Interesting, but not that suprising given what we know about Rumpel/Dark One/Beast etc. Did she steal it or force him to give it to her perhaps? and then there's how Maleficent is involved in all this as well.

This is the episode description given in the TV Guide for ep 116 Heart of Darkness. "While saintly Mary Margaret is arrested for killing David's wife in Storybrooke, her fairy-tale self falls prey to Rumplestiltskin's plot and sets out to assassinate the Evil Queen. Could it be that Snow White isn't as pure as we thought?"

She obviously traded it for something. Nobody steals from Rumple without serious retribution. Besides, had she stolen it, she wouldn't have been able to elicit from him the key to enacting the Curse. Remember episode 2 "The Thing You Love Most"?

Rumple created the Curse, so its true underlying purpose is obviously not to inflict suffering upon Snow White--although it can be directed to do so.

Rumple's motives are still unclear. He could have created the Curse for a variety of reasons--his own curse as the Dark One, or his "lost" son, or for Belle. Perhaps all three. I can't wait to find out.
