To ensure that no one in fairytale land – especially Snow White – had any more "happily ever afters," Evil Queen Regina cast a curse which trapped the fairytale characters, frozen in time, and brought them into our modern world. Although still alive, they had no knowledge of their former selves and were sleepwalking through life – ageless -- for 28 years, until a savior arrived in the form of Emma Swan. Unbeknownst to Emma, she was the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, who had whisked her out of fairytale land and into our world as an infant to save her from the curse. Abandoned as a baby, Emma's life was anything but magical; her last job was as a bail bondsperson, but she mostly drifted without much of a life plan. When her 10-year-old son, Henry -- whom she had given up for adoption years earlier -- appeared on her doorstep with a book of fairytales and a wild story about how Emma was the progeny of fairytale characters trapped in a town called Storybrooke, she thought he was crazy. But curiosity got the better of her, and when she brought Henry back to the town – where Regina, ever the control freak, had made herself mayor and was also Henry's adoptive mother -- Emma soon discovered that Storybrooke was more than it seemed. Over time she came to believe the stories were true, began to see cracks in the curse, and was finally able to break it.
Reality and myth were merged as the fairytale characters began awakening, once the curse was lifted, and remembered who they were. But to their dismay they were not transported back to fairytale land. And to make matters worse, Rumplestiltskin – aka Mr. Gold – in an effort to gain the upper hand in his power struggle with Regina, introduced magic into the town. In fairytales magic has its place, but in our world it can have unfathomable consequences. Now the fairytale characters must contend with magic in their quest to find a way home, as new fairytale characters are revealed, old acquaintances are revisited, and some we had come to believe could be trusted will turn against their own kind.

Robert Carlyle spent most of Tuesday afternoon and evening inside Mr. Gold’s pawn shop, visited first by his formidable foe, the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla), as fake smoke seeped out every time she exited out the door. After their interior scene wrapped, Carlyle and Parrilla both met with fans, some of whom had been waiting since 11 a.m. (I didn’t time it right to see Carlyle either on his way to or from set).Source

Jamie Chung has been cast as Mulan "Magnolia." Mulan is described as “a warrior first and foremost, she could hold her own against a swordsman or even a king. There’s a new prince coming to Storybrooke. Pretty Little Liars actor Julian Morris is set to play a noble royal in a guest star role on ABC’s Once Upon a Time.
The British actor will play Prince Phillip, the prince who’s seeking to awaken Sleeping Beauty (Sarah Bolger). He’s described as a man who’s traveled from a kingdom that’s in decline. He’s described as a young, skilled warrior and selfless hero who’s the veteran of many tough journeys. Morris also plays Wren Kingston on ABC Family’s Liars and he’s also had previous arcs on Fox’s 24 and NBC’s ER.(Source)

Sinqua Walls, who as of late has been recurring on MTV’s Teen Wolf as pack member Boyd, has been cast on ABC’s fantastical sophomore drama as Sir Lancelot, TVLine has learned exclusively. I’m hearing that Once Upon a Time will introduce Lancelot as a “sword for hire with nothing to lose,” a onetime proud member of King Arthur’s Round Table who has since been banished, tearing him away from his true love (Queen Guinevere, as lore tells us). Lancelot is described as “a sword-for-hire, he’s one of the most dangerous men in Fairy Tale Land, because he’s a man with nothing to lose. In his tragic past, he was torn from his true love and banished from the king and country he served. Ausiello: As a power struggle ensues in the newly magically enriched Storybrooke, Episode 2 will flash back to when the Evil Queen first met Rumplestiltskin. Also, series cocreator Adam Horowitz told Matt Mitovich that the show got Sebastian Stan back as the Mad Hatter for no fewer than three of the early batch of episodes — “and he doesn’t just show up to say, ‘Hey, I’m still here.’ He has his own story, because his daughter is still out there.” (Source)
COMING UP NEXT | Now that Emma's a believer and everyone else knows what's what, what's next? "Part of it is going to be about how Nucky retains power over the boardwalk," hedges Adam Horowitz, who cocreated the show with Eddy Kitsis. Led back on track, he notes, "The show to us was never about breaking the curse and getting memories back. It was about larger conflicts, some of which were introduced last season and some which we'll introduce very soon." Is somewhere inside this Rumplestiltskin the same imp she fell in love with in the other realm? “Rumple has always been a character who has had to choose between love and power, and he has always chosen power,” series co-creator Eddy Kitsis reminds. “So now that Belle, this wild card, has come into his life, how will it affect his meticulous plan? Maybe this means that Regina's magic will not affect Emma...because she is the savior?
I'm not sure if it's Emma who is doing the butterfly thing, or if it's an entirely separate magic from Rumple. It also hits Emma and Henry a second after the purple cloud of magic, so I think it's separate.
Also, how adorable is Charming running to protect Emma and Henry!
