I agree with this completely.

I feel like things were thrown for a loop because Brooke wasn't a character from the beginning so they didn't know what to do with her and decided the storylines as they were writing it instead of having an actual plan.

^ I think it had more to do with Mark discovering James/Joy's chemistry than anything to do with Brooke.
