I think the THING that hurt me the most about this Dan killing Keith thing is that it COULD have gotten avoided, and I realized that more as I got older and re-watched it.

I find what Dan did as pretty much unforgivable so I didn't care for the redemption nonsense but I feel the distance between Keith and Dan started a long time ago with Karen of course. And that can sort of be Karen's fault because she never told Keith about Dan actually wanting to be in Lucas life so Keith grew up hating his brother for no reason.

Than of course later on in life, Keith sleeps with Dan's wife, Deb.

So this turns Dan to even MORE of a villain because he starts believing that Keith literally wants EVERYTHING that he has, from Karen, to his son, Lucas, to even sleeping with Deb. It makes Dan even more aggressive and hell bent on destroying Keith's life they way he felt his brother was trying to destroy's his.

And then the season 2 finale, the fire happens... someone leaves Dan for dead and that's what takes Dan down the darkest path he's ever went through because he needs to know WHO killed him. At first he believes it's Lucas but of course eventually he learns that it's not so in his mind, he officially HAD the killer as Keith.

So I feel even if it wasn't at school, it would have been some other time he would have tried to kill Keith... and it's ALL because he believed that Keith tried to kill him at the dealership only to find out it was Deb the whole time. When he finds out about Deb, I think that's when REAL remorse and guilt starts...

Before that, he just felt he killed the person who was going to kill him.

So, the worst about this whole situation is how it could've be avoidable and how in some sad way it felt like years in the making.
