I honestly think Privileged failed because they really didn't promote it at all. Hopefully that won't happen this year. *crosses fingers*

The fact of the matter is I came into this thread looking for something that would make me look forward to the show only to become annoyed by that comment. It struck me as akin to hypocritical because it is my belief that this vampire genre as benefitted greatly from TWL and all the craze involved with that franchise...
The Damon/Elena slant does intrigue me so I'll wait to see if they are actually going to explore them or if that side of the triangle(ugh) is handled as just an obstacle for Stefan/Elena. I haven't read the books so I dont even know if that's a plausible direction.

And yes, it is in my opinion that that is a ridiculous reason. Don't use the ad hominem approach to my post. That's not hypocrisy. But that's me, and I stand by it. On your note, I do hope they explore more of Damon/Elena in the TV series. In the first trilogy, it's mainly Stefan/Elena. But I guess even Ms. LJ Smith didn't expect Damon to have such following. Maybe that's why he made the second trilogy more about Damon. Though I didn't like much of Nightfall (the tree-men thing and Wings thingy are just huh?), reading more of Damon is enough for me, ehehehe

Yeah I really didn't like Nightfall either. Hopefully they'll kinda go down their own path with the show and won't include that book....

I found the books! Although, they didn't have the first one. Which is both good and bad. Good as I will watch the show before I read the book; bad as I'll be looking at it longingly on my bookshelf and not being able to read it.

I think they'll follow the first book, like they'll have SE get together the same way, and take the mythology from all the books, but after that they'll do their own thing. I don't think they'll follow the same "action" plotline as the books (which is really not that great IMHO), and as for the relationship plotline I think they'll get SE together at the beginning, but while in the books they never break up, in a tv show that's really not realistic.
I also think they'll have DE meet a lot sooner... in the books they meet at the end of book 1, after SE are already together. But I think Elena will already know Damon when she gets together with Stefan. We know they don't really meet in the pilot, but I think in episode 2-3 they'll have a conversation at least.

I don't want ES to get together right away, i want some build up, like starting by being friends. That's kinda what annoyed me a bit from the books, they got together a little fast. Not that it stopped me from loving them or anything, just something i hope they do a bit different.

Hm, you could be right around that. I don't think they'll wait forever for them to meet.. a few episodes in for sure.

Of course you're not the only one, have you visited the DE thread on the couples boards? There's lots of fans for both couples.
I know my spec was about SE getting together (which we all know they will, at least for a bit), but that doesn't mean I prefer SE to DE, I'm just being realistic

I also think they should wait a bit before getting SE together (in the books it was very quick), but not too much. Half season 1, like DS in Gossip Girl, would be nice.
Like, SE meet and like each other in 101. First half of S1 would be Elena going after him, trying to get with him.
