If they knew that from the beginning they would never have hired him, so they obviously didn't, so when he joined the option for more would have been open.

He made guest appearances in the previous 3 seasons and the character would have never worked as an regular long term either, and the showrunner isn't the type of writer to keep someone around for the sake of it.

Shows make actors regular and kill them off in the same season, the Walking Dead does all the time.

It's definitely not, which is why they only kept him around while they had an story for him. An bad show would have kept him around for seasons despite not having anything to tell with him.
