I don't know but I kind of liked him in season 7 and 8, his clumsy attempt to fit in Brooke's group of friends.
It was fun to watch it and made him more likable, at least for me. He was more serious in S9 and I really missed his humor then.__________________

He tried. Remember the poker game night? Or when they played outside and nobody wanted him in his team because he was so bad in sports?
I didn't like the Alex/Julian storyline romantically but it was fun to watch them as just friends.__________________

In season 9 you could see that he got closer to Nathan and the other boys. In the very end they finally accepted him.

The others were kind of hostile towards him in the beginning. I really don't know why. Maybe because they were afraid he would break Brooke's heart.
