General Information:
‣ Filming for this season started in mid-February and ends in June.
‣ Season 4 premiere date is June 23, 2014.
‣ The tagline for this season is "Can’t Go Back."
‣ The overarching theme for this season is that not all monsters do monstrous things.
‣ Wolf Watch and the After After Show will be returning with their respective hosts from last season.
‣ The 3B DVD is out now.
‣ Gerard’s story is not over.
‣ They have had discussions about destroying the loft.
‣ Unlike with Stiles, they do not have a name for the Sheriff yet.
‣ They have not decided on what type of Kitsune Kira’s mom is.
‣ According to Ian, the writers were actually trying to find a way to get Haley back.
‣ Christian Taylor directed 4.02 of this season.
‣ Alyssa Clark wrote 4.03 & 4.07 of this season.
‣ Angela Harvey wrote episodes 4.05 & 4.08 of this season.
‣ Jen Lynch, who directed 3.17 (Silverfinger), will be directing two episodes this season. When the NATWP girls visited the set, they saw her directing a scene between JR and Hoechlin, which took place on a new set (couldn’t say what it was though).
‣ Season Synopsis: Still healing from tragic losses, Scott, Stiles, Lydia and Kira return to a new semester of school with more human worries than supernatural, while also trying to help their new friend, Malia, integrate back into society. But Kate Argent’s surprising resurrection brings a new threat to Beacon Hills along with the emergence of another mysterious enemy known simply as The Benefactor.
‣ This season takes place 2 months after 3B ended.
‣ They feel like they have a really strong central mystery this season (mystery will be based in something very personal actually, something that hits at the heart of their four main characters, Scott, Stiles and Lydia, and Derek, especially).
‣ They will not be introducing a whole new mythology this season.
‣ According to Jeff, with Kate’s return we will see the mythology of the Nagual, which brings in South American flair.
‣ There will be more fun and adventure this season.
‣ They will be adding comedy back to this season (a way to sort of heal the wounds).
‣ This season is super cool and not as dark as 3B (there is a lot more humor in the style of S1 and S2).
‣ We can expect to see family, reality coming into Beacon Hills, and new, younger characters.
‣ They will be grieving for Allison and the loss of their innocence.
‣ There will definitely be moments throughout the season where you are going to see people reflect upon Allison’s death and be reminded of it
‣ A lot of this season will deal with the moment when teenagers stop being kids and start being adults.
‣ There will be a lot of really weird villains this season.
‣ This will be a season of bounty hunters and assassins.
‣ There is a huge body count as always this season (running out/need a lot of decapitated prop corpses).
‣ This is one of their bloodiest seasons yet.
‣ There will be a feeling of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ this season (This was in reference to things not always going the way we want them to for the good guys, which comes from real life issues and it will bring in some new villains and some very difficult times for Scott and his friends and his family).
‣ Lacrosse will be back.
‣ There will be berserkers featured this season (the individuals with Kate are berserkers).
‣ Meredith, the banshee from 3B, will be returning.
‣ They are working on a Malia and Lydia storyline right now (always looking for ways to pair the kids up).
‣ All of the girls will be in the middle of the action this season, instead of being on the edge of it and will kick ass.
‣ According to Jeff, Mason, Liam, and Garrett are younger characters who were brought in to complicate the lives of the main characters and they are really good.
‣ We will see a strong stepfather figure for one of the newer characters.
‣ Lydia will be hosting a freshman party.
‣ The story of Eichen House is not over yet so stay tuned.
‣ There will be new wolves in town, whose role and what they are doing remains to be seen.
‣ According to Ian, it won’t get very ‘sweaty’ pairing-wise this season.
‣ In reference to list in the trailer: Jeff called it The Dead Pool. It’s essentially a hit list with all the names of the various kinds of supernatural creatures in BH. The mystery will be, who is this person paying out for the supernatural creatures in Beacon Hills to be murdered? who is The Benefactor?
‣ According to Jeff, we will see all of the main characters struggle with their own financial problems. Since they are Spielbergian kids struggling to make ends meet, it will be sort of a Treasure of The Sierra Madre–type season where they’re all going to be tempted by money. Tempted by the idea of, What if I took out this person on the list? How much money could I get? That’s the big idea of Season 4.
Character Information:
Scott McCall:
‣ According to Posey, Scott’s arc this season is his best and most important one (even more important than becoming a true alpha).
‣ Leadership is becoming second nature to him this season.
‣ We will see him do a lot of growing up, struggling with his morals, being a goofball, and trying to save his friends.
‣ We will see him get more practice as an alpha since he hasn’t been one for long.
‣ Things will be tough for him at the beginning of the season, but we are going to see him solidifying a new kind of pack.
‣ They will concentrate on his role as an alpha and his desire to form and maintain the unusual pack he forms.
‣ His pack will start to grow.
‣ We will see Scott’s fear of turning into the monster that Peter was play out.
‣ There will be a certain point when Scott decides that no one else is going to die on the list and that he will save everyone.
‣ According to Jeff, we will see Scott have very new relationships with his friends, and become a big brother to this kid who is thrust at him.
Stiles Stilinski:
‣ In response to if we will see Stiles have any residual powers or character traits from the Nogitsune, Jeff said that they have talked about this in the writers’ room and he teased that there will be psychological repercussions for Stiles.
‣ We will see him return to form (more “happy” self – humor & wit).
‣ We will see him resume the detective role.
‣ His board comes back this season after he symbolically took it down at the end of the 3B (new mystery is the reason for its return).
‣ He will be a romantic lead this season and even with this status, he still hasn’t been shirtless yet.
Derek Hale:
‣ This will be a big season for him (his has a really cool arc).
‣ They wanted to see him struggle with his role in BH now.
‣ There will be some major events for him.
‣ A lot of things will happen to him and he changes in a big way.
‣ Will be getting a love interest this season (Braeden).
‣ There will be more flashbacks for him.
‣ We will see more interaction between him and the three girls (Lydia/Malia/Kira).
‣ In response to whether Derek is living off insurance money or has a job, Hoechlin said that’s actually a major spoiler that we will find out this season.
‣ According to Hoechlin, there will definitely be more scenes between Derek and Chris this season and if circumstances had been different, they would be on the same team.
Lydia Martin:
‣ She will have a lot of great storyline this season.
‣ She will be discovering a lot about herself.
‣ There will be a lot of fun stuff with her.
‣ She will have a banshee mentor in the form of Meredith.
‣ We will see a little bit more of the Martin family.
‣ We will learn more about her powers, which are connected to her family and a house on the lake (there will be at least one really good scene at this location).
‣ She doesn’t have a love interest at the moment.
‣ According to Jeff, she will be a very important character this season and her banshee abilities will be crucial (she will be mastering them now as she learns how to trigger them).
‣ She will become a hero in her own right this season.
Malia Tate:
‣ Shelley will be a regular this season and appear in the main credits.
‣ They are having a lot of fun with her character.
‣ She will complicate things, both romantically and in the pack.
‣ Scott will accept her into his pack (transition into the pack will be awkward), and her relationship with Peter will be a major complication as well.
‣ According to Jeff, part of her arc across the season is to figure out whether or not this teenage life is for her. She struggles with that — and with learning the truth about her father, Peter.
‣ She will be learning how to be human this season (she will sort of be like Anya from Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
‣ She is the toughest person in Scott’s pack at the moment.
Kira Yukimura:
‣ Arden will be back full time (she’s a series regular and in the main credits).
‣ She will become more a part of Scott’s pack.
‣ She will be joining the lacrosse team (her jersey number is 15).
‣ There are some great scenes coming up with her family.
‣ Jeff is excited for us to see the growth of her character.
‣ According to Arden, Kira is definitely becoming more comfortable with the sword and fighting and her strength in that sense, but the electricity part of it and the more supernatural Kitsune side, she is still learning more about and we will see towards the middle back half, some interesting things that take place (the writers did a good job of making it unexpected).
Chris Argent:
‣ After Allison’s death, he is devastated and goes off to grow a beard.
‣ He will start to protect people fiercely (keep the code).
‣ He will go through a tough time and will fight a battle with himself (he will have a lot of inner vengeance) because he has lost everyone around him and with Kate being back he will be torn between getting involved or staying out of it.
‣ According to JR, there will be this complete and utter rage just coursing through Chris’ veins and sadness and revenge this season.
‣ He will have to trying figure out who he has left, who he cares about — which is, ironically enough, some of the werewolves.
‣ We can expect him to take on a more fatherly role with Scott.
‣ He will come back to BH due to Kate’s reappearance and Scott needing help.
‣ In his return, he will try to set things straight in BH and set some sort of balance with Scott and even with Derek.
‣ He will help the kids figure out who the Benefactor (there are a lot of people that are potentially the Benefactor, so it’ll be interesting watching them try to figure that out).
‣ The struggle for him this season is going to be one of humanity, because he is no longer a father or a husband, but there still is a human nature in him, which he might have learned due to his daughter being in love with a werewolf.
‣ According to JR, we will see Chris interact with a lot of people. It won’t just be Derek or Scott that he is aligned with. We will see this sort of interaction across the board, even with someone he’s never interacted with since Season 1, which is kind of fun and interesting.
Sheriff Stilinski:
‣ We will see a fair bit of him this season.
‣ He will share scenes with Peter.
‣ He will also share scenes with Malia.
Peter Hale:
‣ He will work on his relationship with Lydia more this season.
‣ They plan to give him a love interest this season and the pairing will be interesting and ‘racy.’
‣ While he doesn’t know who Malia’s mother is because that information was a part of the memory Talia took from him, we will meet her.
‣ He will share scenes with Sheriff Stilinski.
‣ We will get a closer look at him and who he’s becoming.
Dr. Alan Deaton:
‣ We can expect more of the teacher-student dynamic between him and Scott.
‣ We will see more physicality for him (he will be getting more involved on the frontline).
Marin Morell:
‣ She will be back this season.
Braeden:
‣ She will be in several episodes this season (9 of 12).
‣ She will be kicking ass.
‣ She will be working with Scott.
‣ She will be Derek’s love interest.
‣ She will be someone that is kind of on the moral fence and is hired by Peter and Derek to find Kate.
Agent Rafael McCall:
‣ He is in Beacon Hills to repair relationships (fix relationship with Scott).
‣ There will be more of him this season.
Kate Argent:
‣ She is definitely a were-creature (werejaguar) and the patterns and spots she displays are very specific.
‣ Her green eyes will be explained later.
‣ She will be a foe to many people, but we’ll be surprised to see who she aligns herself with.
‣ She definitely will have an agenda, and one of those agendas will be to survive at all costs.
‣ She’s still considers herself to be an Argent and a hunter (she will do anything to get Chris back on her side).
‣ They are excited about making her a really powerful villain.
‣ According to Jeff, they are excited about her relationships with both Argent and Derek, and about what she does now that both she and Peter have been resurrected.
‣ She and Peter will have an interesting dynamic.
‣ She will be looking for something and will be focused on that.
‣ She will be still learning about herself.
‣ The Berserkers (new enemies for the season) will be in her control, but not even she know why. They will be protective of her and essentially do her bidding.
Natalie Martin:
‣ She will be featured more this season.
‣ She will share scenes with Scott, Stiles, and Kira.
‣ She will also share scenes with Mr. Yukimura.
Danny Mahealani:
‣ He will be back this season (the amount of screentime he will have is unknown at the moment).
‣ We will find out if he knows everything.
Deputy Parrish:
‣ We will find out what’s going on with him this season (there will be some pretty weird stuff happening with him).
Brunski (Orderly at Eichen House):
‣ He will be back this season.
‣ He won’t be what we expect.
‣ He will share scenes with Stiles and Lydia.
Liam (Dylan Sprayberry – Heavily Recurring):
‣ A new freshman at BHHS
‣ He will be cocky athlete with perfect grades, tons of charisma & is utterly unprepared for the supernatural.
‣ His jersey number for the lacrosse team is 9.
‣ According to Jeff, he has some really great scenes with Scott and Stiles this season.
‣ He will be a big part of the show.
‣ He will play an important role in Scott becoming an alpha of his own.
Garrett (Mason Dye - Heavily Recurring):
‣ A new student and member of the Beacon Hills lacrosse team.
‣ His jersey number for the lacrosse team is 7.
‣ He will be a big part of the show.
Mason (Khylin Rhambo - Heavily Recurring):
‣ An out-and-proud athlete (he will not be joining the lacrosse team), who is described as funny, witty and handsome. He also will be the best friend of BHHS’s new star lacrosse player (Liam).
‣ He will be a big part of the show.
Brett (Cody Saintgnue):
‣ A rival lacrosse player from Liam’s old school.
‣ He will play an important role in Scott becoming an alpha of his own.
Violet (Recurring Guest Star):
‣ She’s a pretty 16-year-old high schooler who is very unassuming…but she’s a lot tougher than we’d think.
Dr. Geyer (Recurring Guest Star):
‣ Intelligent and athletic; He is a respected hospital administrator as well as an admired, great step-dad.
Ms. Fleming (Recurring Co-Star):
‣ She is the brusque, no-nonsense high school math teacher.
Deputy Haigh:
‣ He’s the kind of cop that will definitely give you a ticket after pulling you over; no matter what the circumstance (he’s basically a dick).
Fahey:
‣ A hired gun that is in his late 30s and described as “frightened, yet masculine.”
Dr. Vallack (Potentially Recurring):
‣ A “distinguished” gentleman with a unique ability to “unlock the mystery of a disappearance”.
Joseph Gatt (Character Name Unknown):
‣ He will be playing a cool, dark and creepy character (muted individual from the promo/trailer).
‣ He made such an impression that they brought him back for more.
Glenn McCuen (Character Name Unknown):
‣ He will be appearing in 4.03.
‣ Describes his character as a nice guy that is in a lot of pain (character starts of as nice and then we will learn more about him, it’s complicated).
Relationships (Friendship/Family/Romantic):
The Hales:
‣ According to Alyssa, we will be learning more about them, in some really interesting ways.
‣ Peter will work on his relationship with Derek more this season.
‣ According to Ian, Derek will help Peter when he has the chance to let him die.
‣ According to Hoechlin, his favorite scene with Ian is in 4.04 or 4.05.
The McCalls:
‣ Scott and his mother live in a house that was given to her by her parents that has all the problems of a big house (cause of financial troubles).
‣ There will be some really pivotal moments this season that will come from his father.
‣ According to Posey, they didn’t want to make Scott and Rafael the stereotypical father-son relationship (e.g. I hate my dad). Furthermore, they really had fun playing with it and taking it to new levels (it’s awesome).
The Stilinskis:
‣ According to Dylan, they will be more of a detective duo rather than father and son this season, but they are in a good place.
‣ Stiles (and his father) will be dealing with bills from Eichen House and the MRI they can’t quite pay for (cause of financial troubles).
The Yukimuras:
‣ They will be delving more into their history.
‣ According to Jeff, there is a great Yukimura scene coming up. They found that they have a lot of humor together, so they are doing some fun stuff with the Yukimura family.
The Pack (Scott/Stiles/Lydia/Kira/Malia):
‣ They will be trying to help Malia re-assimilate back into society.
‣ They will also intentionally not tell her about Peter in an effort to protect her. Their struggle is knowing that they have to tell her, but not knowing how because, if they do, she’s going to go to him and he gets inside people’s heads, which they are worried about. What they are trying to do in the beginning is make sure she has all the self-control and power to resist him.
‣ A member of the pack will go missing and only one man can track them down.
Scott/Stiles:
‣ They will be back together as the pairing that the show revolves around (according to Jeff, they are so good together).
‣ They really wanted to bring back their friendship from Season 1, but see how it has grown.
‣ According to Dylan, we can expect more buddy buddy scenes between the two of them.
Scott/Kira:
‣ There is more planned for them.
‣ Their relationship will grow (it will not be solidified at the beginning of this season; will have to stumble a little a first and they will have fun playing with it).
‣ They will be taking things slow (Kira won’t know what to do since she doesn’t know how much space to give Scott and Scott won’t know what to do either since he wants to be a gentleman and respect the girl he loved who is now dead, but he’s also a teenager and falling in love).
‣ Scott won’t even know what his relationship with Kira is because she has been giving him space even though they want to be together.
‣ Jeff described their relationship as a romantic comedy and that they are so fun together.
‣ According to Posey, they will kick a lot of ass together. Furthermore, whether or not their relationship works out, they will remain friends and kickass friends who are like a part of the pack (that relationship is really strong even if their romantic relationship doesn’t seem as strong, it is still there).
‣ According to Arden. one of Kira’s weak spots this season will definitely be anytime that Scott is in danger since he’s the leader of the pack and someone she cares so much about and possibly loves, although she might not know what that really means yet.
Scott/Derek:
‣ According to Posey, we will see more of the mentor-mentee relationship between them.
‣ According to Hoechlin, they have some really cool scenes this season.
Stiles/Derek:
‣ According to Hoechlin, they don’t have a lot of interaction this season.
Stiles/Lydia:
‣ They will be a detective team again.
Stiles/Malia:
‣ We will have to wait to see where they are in the first episode.
‣ Their relationship will be interesting/strange.
‣ They won’t even know how to describe their relationship (Stiles won’t know if they are dating or not).
‣ There will be some growing feelings between the two.
‣ They will spend a lot of time together this season.
‣ According to Dylan, Malia is kind of Stiles’ protector and he thinks they have some really sweet moments together this season.
‣ According to Jeff, their journey is definitely romantic, but it won’t be easy since Stiles has never really had a girlfriend and Malia still has a bit of wild creature inside of her (they won’t know what they are doing). They know they are attracted to each other, but once they start trying to put a label on it, things get more complicated. Furthermore, Jeff mentioned that Dylan and Shelley have great chemistry together and that they are funny together.
Scott/Stiles/Derek:
‣ According to Jeff, he thinks we will see much stronger relationship between them this season and since they are good together, they will see where that takes them.
Scott/Stiles/Liam:
‣ Liam will be like Scott and Stiles’ little brother, who is a pain in the ass.
Liam/Mason:
‣ They will serve as a mirror to Scott and Stiles and Scott and Stiles will think they are idiots, but they were exactly like them in S1.
Lydia/Kira/Malia:
‣ There will be friendship developing between them.
‣ According to Jeff, they now have three strong female characters (Lydia, Kira, and Malia) that they have fallen in love with in the writers’ room and seeing the girls form strong bonds with each other and seeing them in action together is something they are really excited for (they all have great chemistry together).
‣ According to Arden, Malia and Kira definitely have a friendship that is growing. They have a lot in common since they are going through changes together and are dating these guys that they are kind of unsure about their relationships with (it’s very black and white since Stiles and Malia are passionate and that they are just going for it, while her and Scott are kind of tepid).
Lydia/Stiles/Malia:
‣ Stiles will have to figure out his feelings for Lydia and Malia.
‣ Jeff isn’t a huge fan of love triangles, but if it’s good conflict they will go for it (in regards to a potential triangle between Malia/Stiles/Lydia - they will see where things fall with that trio).
‣ According to Dylan, Stiles is more mature this season, which we will see in his relationship with Malia and the feelings he is sort of able to let go for Lydia.
