GRADUATION DAY — Dan (Paul Johansson) must face the harsh consequences of his decision to murder Keith (guest star) as Karen (Moira Kelly) and Haley's (Bethany Joy Galeotti) pregnancies complicate the lives of Nathan (James Lafferty) and the graduating seniors of Tree Hill High. Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) wrestles with his post-high school options, and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) and Brooke (Sophia Bush) prepare to spend the summer in Los Angeles together. The episode was written and directed by Mark Schwahn.

As the fourth season concludes, Rachel returns and hosts a graduation party for the senior class. Elsewhere, Karen has a dream about Keith while still in the hospital.

This was a really well done finale.

This episode was really hard to get through because it was a month or so after the finale actually aired that it was released there would be a Season 5. So it really was like we had no idea where everyone was going and it was a bit of a finale in a lot of ways. The last scene at the river court was real of a lot of emotions. The characters were going off to school, to New York and other places as the cast didn't know the futures either. Would they stay in Wilmington filming or would they go off and continue their careers doing something else

i agree, i loved this finale so much.

i loved the end of the year party and then seeing them all end up on the river court. all the couple moments were great and of course that last n/l scene was amazing. it definitely could have been a series finale, what with dan finally turning himself in and most things seeming to be wrapped up

Here was only one way to end the fourth season, an epic series finale kind of way. Even if the shoe was known to be renewed at that time, the show dynamic was ultimately changing. There was a time jump and everyone was moving their lives into a different direction

yeah like chad said it was the best finale for the high school years. it was closing one chapter and then a new one was set up for the remaining 5 seasons.

I think (almost) every ship got a beautiful scene out of this episode: my BH , NL , BL, BP, LH, BM, BR, LP, NH, all the girls together...even Rachel/Haley got a scene.

I feel that this show is made of chapters anyways:

s1-s4: High School years.

s5-s6: Dealing with the time jump / Everything getting their dreams at the end of s6 / LP leaving.

s7-s9: New chapter, new goals, new problems, new characters, new storylines, new relationships ect..
