It's In The Name - Episode Titles

I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the titles of the episodes. If the title has anything to do with the episode or maybe something that the character does. I just thought it might be a fun topic. *g*

Lets take Recreation for example. This title could be seen in two ways.

1) Recreation - Having fun, relaxing. God asks Joan to throw a party. This party saves the lives of the detectives.

2) Re-creation - As CBG said, to re-create, to start again. Perhaps this is in relation to Adam and Joan. Their friendship was on the rocks since DMMDI and up until Jump. Maybe this was meant as a way to "re-create" something they once had.

Just a little thought. *G* I have waay to much time on my hands to do this lol.

Actually, I have Mist. Believe me, you aren't the only one with a lot of time on your hands.

1) The Devil Made Me Do It - Joan questioned God and thought it could possibly be the Devil in disguise when he told her to keep 'Ascension' out of the art show. She didn't keep it out, therefore when Adam was going to quit school she had a failure of imagination and smashed his sculpture... with a chair.

Most of the rest are more obvious... lol. One of my opinions which just has to do with the fact I'm an A/J shipper that I came up with it... lol.

2) State of Grace - I know, I know... mostly because Grace had a big part in it... right? Well, I think that too... but also, it was sort of a 'grace' period for Joan and Adam, no fighting, no avoiding... or anything like that that would put stress on "their" relationship, I take it as a "State of Grace" for them as well before the Virus makes her debut. Other than that... because of Grace, lol.

You know, I hadn't thought of this. I figured it was because of Grace, but that makes sense.

Also, remember what SecurityGuard!God told Joan when she left the debate thing.

"It's a touch of truth that lets you see the world in a new way. It's a gift that can only be felt when you're open enough to accept it."

I think this can relate to a bit of everyone. Joan has a better appreciation for her father's job, and Grace realizes that the cops aren't the only one's involved when they do their work.

This is a great topic, Mistee

Night without Stars - I think there was an overall sentiment when this episode premiered that it was 1) Least favorite episode and 2) Most confusing title. Confusing in that not many people knew why it was named Nw/oS. After much debate though, I think it's safe to say this:
This was an episode where mostly everyone didn't exactly shine. You got to see a more darker side to them, you got to see them at their worst. The characters in this show are like stars in this JoA universe that Hall (who is said goddess) created. In this "night" (episode), our stars didn't shine too brightly. Thus I think is why they named it "Night without Stars".

I think out of all the episodes, though this wasn't my favorite one, this is ironically my favorite aptly named episode title. Because you really had to put some thought into why it was given that title as opposed to the obvious ones.

Wow, SWG, that was a great point to Nw/oS... I had gone on that train of thought sorta before, but not totally. I was relating it more toward Joan than everyone else, but it was the same for everyone else too.

The Ties That Bind(Double Dutch) - I think that I came to understand this name in reference to the connections that God mentioned that she had with Adam and Casper, although I could see it with the whole Kevin/Rebbeca/Michelle thing and the Luke and Will and also the Helen and Adam interaction as well.

I'm wondering what the meaning behind "Jump" is? Something clear and evident? I know I'm missing something here and it isn't the Van Halen song

I think "Jump" could also be seen as "leaping", maybe a "jump" in the right direction or to "jump" into something. Lets think about the important facts that had happened.

Rocky's death and funeral
Joan finds out about Adam's Mother and her letter
Joan confronts Adam about said letter and says she wants him to have "good ripples"
Adam later comes over and Helen reads the letter to Adam
At the science thing Adam and Joan reconcile and kiss. (awwwwww)

So "Jump" could be seen in about as many different ways as their are languages. But I'm more for the "right direction" kind of Jump.

Ahhh that's a good point Mistee! Thanks, I missed the obvious... ha ha... I hope I'm not remembering the episode wrong, but when like Joan talks to God in the hospital before the end of the episode, didn't God say in the form of the red-headed woman that Adam's Mom gave off bad ripples? She said:

"Adam's mother's ripples are not good"

How could God be wrong about that, despite the fact that Joan said at the end that she did have good ripples? I don't get it! :

Before Joan said that the ripples were now good, it wasn't... at least during that time between Elizabeth Rove's suicide and before Adam read the letter. That's why God said that Elizabeth's ripples weren't so good. Because Adam had thought that his mother's death could be his fault... but in the letter, he discovered that his mom's death wasn't his fault at all. The weight of her death was like these bad ripples that as slowly killing Adam's spirit... until he found out that he needn't blame himself. That he did nothing wrong.

Hope that made sense

Ahhh... okay! That did make sense, I'll have to watch that over again. Thanks Sweetwater Gal. I guess it's in line with the show's philosophy that God doesn't change, but people's perceptions do.

I'm watching 1x15 right now, about 26 min. in when Adam comes up to Joan at her locker to talk about the concert, it almost sounds like he says "Hey Jenny" or "Janey" instead of "Jane". Could just be the way the background noise is affecting things though. LOL... I'm starting to notice all the little things.
