I was trying to look at the situation without that happening since it is just a guess. From the pictures, I can easily see Zoe and Earl being trapped together or at least together when the fire happens. In season 2, Zoe believed she had feelings for George again before she choked on the donut hole.

IMO it doesn't. If that is the only thing behind it no thank you. I find that totally ridiculous.

The parallel is being put in a life or death situation. Being in a fire is real. Choking on a donut is ridiculous.

At this point we don't have anything else that explains how Zoe realizes she loves Wade. And even with the fire if it parallels last season only in the life or death situations, Zoe believed she had feelings for George prior to the donut incident. It was just the donut incident and the talk with Brick that prompted her to go to George and tell him she loved him. I'm still missing how Zoe ever realizes she loves Wade prior to the finale.

I think Earl will have to have a hand in it too. He's a schemer himself, so I wouldn't be surprised at a fake date and a little extra push of some kind.

Maybe somewhere amidst all these messes there will be an honest conversation between Z/W, mainly about when Wade said I love you and she left. I think them talking honestly might lead to giving us something about what's going in Zoe's head right now.

An ILY being the result of a crisis or a rush of adrenaline is no good. Would it even be sincere?

I hope they don't go that route unless we see some things from Zoe in the episodes before that, which I doubt we will, but who knows maybe 319 and 320 will surprise us.

Hopefully they'll give us something - I can see her really thinking about her regrets and what she could have lost/a dangerous situation resulting in an ILY. She's also less scared of being alone (which was what prompted the ridiculous donut scene) but I'd like to see a flicker of her feelings before then.

I think Earl is on a "date" with Zoe. I could see Zoe suggesting a practice run. Just knowing how to act on a date could be something Earl would have to learn again.

Also Wade is probably both mad at Zoe for disregarding his wishes which led to disaster and relieved they a both okay (as in not seriously injured).

Remember this episode is mostly one day.

I could see Zoe wanting to go tell Wade something about her feelings and then Joel appears. I don't see how Joel fits in until after the fire.

Not only does it parallel 2x20 it also parallels 2x10. Zoe getting Earl to do something that Wade thought no good would come from it and we all know what happened there.
I have this weird thing called optimism that we will get something from Zoe tonight. I don't see her and Lemon talking about Joel. I don't see Lemon even wanting to hear about that subject. I can't wait for the conversation between the two of them and I would find it weird for her to bring up that subject with Wade's best friend.

I like the idea of Zoe practicing dating skills with Earl. I agree that it's hard to see where Joel would fit in before the fire. Just get in the way again no doubt, if he was there.
