Like what? If you dropped the Lindsay and Carrie storylines, you would have to replace it with other storylines. Plus it wouldn't have made a lot of sense for Q to be interacting with Brooke and Peyton.

If they had delayed his death they could have had him interacting with Peyton on occasion because of her connection to Lucas.
