Thank You For Smoking #2 - Because he's our very own golden boy!

Because of everything that's happened, this thread was lost, so I've created a 2nd one.

Funnily enough, there's been a lot of news with TYFS during the FF upgrade, so I'll find it when I finish getting the board up to date, and post it.

Also TYFS is now a wide release all through the US now, and there are a set of international dates released as well (which I'll post very soon).

Some reviews, I guess:

Quote:
Adam Brody in Thank You For Smoking

Good performances abound in the movie adaptation of Christopher Buckley's satire of lobbyists, but in a small role, Adam Brody practically steals the film as Rob Lowe's fast-talking personal assistant who leads Aaron Eckhart's smoking lobbyist on a quick tour of Lowe's Tinseltown offices (and Lowe is no slouch in his brief appearance). Riffing on LaLa Land culture and barking instructions to the zen gardener, Brody indicates that he has a better chance of breaking out of the O.C. pack than his better-known co-stars Benjamin McKenzie and Mischa Barton. ~ Credit

...and, best of all, Adam Brody, whose turn as the assistant to a Hollywood superagent is a pitch-perfect blend of superficial charm, corporate condescension and unembarrassed money-worship. ~ Credit
Quote:
Watch especially for a hilariously loose-limbed Adam Brody as a synthetic Tinseltown flunky and William H. Macy as a grandstanding anti-tobacco U.S. senator, doing a pitch-perfect caricature of a whiny, ineffectual liberal. ~ Credit
A bunch more but I'm too lazy.

Thanks for that Jess, can't wait to see it in August. I'm glad the movie's doing well and that Adam is getting good reviews on his performance in the movie.

It's great that the film is doing so well. I'm so happy that the UK doesn't have to wait too long until it gets here.

So lucky you don't have to wait long. I really hope TYFS comes out sooner then August here. Highly doubt it.

Pretty good review from Adam, heh :

'Smoking' filled with gems
By Bruce R. Miller Journal staff writer

If you believe in the "no small parts" theory, take a look at "Thank You For Smoking." It's filled with a handful of performance gems.

Rob Lowe, Adam Brody, Sam Elliott, J.K. Simmons, Maria Bello all shine. Heck, Brody (Seth on "The O.C.") is practically Oscar-worthy as a Hollywood agent's assistant. Leading a tour through a zen-like building, he immediately captures the nonsense and sensibility of the industry.
Others -- in politics and business -- clarify their worlds, too, making this satire fun for just about everyone.

Aaron Eckhart stars as spokesman for the tobacco industry. He's constantly trying to defend an indefensible business, despite mounting evidence against him. When he comes up with the idea of putting smoking back in films, he's sent to Hollywood to meet the man (Lowe) who can make it happen. Eckhart's Nick Naylor takes his impressionable son (Cameron Bright) along for the ride and teaches him plenty about the art of debate.

Director Jason Reitman has found the story's irony (it's based on a book by Christopher Buckley) and isn't afraid to point it out. When Naylor visits a former Marlboro Man (who's battling lung cancer), "Smoking" finds its comic center.

Naylor knows he's not on the side of the gods, but he also knows you don't have to be right to win an argument. He meets regularly with other lobbyists (one represents alcohol, the other, firearms) who consider themselves the MOD Squad -- "merchants of death."

When a young reporter (Katie Holmes) decides to do a story on him, Naylor moves in for the kill and discovers he's the prey.

"Thank You for Smoking" uses plenty of visual techniques to tell the story, never leaving its audience in the dark.

It doesn't come to any grand conclusion, just a general feeling that "spin" isn't limited to a washing machine.

Eckhart does a great job in a role that's nicer than the ones he's usually given; Elliott makes the Marlboro Man human.

But it's Brody in that five-minute bit that makes "Smoking" worthwhile. He sweeps in, delivers plenty of information and leaves you wanting more. Talk about addictive.

The film isn't as cutting as "Wag the Dog" but it should give Washington insiders reason to pause. Consider it the cinematic pause that refreshes.

Rated R, "Thank You For Smoking" features profanity, violence and adult situations.

On a scale of four stars, "Thank You For Smoking" gets:

3 stars

Aw, you should buy it Nese! Mainly because I'm a big offender at doing that.

I'm glad he's got such positive reviews from the movie. It's been great. See Adam shouldn't of been worried (via production notes )

If you don't know how then don't worry. Plus you'd get into heaps of trouble if you did that.
