They managed to make it worse. He married his fiancee and then she died.

It was so ridiculous, and basically made it look like he got back with Spencer because his wife died, even with them making it clear things weren't over between them.

They were in a car crash when they were leaving town (moving away) because "no one leaves Rosewood". He survived, she died in hospital.

It was. He married her while she was on her deathbed, the whole thing was stupid, and killing her off was an insult.

There wasn't one, not at all. Before they even went to leave town he admitted to Spencer that he didn't want to go with Yvonne, pretty much, he said something along the lines of having everything with her (the future with the house, the kids etc.) was "almost perfect". As in, he wanted that future, but not with her.
