Mad Men S&S: What do women want? A box of kisses of course!

About the Show: Credit ctv.ca

Set in 1960 on New York City's Madison Avenue, Mad Men is a daring new series about the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Big Apple advertising. The series depicts the sexual exploits and social mores of this most innovative yet ruthless profession, while taking an unflinching look at the ad-men who shaped the hopes and dreams of Americans on a daily basis.

Mad Men has already been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, for "Best Series, Drama" and for "Best Actor in a TV Drama" (Jon Hamm). Hamm was also recently nominated for a SAG Award for "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role" while the entire cast was nominated for "Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series."

Mad Men has taken the critics by storm, landing on dozens of Top 10 lists including those from the American Film Institute and Entertainment Weekly. The Toronto Star named it the #1 TV series of the year and The Globe and Mail noted it was the "great and pleasant surprise of the year."

Here are the Spoilers we've found so far and put on the TV Board thread.

Mad Women: Sexy Joan may have some competition in season two. Sources tell me a 22-year-old named Jane, who bares quite a resemblance to Joan (just younger), will join the show this year. Hey, jealousy!

"Duck (Mark Moses) is now head of accounts. Pete (Vincent Kartheiser) is in accounts limbo and Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) is a junior copywriter. Don is still partner and creative director," says Weiner, who wrote for The Sopranos. The company has undergone some change: "You'll feel that right away from the first episode. You will know that something different has happened."

Rather than picking up right where last year's finale left off — with Don alone and estranged from his family on Thanksgiving 1960, wife Betty on the verge of a nervous breakdown, nemesis Pete drowning his marital and professional sorrows in booze, and recently promoted secretary Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) giving birth to a baby she had no idea she was carrying — the new season jumps forward in time a bit, but not so far into the future that fans won't recognize the show.

Pete keeps trying to climb the corporate ladder, but whether or not he knows he's the father of Peggy's baby is a question that no one is willing to answer. ''I cannot say,'' Moss, 25, says with an apologetic giggle. ''If I did, I'd be dragged out of here by my ponytail!'' Kartheiser, 29, is no help either, offering only a mock-incredulous response: ''I can't believe you're actually coming to our set and trying to get juice out of us.''

Duck Phillips (Mark Moses), the new head of account services who beat Pete out of a promotion last season, has reached out to the young exec by offering him, as Weiner cryptically puts it, ''something that turns out to be bad for Don. Pete is not comfortable with it.'' Looking perturbed, Pete goes to Don's office for advice. ''It's not a good time, Campbell!'' Don growls. Poor Pete. Rejected again.

The first season of the critically acclaimed booze-and-smoke-soaked look at the 1960s advertising world revealed that hero Don Draper (Jon Hamm) was actually Dick Whitman, who had stolen the identity of a dead soldier. Season 2 opens a few years later and "Don Draper has survived but Dick Whitman is struggling," creator Matthew Weiner says. Cracks are forming in Don's picture-perfect marriage to Betty as she deals with his infidelity. Meanwhile at the office, a new arrival (Mark Moses) causes a stir at the agency. And the former affair between partner Roger Sterling and office tootsie Joan is turning into a "new kind of dance", "Hendricks says.

Hey all! I noticed there wasn't a thread for this show and of course I was flabbergasted since it is the most original show I've EVER seen and is currently my favourite show of all time. You can find clips on amctv.com, or in Canada, watch full episodes on ctv.ca

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Um, no.

But thanks for starting a spoiler thread for the show.

I put this thread under Jess' list to monitor, btw.

CheEsecAKe&BRUCAS I was super surprised to see this thread here. Generally I'm not a spoilers person but for this and FNL I'm making an exception. You should come visit our Mad Men thread on the Television board. There are only a few of there that talk about the show which is a shame. Anyways we'd love to see you. Especially with the DVDs out soon and of course Season 2 starting soon.

WOOT! Hunee you watch this show too? You have to catch up! It's sooooo good!

Nnenna, I'm offended! i hate potatoes! I strongly suggest you stop watching OTH and pick up this instead. It's technically what I did.

Enigma!! Yeah, I was a little hesitant to start this thread, considering the majority of the shows here are already a few seasons in or are CW shows. But, this show is fantastic, so I figured it deserved a thread.

I didn't even know there was a tv general board here!! This is my favourite show at the moment, so i'm definitely going to be making a pit stop there. Question, do you know what date the s1 DVD is coming out?

It definitely deserves a thread. Not that there's usually many spoilers. But, whatever bit we get, I'll be happy.

Yep, there is. And here's the Mad Men thread. Here

The Season 1 DVD is out next week! July 1st.

This is definitely my fave show right now.

Wow, the DVD's are coming out so close to the new season! And yeah, I figured there wont be many spoilers, but we could definitely speculate. I'm actually really worried that Betty's going to do something drastic during the thanks given vacation. The ending scene with Don was heartbreaking, and I found it foreshadowing that its going to get a hell of a lot worse. (not the he doesn't deserve it). But even though I watched every episode I'm still getting the DVD. I heard there was a lot of deleted scenes.

Nnenna, you TOTALLY have to see this! I stopped watching OTH after s4e2. Exactly then. And Mad Man is...dare i say? Much MUCH better than Gossip Girl? Don't hurt me. but it's true. If you live in the states, you can watch full episodes on amctv.com. In Canada? ctv.ca. Though there are only 2 episodes out for now.

And I like fries...not potatoes...mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, sweet potatoes...not my cup of tea. Or, side dish, as it were.

I'm so over OTH.........especially with what I'm hearing about the new season. Gossip Girl has definitely taken the place of OTH for me.

Yep, the DVDs and the premier in the same month.

I can't wait for all the deleted scenes.

The quality of Mad Men is better than any show out there. I can't say that enough. Everything about it is impeccable. I watch alot of TV and like/love alot of shows, but nothing touches Mad Men. I highly recommend it.

I had posted a couple of tiny spoilers on the TV thread. I'll see about digging them up and bringing them over here.

Bah hum buck. Nothing about Betty. I wonder how far in the future they're gonna go? Do you think it'll be in terms of years or months?

There was something about Betty riding horses or something but I can't remember the exact spoiler or where I saw it. Also something about their marriage being on rocky ground. If I find where I saw them I'll bring them over.

I think they said a couple of years.

Promos would be cool.

Awe man, I wanted to see how Don would react to Betty knowing about his affairs.
Seriously though, when was DB's marriage not on the rocks?
And call me crazy, but Betty riding horses reminds me strangely of Gone With The Wind....
Nnenna, you are soooo gonna thank me later. There are clips on youtube to get you started.
