Spoilers - Please Do Not Post Unauthorized Script Excerpts - Important

Hi everyone. We were recently contacted by people connected with the Joan of Arcadia show, and we were asked to remove some unauthorized script excerpts from a thread on this message board. We’ve edited the excerpts in question, but in the future, please do not post any unauthorized script excerpts from any television show to prevent any more problems like this. Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

I know this is a dumb question but by unauthorized do you mean ones not released to the public? Can cast & crew scrpits while filming be posted. I am not sure how the rules go.

No, that is not a dumb question at all.

I think what happened in the JoA case the whole script was posted onto the thread without the permission of the people in charge of JoA. Nikki knows more of the details about that than what I do.

As for posting scripts that the cast and crew have, I think that is okay as long as the whole thing is not posted and a source is cited. I may need to check on that though so I will get back to you as soon as I find the answer out.

You're right. The entire script was posted, and it's not permissable here at FF, especially without proper authorization. In addition, entire scripts or sides shouldn't be posted here on the boards, anyway, since it's really a violation of copyright. Spoilers should be paraphrased or summarized.

I do get some scripts sometimes but never thought they could be posted here. Thought it would be o.k to just post excerpts only or dialogue.Will be glad I can post some stuff in the fall

Just to further clarify, I'm still not sure whether it is *officially* okay to quote *anything* from the script, even a line or two, or should we just write a very brief summary and later refer to what's stated in the summary? The way it's stated above is still a bit confusing, as it sounds like it's okay to quote if it's not an entire script or side, just not an entire script. I never saw an entire script, but sometimes a page or two directly from the sides, which does, in retrospect, seem like too much quotage.

From the title of this thread, and what Jerry D. said, it seems we should not post *anything at all* directly from a script or side.

For example, (making this up entirely):

Buffy: So, I was told by the doctors that this whole Vampire-Slayer thing was just something I made up to cope with the unacceptable reality of my life. Does that make sense to you?
Giles: Excuse me, young lady, who are you?

as opposed to:

Buffy asks Giles if the whole Vampire Slayer thing was something she made up as psychological compensation for a reality she doesn't accept, and Giles indicates he doesn't even know her.

So we don't mess things up, which is the proper, legally-acceptable approach? The latter seems safer, but I really want to be sure, so everyone is clear. Can a moderator or high-ranking official type clarify? Thanks!

I spoke to Jerry D, the Site Administator to clarify this. We don't allow any script excerpts to be directly posted. Even posting a couple of lines could be considered illegal. So please paraphrase.

Chris, thanks for clarifying about the scripts and checking with Jerry while Bel and I were on vacation. Sometimes, things get muffled and we're always trying to be careful here at the board, so we won't violate any laws or copyright issues. It's always good to have clear and understandable reminders.
