THE SUGARMAN

After a charge led by Mayor McCoy (guest star Robin Givens) threatens to further escalate tensions between the North and Southside, Jughead (Cole Sprouse), along with Archie (KJ Apa), tries to put a stop to a dangerous alliance being considered between the Serpents and a long-time rival. Betty (Lili Reinhart) turns to Veronica (Camila Mendes) for help when she’s thrust into the center of a burgeoning mystery surrounding The Sugarman. Finally, Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) confronts her mother Penelope (guest star Nathalie Boltt) after a traumatic run-in forces her to make a stark realization. Marisol Nichols, Madchen Amick, Luke Perry, Ashleigh Murray, Mark Consuelos, Casey Cott and Skeet Ulrich also star. Maggie Kiley directed the episode written by Tessa Leigh Williams & Arabella Anderson (#206). Original airdate 11/15/2017.

Tftnt!

I zoned out of so many scenes but there was some good stuff too.

Likes:
- Meaningful Cheryl screentime.
- Toni sticking up for herself.
- Cheryl/Toni met. Sort of.
- Alice being Alice. She always gets the best scenes and lines, no matter how minor.
- Ghoulies’ spiked bracelets and chains. Hello, my high school accessories. Mine were less tacky though (or so I'd like to think). Theirs shine too much.
- Beronica working together. They should be paired up more often.
- Bad things happening to Nick.
- Quite a few characters were reading this ep. Good for them. (I want to know which books exactly but I don’t want to put any effort into finding out.)

Mehs and dislikes:
- People. Masks. Bla bla bla. But I guess the writers can get a pass on this given Jughead is a fake deep teen (and I still love him for it).
- Bughead. I’m usually ok with them even though I don’t really ship them but this ep they went on my nerves for some reason. Too bad they went with Bughead and Varchie when Beronica would have been so much better. But at least the break-up drama was over by the end of the ep.
- I like that we learned more about Josie’s dad but her mom’s motivation for raiding the South Side High seemed a bit too far-fetched to me.
- I’m also kinda not buying Jughead’s investment in the whole Serpents/Ghoulies thing given he’s been a Serpent for about 3 seconds and knows about their hostile history mostly through other people’s stories. But they did beat him up, so I guess personal grudge could have been driving him.
- The final Betty/Serial Killer Person scene was a bit cheesy. But good for her for taking control.

I love this show. I don't understand how people can't like it. The plot moves fast, it has a darker vibe. I think the writing is witty and fun and this one in particular had some great dialogue. It also has a lot of mystery and cliffhangers and twists to it. I just dont get all the critique really. :/

Anyways, I loved this episode as I have loved every episode of season 2 so far. I think I prefer it to season 1 actually...

I LOVED CHERYL THIS EPISODE. Bravo to whoever wrote this one because she had some fantastic development and scenes. It’s in Cheryl’s character to pretend like everything is okay. It just sucks that she doesn’t have the support from her family. I liked seeing her torment when she saw Nick. Disgusting. This dude needs to be punched. I loved Cheryl standing up to him and gaining her strength back. Her scenes with Betty and Veronica were great too and I love that she ended up helping Betty out.

The scene with Penelope at the mansion was my favorite scene of the episode. I loved Cheryl questioning why her mother couldn't support her! Such a touching moment. Side note, what is with Penelope’s face? Wasn’t she burned? LOL. (At least we saw her arm burns later in the episode). Her saying nothing happened to Cheryl at the beginning was so horrible. I can’t stand that woman sometimes. I was glad she managed to come around in the end and actually helped Cheryl out. For once she did something good.

SO GLAD and relieved that Toni and Jughead didn’t hook up except for kiss and I respect that Toni said she didn’t want to be Jughead's rebound! BRAVO GIRL. I take back what I said about her last week.... (But then what was the point of the kiss?Whatever, in either case, I hope that whole thing is done now.) I love that she said she was more into girls. Go find Cheryl now. BTW, I loved the small Cheryl/Toni moment when Cheryl called her cha cha. They had chemistry i that one tiny moment and should totally be a thing! “Not today cha cha. I was born for this moment.”

I also liked the tiny bit of development for Josie and Reggie this episode. I like that Reggie told the truth about the drugs. He doesn’t seem all that bad. The Reggie/Josie scene was actually really cute. Loved when he said V was getting between them . And calling her Beyonce. I also liked that we saw a tiny bit more of Josie and her mom and learning that her father has a drug addiction. This is what I mean, I just like hearing more about her. She needs this every episode. And next week it seems she'll be getting a tiny bit of focus with Chuck (ugh). He better not turn into Nick and try to rape her or anything too. Just keep him the one dimensional *******.

Archie was so cute grabbing Jughead and telling him that he needed to get out of the school. (Archie grabbing his shirt was hot.) Other than the awesome A/J scenes, we didn't get too much for Archie this episode. I am okay with it but I also want him to have more to do later on. I do enjoy the friend scenes with Betty. Him telling her to talk to Jughead was nice of him... And all the moments with Jughead were great. I hope Jughead doesn't continue being upset with him for too long. Archie stopping Jughead was awesome but maybe not the smartest move. I'm a bit worried for Archie after that move. Also, FP IS BACK! I am sure about his “great’ piece of advice though… It was pretty obviously it wasn’t going to end well.

Betty was great this episode. Her fixing the car was adorable. I also loved her confiding in her friends the truth about the black hood. I did love the focus on the B/V relationship and that Veronica demanded an excuse for Betty's words. I love that Betty actually told Veronica the truth. So so happy the feud didnt last, and them working together was amazing. I want more scenes like this for them all the time! I am not sure this caller is really the black hood because he’s all threats and no follow through? Maybe the writers are trying to throw us off there. Betty standing up to the hood at the end was a great moment too and I hope this is the last of the phonecalls because I found them a bit cheesey.

Poor Jughead. He was clearly hurt by Archie breaking things off for Betty. The B/J scene with the car was hard to watch. The angst is so sad. (But also good!) Betty was a bit delusional thinking she can just talk to him like normal after her excuse of a break up. Jugheads, “And you said you loved me.” UGH MY HEART. I love how Cole delivered that line! Also his, “Betty you did the thing that could actually hurt me.” STOP IT I CANT HANDLE IT. I do like that Betty told him that she would explain things to him. Her telling him “I never stopped loving you Jug. I'm not sure I can.” made my heart so happy. I was a bit confused at the end though. I realize she told the black hood off, but like, I wanted to see her explaining things to Jughead. I kinda hate that it was just skipped over. I hope they explain that more next episode. Once she finds out about Toni she probably wont be very happy though...

Veronica was pretty fierce this episode. Veronica and Cheryl were great... The V/Kevin scenes were cute. I like that she confided him about what Nick tried to do. I also love that Kevin defended Veronica. As crazy as her parents are, at least Hiram and Hermione stand up for and defend her. Them causing Nick to get into an accident though... That's a bit too far and Hermione genuinely seemed concerned when Veronica didn't seem to bat an eyelash. Not that Nick doesn't deserve it somewhat but still... I do like that V still has her fire. And the Archie/Veronica scenes were adorable as ever too. The small V/A scene in his bed was so cute. Seeing them all cuddled was so adorable. Their smiles and teasing were amazing. They just have this lightness to them that I think really works! I am so glad we are getting to see them just be happy for a while, lets keep t going! Their scene on the street was great too, “Just make it back to me. Preferably in one piece Archiekins.” ADORABLE OVERLOAD.

Sugarman was the southside teacher. WTF. I am a bit confused onto his involvement and why it's important to the storyline for sure.

I thought it was an amazing episode. Consistent writing and I loved the dialogue and the evenness between all the characters. It wasn't too crazy either in terms of plot which I found refreshing. Next week looks crazy. The fact that Betty is becoming suspicious of Sheriff Keller makes me think he's not involved...

This episode was amazing! There's so much I want to say, but I don't want to bore anyone.

This episode was so much fun to watch, I loved the race. I didn't like that Archie quit the race on behalf of Jughead OR that he involved the police, because he's put everyone in danger. The identity of the SugarMan, I wanted to be a little better.

I am so anxious for Jughead to tell Betty he slept with someone else. It's going to destroy her.

Alexa, I agree with EVERYTHING you just said.

WHAT AN EPISODE I am so hooked on this show now, it's getting better and better.

I am so in love with Cheryl after that episode! Cheryl, Betty and Veronica were so perfect in this ep. I just wamted to give Cheryl a hug the entire episode, like I did with Betty last week. Also Veronica at the end, so sassy and badass, and Betty with the blackhood, god, I love these women!

I am SO HAPPY Toni made that comment about liking girls more, and it looks like her and Jughead won't be happening, Josie and Reggie seem to be having a thing, WHICH LEAVES CHERYL! and Mad's said she would get a romance this season, so surely it will be Toni? why else make that comment??? PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN, that little scene they had was so hot, I ship it already.

I'm so happy we got BERONICA scenes after waiting all that time, I love them so much.

Now that Bughead are back together I feel like my Barchie dreams are once again shattered which makes me sad.

so after that ep my ships are:

Beronica
Barchie
Toni/Cheryl
Josie/Reggie

Well, it's not a show for everyone I think as it's a a very dark version of some of the Archie characters from the comics & fans for example I could see not being a fan of how these characters are portrayed, even though are ''loosely'' portrayed from the comics. Such as Ms. Grundy for example. They made her quite the opposite for this show & as I've been noticing reading in this forum people were not happy with what she did in her brief time on ''Riverdale''. So there's 1 example of how some could be turned off by this show.

Anyway onto this episode. I first thought that Cheryl didn't tell her mom about what happened at I that I believe it was a hotel she likely shouldn't have been at on last week's episode. Figures her mom would become more despicable though. I won't be surprised if because of that she gets killed off this season.

I learned by watching this episode that apparently people can walk into a Police Station & shoot someone without anyone stopping them. Geez. Why even put someone behind bars there then or have police? The town of Riverdale is like anarchy.

He didnt sleep with Toni. She said it was a pg13 grope session or something. Meaning imo that they they just made out a lot. She even said "crashed" at his place which made it sound like she just slept over. But Betty is going be devastated after she hears about the kiss.

I agree, the women are fabulous!

Seriously, someone would be turned off because they dont like this version of Grundy???? WHO CARES ABOUT GRUNDY in either? LOL. I don't really think thats the reason. In fact, people that dont like the show have told me that they found it boring, which I simply just dont agree with.

I liked season 1, but season 2 has been next level. the show has really found it's footing, its kind of like scream mixed with pretty little liars and I LOVE THAT.

This ^
I was thinking they only made out. At first when I saw her after she woke up at his place I thought they slept together but then later she did say that stuff that made me believe otherwise.
