Uhmm those writers sure have a chip on their shoulder about Twilight, don't they? I don't think it's smart of them to make fun of RP, those fangirls are VICIOUS.

I think that was actually pretty funny

Fangirls should know how to take a joke. Besides, for all we know, they might be poking fun at some of VD cast too. If it indeed was for RP, then that's a wake-up call

I don't even like RP but I think this belief that every actor should have washboard abs (or every actress should be stick thin) is absurd and damaging.

Well that just put me off to this series. Nobody messes with RPatzz. Especially somebody who is going to profit by how in vogue Twilight has made vampires.

But FTW Damon/Elena is hot.

I feel sorry that that is one of your premises for watching a show -- basing it all on one simple joke. If so, then surely, what else are you gonna watch? That's the price of being famous, honey, I'm sure your beloved RP knows that. He gets much more negative comments than what Ms. Julie Plec twitted, if it was intended for him, and I'm sure you know that. And see, he still survives, and with all his sparkling skin intact, hehe

I am not a fan of RP or even the Twilight movie (I like the books), but I just think it's unprofessional to make fun of someone like that, especially since it may put Paul in an embarassing position, like some reporter may see the tweet and decide to ask him something like "So do you think your abs are better than Robert's? Do you think you're better than Robert?"
And what is the poor guy supposed to answer to that? "Yeah, I'm totally better than him"? Or, "No, my executive producer was being a jerk"?

And I agree with ~DropsofJupiter~ - if this series is successful, which I think it will be, it will be in no small part thanks to the vampire fandom that has been created by Twilight; and if the people in charge of this show act like it's better than Twilight (which it may be, who knows? But that is not the point), it will put off many Twilight fans, who are the potential viewers of TVD.

This is why I think Ian's approach to this is the better one, to simply say "we are grateful because we probably wouldn't have a show without Twilight [and let's be honest, they wouldn't. These books are 15 years old], and I think there is room for both of us in the entertainment industry"

I'm a Twilight fan and wasn't offended at all... Robert has been compared to Taylor and his wash board abs though out the fandom anyway. So who even cares? I remember that the Twilight Lexicon made a compassion against the two. I highly doubt Rob cares.

Yeah I doubt he cares either. I remember my cousin told me in the commentary for Twilight Rob joked about why he didn't have spray painted abs. I'm pretty sure it's just a joke and nothing to be serious about.

I don't think the quote was meant to be taken seriously, it was just a joke. We don't even know if it means Rob, could be some other vampire on VD set.

Let's just talk about the Spoilers we got so far and then discuss or speculate on how the show will run.

So for those who read the book, what was the end like?

I still think it's different if Rob or a fan joke about it, or someone who doesn't know him at all and his in the industry does. But whatever, let's just hope for the sake of the show it doesn't reach the ears of the RP fangirls.

I was thinking more of like the LOTR books (oh yeah, that old!). So how was it so far? What are the things you lvoe in the books that you wanted to see/play out in the show?

Mhh, I don't know exactly. I think the latest books would not work well on television - Elena becoming a vampire, then dying, then staying dead for a book which changes narration, then puff! she's alive again, etc etc - that does not good television make, IMO. So I hope they take the mythology and the characters and then do their own thing. Like Gossip Girl.

Ah, good point. Sometimes it's just really hard to put into TV (or movies) something that would be great to describe on books. There are little details that screenwriters just couldn't put into the visualization.

They'd prolly just base the show on the book but it won't be a total adaptation. It is good for me as I haven't read a single book. It'll be more interesting if I watch and then compare it with what I read. It's better than reading then comparing the show.
