond great. The way he spoke, his face expressions, everything was just outstanding in my opnion!

Dan/Lucas: I love the chemistry these two have on screen! Once again Dan is an ass, but he played his part very well! The last scene where Lucas confronts Dan with the gun, you could just see the fear in Dan's face, and the madness in Lucas'!

Lucas/Karen: I wish Karen would have a little more faith in her son, and not just believe everything Dan says.. She has to remember the kind of man Dan really is, even though all she wants to do is think the best og him these days, which is understandable as he has dissapointed her numerous times!
The love he has for her is just undescribable, and Chad is so good at showing it!

Lucas/Peyton: I would like to know why Lucas decided not to share this with Peyton, as he had no problem sharing it with the police  Even though I'm a Brucas fan, I would have liked to see a little more intensity within their relationship! A few more scenes!

I also have to mention what an awesome job Mouth did getting Jimmy regonized.. Those scenes with Mouth and Mrs. Edwards were priceless..

Talk about a cliff hanger :look: I feel sorry for Lucas, nobody believing his story, being all alone trying to handle the situation! I really hope the shot tht was made does not hit Dan, as that would have serious consequences :(

I really have to applaud Chad with this episode! When an actor can bring tears to your eyes and make you cry then the realness and emotions can't get any better! Amazing job! :)

DP, but didnt want this reply to be in my original post ;)

I agree with Jules here:
What Brooke said was in no way mean, cause she spoke the truth. Lucas does tend to go into a shell, and he even admitted it to Peyton when she asked where he had been.. She was trying to help Peyton, giving her advice..
This has nothing to do with Brooke's faults, where is this coming from?

yeah thats what I thought too.I think all she was saying is lucas tends to keep things to himself thats what is in his character to do.she wasnt being malicious or nasty she was actually trying to help peyton out as I guess peyton was feeling bad that lucas hadnt contacted her if anything brooke was being a good friend she did nothing wrong

yeah, it's Marie :)

That's just who Lucas is. When he has a problem he kinda dissapears and keeps to himself..

I agree.. Brooke was trying to comfort Peyton with what she had also experienced with Lucas.

well nice to meet you .im jules or julie whichever you prefer:)

yeah I know he deals with things himself thats just the way he is.But also when brucas were together he totally opened up with the whole keith thing she was the one who pulled him through from that dark place he was in when keith died so though its never been really mention the way I see it brooke did save lucas she saved him from what was a really bad time in his life and pulled him through

yeah brooke was just being a friend, she never done anything wrong.Peyton wondered why lucas hadnt been in contact so brooke was just telling her the truth in order for peyton not to feel hurt.Brooke is such a good friend peyton is lucky to have her
