| I do kind of wonder, though, if GW fails to perform the way Moonves wants it to, if he'll just ax it or give it an infinite number of second chances so as not to look like an idiot. It would be a terrible business decision, but bear in mind that if he were to cancel it quickly, it would make him look like an incompetent moron (well, if the shoe fits...), but it would also mean that the audience was right and he lost an insanely dedicated group of viewers, which in retrospect means that the fans have the power over at least a portion of the network's money. And everyone knows no great leader can admit that the common man has that kind of power. Of course, that could just all be in my head. Never got into Numb3rs. I tried watching it a few times, but it quickly turned to background fodder. But I hope it does well simply because it sounds like fairly intellectual television. __________________ What I dream of is an art of balance. I have to say here in Australia its hard to get ratings on a Friday night, unless its football or something associated with Big Brother. I'm hoping that GW will flop, I really think that Jennifer Love Hewitt time is up. But then again, I guess the same was said about Teri Hatcher. | |||

| Apparently we aren't the only people not taken with GW. Found this in an article about the coming tv season: Quote:

| I get much joy from imagining old Scratch...eh-hem. Old Les in his big fancy office pounding his head against the desk everytime another one of these articles comes out. Of course, then I get much more amusement from him feeling that he has to STILL explain himself after what? Four months? So I just imagine him up there in the CBS HQ giving the big Wheel-O-Excuses a spin, then my mind goes to the episode of Futurama where Fry makes a deal with the robot devil and the robot devil spins the wheel of robots. And then I imagine Les at the mercy of the robot devil and my day is a little brighter. And there's our schizophrenic thought pattern of the day. Enjoy. __________________ What I dream of is an art of balance. "I'm just a simple anarchist trying to get through my day" - Grace ~ JoA | |||

| I have no interest in watching the show, not even a morbid interest of "let's see if this is truly as bad as I think it will be." I just think it would waste an hour of my very valuable time. Rather than have annoyed JoA fans artificially inflate the ratings for the first episode, it might make more sense to just show 'em we're not interested from the very beginning, IMHO. | |||

| I agree with you there, but since I'm not a neilson house, I'm going ahead and watching the pilot. I just have issues dissing something like this when I haven't seen it, even though I can't possibly imagine it not being dis-worthy. I'm sure I'll be doing other things as I watch, so I won't be wasting too much time. __________________ What I dream of is an art of balance. | Well...color me "puzzled". Didn't we hear during the last season that TPTB were trying to lure a younger viewing audience to JOA? In fact, they were so determined to achieve this goal that they totally ruined what was unique about Joan of Arcadia. It went from a show about a teen girl who talked to God in many forms and caused ripples and connections in the lives of people of all ages to just another teenage melodrama. The teenage melodrama was not for me but I am well past my teen years. I missed the magic, wonder and mysticism that made the "original" JOA such a great show. I've seen all the promos and trailers for "Ghost Whisperer" and for the life of me, I just don't see it as a show that would attract the so-called younger viewer. It's actually a show that I might have been interested in seeing because I am a supernatural junkie BUT it looks just like the show "Medium". The new television season looks like it's filled with LOST wannabes (Threshold, Surface, Invasion) and MEDIUM wannabes (Ghost Whisperer, Supernatural). Joan of Arcadia was a very original concept that got kicked to the curb by stunt casting and teen angst. | |||

| I agree with your entire post, WBoverlay. I liked the unique aspects of JoA. I love supernaturally-themed shows...well, not everything that's been done, but those subjects tend to intrigue me. I don't see anything all that appealing about GW, however. It's nice that she's helping the dead get some closure, but I'm usually more interested in how the supernatural elements affect the living characters. I love Medium, but a big part of that is because Allison is using her gift to help the living, to solve crimes, and in many cases, prevent future crimes. Maybe there will be some of that ripple effect in GW, if a family member can be made to realize their loved one is at peace or something, but the way the promos have been presented, it just doesn't look that compelling to me. A big part of JoA's appeal was also the casting. Everyone worked so well together, and the relationships were (at first) believable and enjoyable to watch. When they switched to the teen melodrama, I had a harder time relating, since it's been decades since I was a teen, and I never had any of that romantic drama at that time. It does strike me as odd that if a show with a fair number of teens in the cast, whose storylines veered very much into familiar teenage-related TV drama, wasn't able to draw in younger viewers, how many in that age range do they expect to get who can relate to a woman in her 20s who's married? I know they're looking for 18-40 or so, but still, I have a hard time imagining who will comprise the long-term GW audience. So, for those of you who do watch the pilot, for whatever reason, I'll be interested to read your opinions. If I seem to be missing out on a really terrific show with what turns out to be an appealing cast, then I'll give it a try. I have lots of DVDs to catch up with (series and movies) and I suspect that's how I'll be spending the hours between "Firefly" reruns on SciFi and "Numb3rs". ![]() | |||

Another Numb3rs fan? isn't that show amazing? I never in a million years would have thought I would like ti so much, but I'm addicted. I can't wait for it to start up again. __________________ Minions Wanted! Please JOIN the MISHA COLLINS campaign! "The dude is a revelation" | |||

| "Numb3rs" is another show with a very appealing cast who work well together. I am *so* not a math geek, even the "for Dummies" type class Charlie was trying to teach in one episode was over my head. Maybe it's the theoretical-scientific approach as opposed to "here's the blood evidence, now let's see who it matches" that's more common to other crime shows. Plus, despite Charlie being a math geek, I have a minor crush on him anyway. ![]() But back to GW...does anyone know anybody personally, friend/family member/pet whois really excited about GW and thinks it will be great? Just curious. I don't know anyone who has expressed any interest in it, apart from people here and on other boards who are more interested in seeing it fail. I'll be very interested to see what the ratings are for ths premiere, especially in comparison with JoA's premiere ratings. Dunno if anyone has that info available, but it would be amusing to compare them.. | |||
