| My TV guide was plastered with JLH and GW pictures. I'm proud to say that one exacto knife blade and 10 minutes later, that's no longer a problem. I really look forward to this show bombing. I mean, there's already like eight shows following the same plot.. | |||

I don't remember JoA getting the promotion GW is getting. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right places but the only thing I really remember was a Joan Postcard I got in the mail and that was from Amber's people. Maybe if CBS would give all of thier shows equal press then they wouldn't take a slight dip in the ratings. Even if GW didn't take JoA's spot I don't think I'd watch it because basicly it's JoA and Tru Calling/Medium all rolled into one...and frankly I liked the orginals just fine, I don't need a new spin on it. __________________ Minions Wanted! | Actually, I think season one of JoA was pretty heavily promoted. I remember seeing ads for it on TV all the time, something in TVGuide, and it was really buzzed about by the critics. Actually, before all of that stuff, I remember hearing about it from my sociology teacher who apparently knew someone who was somehow involved with it (what I get for going to a media arts school, even the soc teachers have connections) and I liked the idea of playing on the Joan of Arc story because it's interested me in forever. I love supernatural things, and I do some ghost hunting as a hobby. Between a couple friends and I we're about as well stocked as the Ghost Busters. So the fact that a show about talking to ghosts doesn't appeal to me at all really says something about the show. And it isn't just that it's stealing the spot of what was probably my favorite show ever, it just doesn't look good at all. I've read some of the casting sides for upcoming episodes and...blah. It's like Touched By a Dead Person. Only not as creepy and intriguing as that show would be. __________________ What I dream of is an art of balance. ![]() I think the main thing this show has against it (besides pissed off JoA fans) is the casting. It does sound kind of interesting on paper but I don't think JLH is intriguing enough to pull it off. __________________ Minions Wanted! Please JOIN the MISHA COLLINS campaign! | I will agree with you on the casting part. Who on earth at CBS thought that JLH could draw in the young-uns? I'm 21, and I had NO clue who she was until I heard about GW. How long has it been since she was even relevant, career wise? I mean, I'm not gonna blame her for the CBS big wigs decision, but seriously, JLH will probably bring in less young people than Bea Arthur. If they wanted someone to bring in the kids, then they should've gone with one of today's hip, young A-list TV actors. I don't have a clue who that would be, but... It's a semi-interesting concept, but it doesn't have that dark spin like Medium does where she solves crimes. It's just JLH's boobs going around helping ghosts find closure. What annoys me is that it's pretty much the same basic concept that JoA was. Girl has some weird, supernatural connection to the universe that somehow gets her to go out and help people. It's the Poor Man's Joan of Arcadia. I'm trying to decide how well it's going to do. NBC's "Three Wishes" is the only real competition, and it's also the same go out and help people premise as GW. But the thing about it? It's a reality show. So it's actually someone actually going out and actually doing things. That makes it slightly more appealing to people who might watch GW for that reason. __________________ What I dream of is an art of balance. | Ha! Nice. You know, I haven't seen one bit of good press about that show. I cannot wait until it's laying on the network compost pile and gray matter is oozing out of ol' Moon's ears. __________________ What I dream of is an art of balance. Why did they ever decide to let JoA go for this? Was it cheaper or something? I couldn't help myself Kim. I hope CBS and NBC's Friday nights fail. Teach them to cancel my two favorite shows! (Third Watch on NBC)edit Correction I just remembered that Numb3rs airs on Friday nights, so I change that to I hope GW fails big time but Numb3rs does well. ![]() __________________ Minions Wanted! | The most that will happen if GW gets axed its first season will be that Les Moonves will have a nice, heaping helping of foot for dinner. Someone over in another forum said that they read something in LIFE magazine that said something along the lines of "if you're still mourning the loss of Joan of Arcadia, then GW calls you" or some such thing. I couldn't help but think "well, there's a load of crap, because no self respecting JoA fan would ever actively watch the show it got cancelled for." Not including the pilot, of course, thus our hatred be justified. __________________ What I dream of is an art of balance. | I doubt very much that "GW" has been given the go-ahead for a full season. Most shows are lucky if they can air the first 13 episodes, let alone get picked up for the back 9 if those are successful. It's the rare ginormous hit like "Lost" or "Desperate Housewives" that gets early news of a full season in its first year. I'm betting "GW" won't get past the 13th ep, if it even gets that far. I just don't think it's going to attract any more viewers than JoA did. If many of us were staying at home on Fridays watching JoA the last two years, and the network has alienated us, how many more viewers do they expect to get, I wonder? It really doesn't seem like the kind of show that most people would cancel their Friday night plans to watch. I don't see how they can film a third season of JoA even if CBS wanted to. The cast have moved on to other projects. The sets have been broken down and the props were being sold on eBay. In order to hire back the same cast, rebuild the sets, replace the props, etc., it would probably cost more than CBS could realistically afford, anyway. So even if "GW" fails spectacularly, and is cancelled quickly, as Shadowcrawler said, it will make Moonves look like an idiot, but it won't bring our show back. I do hope "Numb3rs" does well because I really like that show, but I certainly don't need to sit through other shows until it comes on. As I recall, the 10:00 shows might do a bit better in the ratings on Friday nights, because at least a few people might be home by then, whereas many are out at 8:00 or 9:00, no matter what's on. I will be very surprised if "GW" does better in the ratings than JoA's first season did, but it's too early to tell. I haven't made up my mind yet about watching the pilot episodes, but it's not currenly on my TV calendar. | |||
