I was there, in NYC in October for a concert and a show on Broadway, and one of my best friends lives in Great Neck, Long Island, so I was there in January. I hope to be back soon. Do you like living in the NY?

First, because of its history and sense of importance, you get to find things that you wouldn't find in many other places. For example, in a magazine shop at 23rd Street (extremely busy street from, say, 2nd Avenue to 9th Avenue. I used to go to college in that area, on 25th and 23rd with Lexington Avenue), you can find magazines that may not be found at a Wal-Mart (just to give an example), including foreign magazines or magazines that aren't mainstream, well-known mags. The city can be walked on with relative ease (I'm talking just going from A to B, not how you'd feel while walking). The subway is still the best bet to get to places quickly but it's an adventure best for the strong and able (or people who truly depend on it to go to work). Buses are a problem because of traffic. Disadvantages would be an exaggerated sense of itself, harsh summers and winters, the fast pace of people, traffic congestion, crazy differences in wealth and health and too much elitism (more of a Manhattan disease ).I guess it's OK. There may be better things out there but since I haven't lived in other cities I can't make that judgment myself. I can appreciate certain conveniences that are available to me. However, I sense that people just don't take the time to appreciate what they really have. Quote:
Back in high school (long time ago for me), I was part of a school play. Me, a bunch of bright fellow kids, a teacher who I would say is an idealistic activist and a visiting teacher from England, put together a little production, barebones and all. The name was "Jose Can You See?". It was a story about children of immigrants and their parents who were struggling to adapt to the new society. We did like two shows on different school nights, at a community center on 9th Street and 1st Avenue. The thing I remember the most was when a bunch of boys in my group would wrap themselves around with just blankets after the show and then come out to the stage yelling "Toga! Toga!" ![]() We didn't know better then. ![]() Quote:

I love the city, and how you describe it. I have to admit, the subway and I, we are not friends. I ended up telling my friends I'd pay for a cab everywhere cause I was so nervous. I live in a city that doesn't have any really viable public transportation. So I wasn't really sure how to navigate it effectively.

![]() And the subway cars don't have as much graffiti as then. But that's been replaced by what we call scratch-itti. That's when these ne'er-do-wells scratch their "tags" on the car windows using sharp objects. Also, look out for young mothers pushing baby carriages inside cars in and out, as well as old people pushing their shopping wagons, like they feel entitled to. But then, that happens a lot elsewhere. ![]() Oh, and the street musicians. What is it about subways that attract street musicians? ![]()

I love them in NYC, and in Venice, CA. My friends get irritated when we travel cause I want to stop and listen. Do you work far from home?

That usually took me about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on how crowded the trains are. Many times, I was a few minutes late. It was an office job for a city agency. I was laid off in January. So I'm now looking.
