BL #618: "And you know, Lucas and Brooke are kissing and you’re like, 'yes!'"

Welcome to the 618th
Brooke & Lucas Appreciation Thread

"In the crazy world of Tree Hill,
the one constant has always been Brooke and Lucas.
From the moment she set her sights on him
and lost her heart to the older Scott brother,
they've been forever entwined in Tree Hill, through good times and bad.
Lucas let her go, but he brought her back to him and he healed her broken heart, as she healed his."

"Brooke and Lucas. Lucas and Brooke. I love them. So much. So, SO much.
It’s like…I forget they’re not real sometimes. Not, like, that they’re not real
people, where as, if I saw Sophia on the street I’d ask her where Lucas was
I just mean, they give you this essence, this feeling that true love exists. I
love the way they talk to each other, and hold each other, and kiss each other,
and hug each other, and just everything. Something about them… maybe I
can’t put my finger on it just yet, but something about them. I wouldn't lose
my admiration for them. Ever. You know?"

"Brooke and Lucas started out solely as a lust,
but soon it became something meaningful and beautiful.
Their relationship is a one of a kind. They are awfully different
but that’s what makes them so wonderful.
They complete each other."

"Brooke and Lucas are super cute together.
I don't care if they stay together or not,
but the time they have shared together has been great."

"Brooke and Lucas give me this tingly feeling. >giggles<
Like, when I watch their kissing scenes,
or a scene where they get all emotional
...I can feel it inside me...like little butterflies.
In one light, it's kinda pathetic cause I feel like
I'M the one in love, but in another light...it's totally awesome."

"They have the best songs. What else is there to say? All
emotions are expressed through music. Brooke and Luke's
music pwns. It pwns all. It expresses their feelings without any
words.
Is that weird? You think, if another couple had the same songs,
I'd like them, right? No. No, my friends. Because Brooke and Lucas
make the songs what they are."

"Over three seasons, the love between Brooke and Lucas has slowly blossomed
from confidante to loverbut always,
always was their relationship based in friendship,
in mutual adoration, in love...
And that has made all the difference."

"Brooke makes Lucas happy,
and he completes her in the same way.
I'm not the kind of person
to ignore something like that."

"1 hella hot couple, 2 freaking completed souls, 3 oh-so-aggravating-sometimes
seasons, 12 so-not-creepy holy cute hair Sniffage, 15 embarrassing heartfelt speeches,
16 OMFG! >squee< meaningful hugs, 35 orgasmic kisses, 85 letters of in!love people,
tons of warm sex, multiple awwwing moment and most definitely 600 ass-kicking
threads. …Beat that, bitches. Oh, and so many more 'Sundays' to come!"

"There are eighty-two letters in here… and they’re all addressed to you."

"You know, if you wanna get to know each other better, we could always talk about those letters."
"Or, we could cut out my heart and you could stomp on it. Luke, it’s embarrassing, you were never meant to read those."
"Brooke,… I love those letters. The girl in them is so open and honest."

"Well, I hope I don’t disappoint you – I know I set the bar pretty high… with the first two."
"Shush! I’m reading here."

"Well here's something to make you smile. My next letter."

"Yeah, who knew words could be such a turn on."

Brooke and Lucas’ Pivotal Moments

Season One

Brooke: So, anyway … You’re in it now, aren’t you? When that last shot when through, did you feel it change?
Lucas: Feel what change?
Brooke: Everything. I mean, how many moments in life can you point to and say, "That’s when it all changed?" You just had one.

"How many moments in life can you point to and say, 'That's when it all changed'?" Brooke's quote provided for some heavy foreshadowing. I'd say this was definitely a moment in which "it all changed" for Brooke and Lucas. This was their first real interaction with one another and it showed how their contrasting personalities seem to compliment one another. Their chemistry has always been there from the start. I'm pretty sure we've never seen two people gaze at one another, after just meeting, so intensely as they did in that moment. The scene really elicited thoughts of the many possibilities that could present themselves to this inevitable pairing - Jas

Lucas: So why'd you call me, anyway? I'm not Nathan or one of the guys...
Brooke: Because I knew you'd come through.

Well, before this episode, there wasn't a couple on One Tree Hill more non-canon than Brooke and Lucas. They had only shared a few scenes, in which Lucas was clearly not interested and Brooke was clearly just being either frisky or drunk. Naked Brooke popping up from the backseat of Lucas' car, Lucas returning Brooke's leopard bra, a drunk Brooke hitting on Lucas with horrible red lipstick... not exactly an epic love story. With Brooke discovering Peyton being sexually assaulted under the influence of a date rape drug, she decided that she needed to call someone, not just anyone, somebody she could count on. She could have called any guy out of the phone book, and they probably would have shown up. But she called Lucas. Why? "Because I knew you'd come through." This one phone call would result in two conversations, one in Peyton's bedroom and another in his truck, that would change their lives forever - Kels

Lucas: Where were we?
Brooke: We were having fun.
Lucas: Mmm-hmm. I’m glad we did this.

Brooke and Lucas’ first date is one of the most memorable and important moments of their relationship. Lucas, for the first time in a long time actually had fun that night with a wide spread smile across his face. Their first date led the first real relationship for Brooke. By the time their date was over, Lucas had endured some hot and heavy kissing and went home without his virginity. At first, Lucas may have not felt anything for Brooke, but without this first date we would have never gotten their first break up, Lucas’ long silent love for Brooke, their first reunion, their first fights, and most importantly we would have never gotten Brooke and Lucas - alyssac

Lucas: You ever have a tough decision to make, and you wonder if you made the right choice?
Keith: Well what kind of choice are you talking about?
Lucas: Well…
Brooke: Morning Boyfriend … again.
Lucas: Thank you.
Keith: I think you’re good.

For the first seven episodes of the show, Lucas and Brooke barely had any interaction, although her interest in him was clear. When he chose her over Peyton between episodes 9 and 10, it was a pivotal moment in their relationship because it showed her that Lucas wanted her for more than just sex, something no guy had ever done before - Aleah

Brooke: Okay. I’m sorry. It’s just that you’re the first really great guy that I’ve ever dated and that really scares me because I never gave a rat’s ass before, okay? But I do now.
Lucas: That’s good, because I give a rats ass about you too.

Cause we have spoken everything. Everything short of ‘I love you.’

Brooke had always struggled with who she was, and what she wanted. Being the “good girl” just wasn’t her thing. She was fierce, she was forward…and when she wanted Lucas, she got him. I don’t think for a moment she was aware of how hard and how fast she was going to fall for him. She became vulnerable, fragile…she grew weak and afraid that she may become attached to this regular, ordinary teenaged boy. The rat’s ass scene seemed so pivotal because Brooke finally realized that it was possible to feel this way. She didn’t spill her heart out in the most articulate way…but he responded. And she fell harder. And even though the jack monkey fricked it up shortly after…it was the moment Brooke realized she wanted Lucas in her life. And that clearly reflected in the future - Mighty

Brooke: You can’t control love, you know? Your mom and Keith. You’re worried about their relationship right?
Lucas: Right.
Brooke: They’ll be okay. People that are meant to be together always find their way in the end.

Although Lucas might not have realised it at the time, Brooke’s words would become prophetic in regards to their relationship. In this moment, it became clear that despite the roads they’d have to travel, and despite the pain they’d endure, they’d make it through, because they’re meant to be together and they’d find their way together. It gave them, and us, hope, because things weren’t looking good for our couple. So no matter what hardships they’ll go through, things will work out the way they’re meant to for Brooke and Lucas. In the end - Cari

Season Two

Brooke: Why does everybody lie? You know, the bad guys lie to get in your bed and the good guys lie to get in your heart. And I’m the idiot that falls for it every time.
Lucas: Hey… Brooke, you are not an idiot. Not even close. You know who you are. Most people don’t, you know. I mean, that’s why they lie. They’re afraid people might find out who they are before they figure it out themselves.
Lucas: Let me take you home.
Brooke: I can get home without a guy, thanks.
Lucas: Okay.
Brooke: Wait! I really don’t wanna walk.

The beach was first seen in 2.01 where Lucas met Brooke and Peyton after returning to Tree Hill. The symbolic burning of his letter showed that Brooke was supposedly over him. Yet merely eight episodes later, in 2.09, the beach becomes the place where the two have their longest conversation since their break-up. In that conversation Brooke admits to Lucas how stupid she feels letting both Felix and Mouth (and other guys) lie to her to get into her bed and her heart. Perhaps we see a stab of guilt or realization next as Lucas looks away. Lucas offers to take Brooke home but ever the stubborn one, Brooke refuses it, insisting she can get home without a guy. As Lucas stands up and brushes the sand off his pants; she turns to him and takes up his offer. The scene that follows can mark the unofficial beginning of Lucas falling in love with Brooke. As she turns to retrieve her shoes, his hand extends down to her level, offering it up as both a gesture of gentlemanliness and friendship. Though she hesitates at first, Brooke accepts it and the two walk down the beach together. After that moment on the beach, Brooke tells Lucas that she wants to be friends, as she begins to open up to him once more - Tej

Lucas: But there’s somebody else. And she’s a part of my history that came before you and I’ve been lying to myself about the way I feel about her and I need to see her tonight. Cos I feel like she’s slipping away.

One of the most pivotal moments for Brooke and Lucas was when he realized he couldn’t just be friends with Brooke because he cared too deeply for her. When he went to go talk to her about his feelings and saw her with Felix, I think it definitely solidified just how much she meant to him. It was a slap in the face but at the same time, I think he came to even more of a realization that she completed him. You could tell how much it hurt him, seeing her with someone else, but he realized in that moment that he had to have her. That they were meant to be - Serene

Brooke: I don’t wanna go!
Lucas: What’re we gonna do?

This moment was significant in Brooke and Lucas's relationship because it was the first time Lucas stopped thinking about himself and starting thinking of him and Brooke as a team or complete unit. He realised he couldn't live without her and wanted to do everything in his power to get her to stay. They had become a "we". He didn't ask what she was gonna do or even how he was gonna survive without her. He said "we" because he was planning on helping her and being beside her every step of the way. In that single moment by just saying those words and grabbing her hand she knew she was not alone in this world or in her heartache. He pulls her into his arms and lets her cry while he comforts her. You can see on his face that this news is just as upsetting to him as to her. Maybe even more so because she has yet to learn his true feelings for her and he is scared she might never know – Calla

Brooke: …You did this for me?
Lucas: I wasn’t ready to lose you yet. So, you, gonna stay or what?
Brooke: Yeah, of course! Oh, I wasn’t ready to be lost! Thank you.

For me it was the beginning of Brooke/Lucas. Lucas had been dropping hints all season long with the stolen glances and heartfelt conversations but it wasn’t until that moment I knew for sure his heart belonged to Brooke. He made it perfectly clear whom and want he wanted. The way I see it that moment defines them, “I wasn’t ready to lose you yet. I wasn’t ready to be lost.” Have faith be B/Lers neither of them are ready to let go - Meredith

Brooke: We’ve been doing really well with this whole friends thing, right?
Lucas: Yeah, we have.
Brooke: Yeah, I think so, too. So, I wanted to ask you something … Ah, hold on.
Lucas: Hey, Brooke, you still there?
Brooke: … Yeah.
Lucas: Okay. What’d you wanna ask me?
Brooke: … Let’s not screw this up, now, okay?

Brooke finding the ‘Peyton box’ was like a reminder of what Lucas did to her and how painful it was for her to go through it. She found the box at a time when she had owned up to her feelings for Lucas again, and was ready to give it another shot. Finding that box made her remember how badly her relationship with Lucas had ended. It reminded her that Lucas chose Peyton over her. It upset her because she thought he was still into Peyton, but it helped BL’s relationship move further. She brought the subject up to Lucas and was visibly upset over it. Before that, Lucas was not able to bring himself to tell Brooke about his feelings, but knowing that Brooke thought he might still be into Peyton, prompted Lucas to admit his true feelings - Naima

Brooke: Tell me that was a goodbye kiss.
Lucas: I wanna be with you, Brooke.
Brooke: … What?
Lucas: I’m sorry. I know we’re friends… it’s just how I feel.
Brooke: What about Peyton’s stuff?
Lucas: I keep that stuff as a reminder of how badly I screwed up things. With you. To remind myself, if I ever get a second chance, I’d never let you go again.

Lucas' confession in the Season Two finale was pivotal to his relationship with Brooke for alot of reasons. At the end of Season One both their relationship and friendship were in shambles. Damaged beyond repair, some would say. But then Lucas came back with a new attitude and a new perspective on life ... and on Brooke. I think my favorite aspect of Season Two was Lucas slowly falling in love with Brooke. It was so honest. Like one day he looked at her and thought "What am I doing? This is the person I should be with." And the culmination of all this was Lucas' confession and his showing that he could be with anyone but he chose her ... That for him there was no other choice. That he was betting everything on her. With those few words Lucas managed to piece it all back together: For himself, for Brooke and, most importantly, for their future together – Meghan

Season Three

Lucas: I’m the guy for you. I know we’re just part-time, that’s cool. You know, do whatever, have your fun. But one of these nights, you’re gonna realise it: I’m the guy for you, Brooke Davis. You’ll see.

That scene was such a turning point in BL's relationship. It solidified that Lucas was 100% committed this time to making things between him and Brooke work. It also showed that he was willing to let her sort things out, he was going to wait … forever he had to. From Brooke’s perspective I think that was something she really needed to hear. Her number one fear was that her heart would get broken all over again … like it did last time. You could tell by the look Brooke gets in her eyes after Lucas says "I'm the guy for you Brooke Davis" she understands. She knows that Lucas is not going anywhere this time. She knows he's in it for real this time. Lucas is the guy for her – Ana

Lucas: You’re the one who wanted to be non-exclusive. I’m just doing what you wanted.
Brooke: What I wanted? I wanted you to fight for me! I wanted you to say there is no one else that you could ever be with and that you would rather be alone than without me. I wanted the Lucas Scott from the beach that night; telling the world that he’s the one for me.
Lucas: How was I supposed to know that?
Brooke: …You just are.

It is difficult to understand what the term 'unexclusive' really meant - especially for Lucas who was faced with Brooke urging him to date other people, and then turning around and giving him the cold should for doing so. So what was it that she really wanted? Him to fight? Of course she did. Brooke Davis is in need of saving, although she never says it until 3.17. Brooke needs to know that Lucas will go to the ends of the Earth for her because her heart has been broken once before by him and she doesn't want to experience that pain ever again. The 'unexclusive' tag is obviously just a test Lucas needs to pass and prove his worth to Brooke. So far… he's failing. Brooke's famous 'Fight For Me' speech reveals exactly what she is looking for - not in a guy - but in Lucas. And there it is. A huge slap in the face for Lucas who was simply doing what he thought Brooke wanted. Of course, now he knows what it is she needed. Someone who was true to his word. Someone who lived up to his promise of showing her that he's the one for her. The one boy who declared his love for her in front of her other suitors. The one who she thought would do anything and everything to prove that. Unfortunately he fell short. Brooke looks defeated, and above all, disappointed that the guy she pinned her hopes on, the guy who promised her the world… didn't even realize what it was he was meant to do. That is why her 'Fight For Me' speech is an important step in their relationship. If Lucas wants to be with Brooke - he's got to fight for her and prove his worth - Tej

Brooke: This is how I spent my summer, Luke; wanting you. I was just too scared to admit it.
Lucas: Brooke! I’m sorry! What you did with Chris; its okay.
Brooke: It’s not. It can’t be. It’s too much to forgive!
Lucas: Well that’s too bad, because I forgive you.
Brooke: You can’t!
Lucas: I just did. So you’re gonna just have to deal with it. I’m the guy for you, Brooke Davis… and I know I hurt you last time we were together but-
Brooke: I love you.
Lucas: I love you too. Pretty girl.

"This is how I spent my summer, Luke. Wanting you." With these words Brooke evaporated any doubtful thoughts of Luke's, or even ours, as to where exactly Brooke's heart was. We had all hoped that Brooke's games and "rules" of dating were simply armor to protect her already scarred heart. Two episodes earlier, Brooke seemed to make us doubt again, sleeping with Chris Keller, under the influence of too many glasses of wine, supplied by Chris. Can a person's love be measured by their actions? "Brooke, I'm sorry. What you did with Chris... it's okay." The harsh words uttered by Lucas earlier in the episode seemed to be permanent, set in stone. She was a slut, scum, nothing but a part of his past. With him not speaking to her for days and Lucas' obvious overlooking of his own previous mistakes, we were wondering if he was ever going to let go of Brooke's. This one line acknowledged everything in their past, the good and the bad. "I love you, too, pretty girl." He does not care for her as a friend. He doesn't want to study science with her. He wants to be with her. Lucas finally saw Brooke's mistake as just that, a mistake. What's any relationship without forgiveness? What's any relationship without angst and heartache and joy that makes all feel alive inside? When Brooke stepped off of that porch, I think Lucas remembered something he had said months earlier. "If I ever get a second chance, I'd never let you go again." - Kels

Lucas: The difference… the difference is I love you, Brooke. I wanna be with you, not Peyton.
Brooke: But why? I need to know why.
Lucas: Because you … kink your eyebrow when you’re trying to be cute; because you quote Keimoo, even though I’ve never actually seen you read. And because you miss your parents but you’ll never ever admit that. And because I’ve given exactly two of these embarrassing speeches in my entire life and they’ve both been with you. I mean that’s gotta mean something, right? And because we’re both gonna get pneumonia, but if you need to hear why I love you, I can go on all night.

The argument in the rain scene from 3.13 was a very pivotal moment for Brooke and Lucas because it was a moment of clarity. Lucas made it very clear to Brooke that the biggest difference between her and Peyton was that she was the one he wanted to be with, and she is the one he loves. When Brooke needed to know why it was different for him this time around, he pin-pointed specific reasons as to why he's so in love with her. Lucas' quote just shows how in tune he is with Brooke, and establishes how deeply his love for Brooke truly runs - Jas

Lucas: I love you Brooke. I don’t know how else to say it.
Brooke: How about how you show it? I am not pushing you away Lucas, I am holding on for dear life but I need you to need me back! Okay, why wouldn’t you tell me about the kiss and why didn’t you call me while you were away and why wont you ever just let me all the way in?!

"…and why won't you ever let me all the way in?"

Those words fell like a ton of bricks on Brooke and Lucas' relationship. It wasn't the kiss in the library, it wasn't the fact he never called her, or anything to do with a certain blonde. It was simply a confession of Brooke's biggest fear in their relationship. Lucas had often talked about how he wanted to know the girl behind the red door, and Brooke had said how difficult it was for her to let her guard down - but what of Lucas' guard? As well as Lucas believes he knows Brooke, he seemed to forget that he hasn't exactly been as open to her. Perhaps this line will serve as a prompt for Lucas to reveal his HCM to her. Her desperate plea seems to show that she knows there is something up with her boyfriend but she feels as if he refuses to let her into her heart, just like she's let him into hers. This proves to be a pivotal part in their relationship simply because both Lucas and we viewers have realized just how disconnected Brooke feels from Lucas - especially after the school shooting incident. Hopefully this will be a catalyst for a more open and honest Lucas and make their relationship much stronger - Tejal

Brooke- Dance with me … Did you miss me while you were away?
Lucas: Everyday. I was just angry and upset about Keith and I just needed to be alone, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t miss you Brooke. Because I did.

The last dance scene is really representative of how far they come from as a couple and individuals. Since the Goodbye scene, we have watched them grow, build each other and a solid foundation for their future throughout the season. Being vulnerable with Lucas has been Brooke's biggest battle since day one and in that final scene, it was clear she had found a kind of peace she had never known before. And she was able to do that through Lucas' love and devotion.

For the first time, it wasn't about her insecurities about Peyton or the fact that she was scared of losing him over her. She didn't even need to talk or hear more about what happened between them, proving how confident she is of their feeling and relationship and that she finally found the trust in them and in herself their couple needed. Being in love with Lucas is no longer a hazard because she has found a freedom in her relationship with Lucas that she doesn't have to analyze or hide. And Lucas, too, has reached a complete state of peace of heart. He only has eyes and soul for Brooke. Never that has been doubted or clouded.

While they have helped each other to find themselves as the person they wanted to become, they have respected each other’s needs and want without neglecting the other. They no longer need those huge demonstrations of love, they just need to be them. That scene is the epitome of their new found relationship, showing that they are connected in a way that makes it clear that their hearts are indeed the same - Summer

I'm curious who the cast like want their character with? I wonder if Sophia and Chad want BL together (no personal stuff involved) but I mean if they think Lucas and Brooke complete each other. Would be interesting to know..

I always heard that Sophia wanted BL together. She said that she believes how much Brooke loves Lucas and that he was the only person to ever make her feel loved.
