I know it can seem easy to dislike or get upset with the Lauren character because of her current attitude/behavior, but I'm sure there are nice things about her we can say. She was sweet in earlier seasons. I've enjoyed her interactions in the past with Amy, Maxine etc.

I like Lauren. She's not gold like Rebecca but she's pretty good for a teen. It always seems to me when a kid has a disadvantage in any way (disorder, impairment) -they usually have a better outlook on life, they value it differently than most kids. Most kids have NO appreciation for what they have but I think Lauren is not that way. She does value her family. I think she expresses pretty typical and on the lower end of rude teenage behavior. I'm not condoning her being rude but her behavior is not as bad as the norm. Part is her age and part is bad parenting on Amy's behalf, whether inadvertently (not being around because of work and letting Lauren 'get over' because of guilt) or Amy's bad examples (c'mon, i've seen Amy be rude to Maxine plenty of times). No one's perfect but I think Amy tries hard as a parent and I think Lauren's a good kid all in all. Well that's JMHO.

Perhaps I phrased that wrong. I meant that I feel that she was sweeter in earlier seasons. Of course she was younger and a lot of children do seem 'sweeter' when they are very young. That's not to say that they aren't sweet when they get older. I feel that Lauren has perhaps built up a wall and for some reason is trying to appear tough so she'll fit in in school. I could be wrong. The way she yells at Amy though bothers me. It's true though what you mentioned about some of the ways that Amy has acted to Maxine mimick how Lauren treats Amy. I guess it's silly to expect Lauren to stay little and sweet forever. I'm hoping for a major breakthrough to happen between Lauren and Amy. I have a feeling that if that happens then the true Lauren will once again shine through.

Anyone else think the nickname that Amy calls Lauren is cute? I do. I've never heard anyone else ever called Noodle. It's sweet.

I like the way they write her character. To me it seems more real life. How many teens do you know that are nice and sweet all the time? I think most shows don't show the real personalities teens adapt during these years, and that's why when we watch we think she is annoying (or whatever word you would like to use). I love that JA takes on things other shows don't.

I get that they wanted Lauren to be slightly different but why make her unlikable and nasty? On Gilmore Girls, Rory grew and became less perfect yet she was still a likable person.

I thought Lauren was just being a normal teen when she was going through all her vegetarian phases and stuff. Sure, she was rude to Amy at times - everyone is. Nobody's perfect. She's real. I don't think she's as horrible as everyone makes her out to be. I just read a post on the tvtomes message board and someone actually wrote that they were thrilled to see JA finally cancelled b/c of the "grotesque misuse of that little girl." (Something like that...I'm paraphrasing.) I'm assuming they were talking about Karle Warren, but who knows. Was anyone else aware that there is actually a group out there that is for ppl that hate Karle Warren? I think that is absolutely horrible. She's a child! How can you hate a child?! Anyways, I'll go now b4 I blow a hole of fire through my computer.

P.S. I'm glad to see Ru is still alive I saw her post earlier this discussion.

I think that's a shame if there's a group that hates Karle Warren. I didn't know there was such a group. I agree that people shouldn't hate children. Karle was only playing the part she was asked to play. She can't be blamed for the behavior of the character. You're right that no one is perfect and Lauren was acting out. Teens do act up and test limits. I'm not saying her behavior is to be condoned, but teens don't always act rationally.

Karle Warren is an awesome young actress! She was great as Lauren! She did very well in this dramatic role!
