Another interesting thing is that in all the scenes that take place when Will is at work or on duty, the scenes are very blue and dark.

Unfortunately all three images are too dark for me to see any detail at all, but I'm sure there are lots of little things that slipped past the editors. In time we'll probably find them all. It does seem helpful to have the relevant parts circled, though.

This show is great about putting in little details - I do wonder how many of them are intentional and how many are just neat coincidences.

I was watching some of the older episodes and I noticed in "The Fire and the Wood" a girl in a cheerleading uniform walking around in a neck brace - she has also popped up in a couple other episodes, including during the spoon-and-egg race in the finale - it cracks me up to think of the poor girl in a neck brace for the entire school year!

- The kids in the background of scenes are often carrying something strange (like I've seen kids carrying around a huge ceramic ear of corn a couple times) or doing something strange. I like that they use the same extras over and over again so we keep seeing the same kids - makes it feel more realistic.

- I had noticed the picture of the galaxy on the computer before - I guess it goes with the pictures and the globe that Cute Guy God had in his locker in "The Gift."

- The stickers on the kids lockers are very telling: Joan has one that reads "Important Sign Ahead", Grace has one that reads "Go Away", Luke has one that reads "Best Brains" and Friedman has one that advertises wrathoffriedman.com - with a picture of his face on it.

I also love the sweet parallels they draw between Will & Helen and Joan & Adam:

- Will & Helen dancing together without music in TDMMDI then Joan & Adam at the end of "recreation"

- The whole artist (Adam, Helen) and the "warrior" thing (Barbara Hall keeps saying that Will is the physical warrior with his police work while Joan is the meta-physical warrior)

- Will/Helen and Adam/Joan having similar arguments in "Vanity" - then of course, the last scene, where the camera starts on the young couple, then pulls back to the older, married couple. Similar cut in "No Bad Guy" where they went from a sweet scene with older, married couple Will & Helen in their bedroom to not-quite-yet-a-couple Joan and Adam confessing their love for each other in the kitchen.

- In "Silence" Adam says good-bye to Joan in the hospital room by sort of putting his hand on her hair and kissing her on the head - when Will walks into the hospital room a few minutes later, he wakes Helen by doing the EXACT same thing.

I don't know if you watch Everwood but Julia Brown used to have this saying where coincidences are just God's way of preserving physics.

I've never watched Everwood, but I really like that quote!

I just love the attention to details on this show - well, God is in the details, right?

The set designers and the actors just add little touches that really make it complete. It actually reminds me of Northern Exposure - they had such great attention to detail as well.

And I mean just little things - like on most shows when someone comes in out of the rain, they are usually magically dry 2 minutes later. In "No Bad Guy" Adam's clothes and hair stay damp for the entire scene. I'm sure that required wetting him down in between takes, but I love that pay attention to stuff like that. In "Silence" I noticed that Joan didn't have nail polish on one finger in the scene when she was yelling at all the gods - because they had a little blood oxygen meter on her finger when she first got to the hospital and those things can't get a reading through dark nail polish. Although there was a mistake later because all her nails were polished in the scene with Adam - little continuity error, but I was really impressed they thought of it in the first place.

And the actors do little things that just seem so natural and make the characters seem more organic. The way Luke sneaks glances at Grace and the way Grace always pays attention to what Luke is doing, even though she pretends that she doesn't care. Adam and Joan are really good at expressing their closeness/attraction without words, even before they started dating (but mostly after "Jump" - which makes sense). Like I noticed that whenever they stood or sat next to each other, they would sit/stand so close together that their arms would touch. And little things after they started dating, like Adam putting his hand on Joan's knee when he sat down next to her in the hotel room in "The Gift" and later on the roof when Joan leans on his leg while lowering herself down it sit next to him and then rests her hand on his knee later. All simple little gestures, but intimate little things that a real couple would do. Stuff like that is what bumps things from "good" to "great".

As you can tell, I could do this all night. I love these details - I'm one of those annoying people who notices all the little things in movies too (like a dead guy blinking) - so I'm going to stop now!

I, too, have noticed many of the things you guys have mentioned. I just had to laugh when I read this, though, Basia. I'm the person in the theater who gets shushed for pointing out that the "corpse's" chest is rising and falling. Nice to know I'm not the only one.

In the last episode when Aunt Olive gives Joan the picture book she is clearly bouncing her left leg

This thread is really interesting to read because whilst I noticed some, there are whole lot that I haven't.

It was in episode 1 or 2 from this season but I liked how Little Girl God was playing with the ball and it really the Earth as if to suggest that God is just playing with us all!

I also agree with Basia

The one that comes to mind straight away is between the Hug Scene between Grace and Luke when Grace is still at her locker and her left hand just rests on her locker for a little longer as though she is trying to compose herself. It was very well done and I think the little subtle things like this are what make the show that outstanding.
