I think it's so hot when straight guys can do that. I have a guy friend who went to school with me who also loves Ryan (he was his favorite character on The OC) and he has a man crush on Tom Welling (from Smallville).

Oh, lol I like them because I enjoy their acting, find them attractive, and love their off screen attitude.

I like Ryan's hero complex, but I was happy when he let it go in S3 because that showed major growth for his character.

Granted, he never fully let it go, but he learned to balance it in a way that doesn't mess up his life. I guess you can say that he remained very protective of the people he loves and would still go out of his way for someone, but he learned to do it with discretion.

What were your favorite things Ryan did?

I didn't know if you meant the heroic things Ryan did or just the things he did in general. So i'll list the 'heroic' things.

-Picking up Marissa and carrying her to the pool house.
-Saving Seth from the water polo team
-"You know what I like about rich kids *bam* nothing"
-Helping Jimmy at the Cotillion
-Saving Marissa in TJ
-Standing up to Julie Cooper, the dragon lady
-Keeping Carson's gay affair a secret
-Helping Oliver even though he didn't like him (I hate Oliver, but I thought it was a nice thing for Ryan to do)
-Ryan convincing Oliver not to kill himself
-Making Luke dump Julie
-Bringing Marissa home from Chino
-Not going back to Chino too beat up Eddie
-Leaving Newport for a baby which may/may not be his. Even though it broke his heart to do so.

-Saving Trey from going back to prison
-Ryan confronting Trey about what happened with him and Marissa
-Punching the dean (It's not very heroic, though it needed to be done)
-Not taking the job as a fisherman
-Not fighting Volchok under the pier
-Stopping Johnny from robbing a store (I wish Johnny did, so he'd go to jail. The R/M could be together.

I'll bold the ones you chose that I love the most and give my own commentary.

I agree with all of them by the way.

I also added onto your list too. This doesn't include S4. I'll do that Season later.

-protecting Kirsten in The Gamble (in juvie)
-being chivalrous with Caleb and winning the pool game against him!
-Still being respectful to Caleb and concerned about him when he went to jail, had a heart attack, etc. despite how he treated him
-Asking Sandy how Trey was the first time they met in juvie-- he was more concerned for his brother than his own well-being
-Opening up to Luke about his dad to make him feel better and give him some perspective
-Teaming up with Luke against the water polo team
-"I can't change where I'm from, but I can change where I'm going."
-Running up to kiss Marissa on New Years
-Sticking up for Hailey in The LA (I hated how some fans used to say he needed to mind his own business. If it weren't for him getting involved in some of those scenarios, more people would have gotten hurt).
-Always studying, reading, and helping the Cohens with groceries and stuff
-Going to Summer's room to tell her that Seth still really cared about her
-Being the PERFECT guy to Lindsay
-Giving Marissa his suit jacket to give to DJ so that he could go to the dance with her
-Showing up at Lindsay's doorstep saying, "Then I'll try again tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that because I like you and... who knows why, but if you got to know me I think you'd like me too."
-Getting Kirsten to open the door and get to know Lindsay better in The Chrismukkah That Almost Wasn't

-Picking up Marissa and carrying her to the pool house.

-Getting money from Johnny's dad ==> I loved this! He didn't get enough credit from fans for that in my opinion. You could tell in that episode from what he said to Johnny's dad that he didn't do that for Sadie. He did that because he really cared about Johnny and wanted his mom to be okay. He pretty much risked his life and safety to get that money, and I love the scene where he opens up about his past to Johnny's dad.
"Make things right with Johnny."
"It's a little late for that now, don't you think? Johnny will never even know."
"Maybe but... He'll know." ==> I think by "he" he was referring to god or a higher being or Johnny in heaven knowing.

-Opening up too Sadie ==> I SO love the scene where he opens up about Trey
-Ryan dropping the 'heroic' act ==> Good boy, lol.
