JoA needs our help - SAVE THE SHOW!

Banner made by Just_My_Love

Orginally posted by Caro in the french Canadian thread.(posted before by Just_my_love) I've bolded the important parts.

Catholic News Service

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Some people who consider joining the Catholic Church move at the pace that best suits them. For Barbara Hall, creator and executive producer of "Joan of Arcadia," however, it was crime that helped speed up the process.

"I had this life-threatening experience. I was a victim of a violent crime," Hall told Catholic News Service in a telephone interview from Los Angeles, where she was wrapping up the last episode of the second season of "Joan of Arcadia."

Raised a Methodist, "I was 'nothing' for a long time. I was an intellectual in college," Hall recalled, "And then when I came to California, I started researching all kinds of metaphysical stuff, and all the world religions."

Before the crime incident, which she did not elaborate on, Hall said she was already considering Catholicism, but the crime "accelerated my search. I found a church nearby and I went to a Mass, and that did it for me."

Hall has been a Catholic for about four years. She told CNS she had been developing the idea for "Joan of Arcadia" even before she joined the church. She said she "actually got started about three years before."

While many would be surprised to hear that it was crime that spurred Hall's decision to join the Catholic Church, "I think people would be aghast if they found out that 'Joan' might not be back next season," she noted.

The series, which deals with Joan of Arc-like visions of God -- but with a present-day teenage girl -- is completing its second season, but it may not return for a third. "People who see it love it and think it's doing well, but they don't know the whole story," Hall said.

"Joan of Arcadia," which airs 8-9 p.m. Eastern time Fridays on CBS, ranks 71st of 180 series that have been placed in more or less permanent time slots this season on the six commercial broadcast networks, with 8.11 million on average tuning in each week. "This is good enough for Friday nights," which are second only to Saturdays as the least-watched night of prime-time TV, Hall said.

"JAG," a CBS warhorse now in its 10th season, which follows "Joan of Arcadia," is 51st overall in the ratings. "Networks tend to think in terms of nights, and not in terms of (individual) shows," Hall told CNS, adding that CBS has eight to 10 new dramas in development for the 2005-06 season.

There is no guarantee that one of them -- or all of them -- would make the fall schedule, but if CBS believes it has developed a strong string of new dramas, a series like "Joan of Arcadia" could find itself on the outs after only two seasons, Hall said.

Still, "I don't fidget. If I had any fidgeting, it would have been in the middle of the season when I tried to get the (ratings) numbers up," she added. "I have a Catholic attitude about it. I've done my job. There's nothing I can do anymore. I've done my best."

Last year when she was honored by Catholics in Media Associates for the show, Hall said she felt compelled to create it to "initiate a conversation with the rest of the country or the world to begin a dialogue about the possibility of God. This is a show also for the alienated, the disenfranchised, the hopeful but doubting public."

"Joan of Arcadia" heaps much attention on Amber Tamblyn, who plays the title character; she is the daughter of Hollywood actor Russ Tamblyn. But the actor who portrays Joan's brother, Kevin, is Jason Ritter, son of John Ritter, who died in 2003 following rehearsals for an episode of his own series, "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter."

"It was very difficult" on the "Joan of Arcadia" set in the wake of the elder Ritter's death, Hall said. "Ironically, it happened as we were doing our show about death. ... It was very unsettling for us.

"But I think he found it was helpful, in a weird way. It was a tough time in an otherwise weird situation, to lose his father before John got a chance to see the show."

When she's not producing "Joan of Arcadia," Hall has an alternative-country band, the Enablers, for which she plays guitar and sings. A couple of Enablers' songs have served as background music for "Joan" episodes, and the band is preparing its third album release this year, in addition to engagements at clubs in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
After reading the article Caro posted I think it's about time we get our butts moving and let CBS and the powers that be know that we love JoA and want it back next year. Final decisions are not made until May on which shows come back or get cut. We have plenty of time to get our voices out there. But first we need to be orginized so any idea's on how we should do this? We'll need banners, addy's maybe somebody could even come up with a site to store all this info on so we can link people to it. etc.

Lets all put our heads together and see what we can come up with.

JoA is worth the effort!

Address

There are two addresses, one in New York, one in Los Angeles:

CBS Television Network
51 West 52nd Street
New York, NY 10019

CBS Entertainment
7800 Beverly Blvd. Suite 351
Los Angeles, CA 90036

I'm not sure if one address is better than the other. Post cards should probably be addressed to Les Moonves (CBS President), Nina Tassler (CBS Entertainment President) or Nancy Tellem (CBS/Paramount Entertainment President) - or heck, send one to all three!
More contact info can be found on the next two pages.

Thanks for posting this here.

There are many other shows that don't do well and are still on air and it would be sad to see JoA leave. I'm not usually the idea type of person until I see others and that's when I start to think. So I'll definately come back and try to come up with something.

But JoA is the effort!

Thanks for posting....I REALLY hope that JoA will come back!!!

I know when other shows that I watched were in danger, people got together a petition, but they usually don't have much validity because it's so easy for one person to forge a bunch of signatures when doing it over the internet.

I'm like Izzarelly....I usually need someone to get me start before I get any good ideas!! So anyone, please post your ideas!!

Well, I'm not sure if this is a good idea, but it's a start.

A few years back a bunch of people in the General Hospital fandom wrote letters and sent roses and all this great stuff to Lindze Letherman [she plays Georgie Jones] to show her how much we loved her and her character on the show, because she had been told that she wasn't popular on the show.

So my thought is doing basically the same thing as done there. Sending in a bunch of letters and whatnot to CBS to let them know that people love Joan of Arcadia and want to stay on the air.

You can email CBS from CBS.com - there is a "Send Feedback" link at the bottom of the page.

If you want to mail something (and I've heard that this carries more clout than email) here is the address:

Leslie Moonves
Copresident, Co-Chief Operating Officer
Viacom Inc.
CBS Television City
7800 W. Beverly Blvd.
Los Angeles, Calif. 90036.

You can also mail stuff to Nina Tassler (same address)- she is the Entertainment President at CBS and I heard that she helped develop JoA, so she might have a soft spot for the show.

Also - it is better to send postcards and not letters (letters usually get tossed because of the anthrax scare a few years ago).

I've heard that nice, well-written, brief notes about why you love the show are best.

Post cards could also be cool because you could show that JoA has fans all over the place.

Thanks for posting the address Basia.

The Fans Can Make A Big Difference

The fans can make a difference a big difference but sometimes that requires thinking outside of the box thinking bigger then most. Any positive activity the fans can create is good. In my opinion the thing that will turn the exec's and media's heads around is the good old dollar. Yep folks it's all about money unfortunately.

I am busy at work on a campaign to try to save this show. I've been working with web masters and emailing JOA yahoo groups, web sites, and posting tons of messages on forums. I have been thinking about this campaign since I noticed the decline in ratings this season. I also run another campaign for the TV show Moonlighting that I"ve been working on for over 3 yrs now. I know for a fact the fans have a lot more control over what can happen to their show then they realize.

Here's one way we can do something immediately: everyone who owns a
JOA site or related JOA site put a link to pre-order the JOA season 1
DVDS on the front page of your site or put a fairly large banner
announcing the release of the DVD's. We already have a pre-order link
at our site at www.moonlighting21.com

Shows have been brought back such as the Family Guy by DVD sales.
Here's another thing that can be done, if you have affiliates for your
site inform them of the pre-order or banner for the DVD's idea and
hopefully they'll do the same. Some web masters have a lot of
affiliates with their site. Which means some web masters may have a lot of emails to send out but it will be worth it. One thing I've learned is you never know who can do what. What I mean by that is doors will open up if there is real positive energy put into a project. Maybe we can get every fan listing and fan
site to do the same it will be great.

Another thing that can be done is for people to show their creativity by creating banners to promote the DVD's and posting them on forums and their sites so people can download them and post them everywhere. The whole key here is to get the word out about the DVD's and how great this show is in general.

Nows the time for the fans to get active and make a differece.

Thanks everyone for your time and effort.

I agree the best method is snail mail, emails or big gestures. Petitions can be signed by anybody but if fans actually take the time to site down and collect their thoughts for some form of mail it shows TPTB that they really care about the show.

Postcards are a great idea. They are easy to read, shows that there are JoA fans from all over the place and we could even make postcards that say Save JoA or something of the sort.

Banners promoting the show and the DVD sales are also very good. We can post them anywhere even if we don't have sites of our own. On our sigs on other boards, in our emails heck even in our Live Journals etc. Hopefully some of our great fanartists can come up with some we can use.

I wish we had started this earlier so we could come up with something big, like and ad or sending CBS something on behalf of JoA fans but time is limited.

Joy please keep us informed on what you come up with.

Thank you Basia77 for the posting address. I would like to participate and send postcards but I can't write easily in English. I'm quite sure I'm not the only one. I could do something nice and well-written in French but I'm sure it will not useful.

Does someone want to help me and write a nice, well-written notes that I can use and put the text on this thread ?

We have to do something quickly. Before the ending of March, I think.

People in Québec when they want to save a show usually call the broadcaster and make their comments on phone or with fax. Do you think we can use this strategy with CBS ?

Other thing we do, it's to sent opinions letters in TV guide or TV magazine or newspapers to say how much we like the show and eager we are to see next season.

Of course...for anyone who doesn't speak English very well I'm sure that if they post their thoughts in here, someone will proofread it!! As well, if you want Caro, you could always PM me and I could translate or proofread what you write in English.

I really like this idea. If we all send post cards from our area to show that people from all around the world watch the show. This is also a quick and easy way that we would be able to do before the month is up.

-I wonder if it's possibe to make "Save Joan Of Arcadia" Postcards, that we all can get and send them in from where we're from.

-I agree about sending flowers and gifts (like some religious quotes) from bookmarks and such to send to CBS as well as the cast members.

Im also looking into going to a t-shirt shop and having them make shirts for each of the cast and sending it to them. Is there a petition online yet? If not, how can you make one?
