Smallville S7 S&S #11: There's a new girl in town and she's not playing by any rules!

Offical CW write-up for s7!
Returning for its seventh season, this new interpretation of the enduring Superman mythology and its classic characters blends realism and adventure into an exciting action series. Fourteen years ago, a meteor shower burst from the heavens, raining destruction on the unsuspecting citizens of Smallville, Kansas. From the ashes of tragedy, emerged Clark Kent. Struggling to come to grips with his emerging superpowers, while battling the strange events that have plagued this idyllic Midwest hamlet since the meteor shower, Clark slowly learns to embrace his destiny. SMALLVILLE chronicles Clark's journey toward becoming the Man of Steel and his relationships with girl-next-door Lana Lang, future love Lois Lane and soon-to-be arch-nemesis Lex Luthor.

The series stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Erica Durance as Lois Lane, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan, John Glover as Lionel Luther and Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen. Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar

Smallville Season 7 Write-Up: Take Two!
Now beginning its seventh season, this new interpretation of the enduring Superman mythology and its classic characters blends realism and adventure into an exciting action series. This season, Clark Kent (Tom Welling, "Cheaper By the Dozen") and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum, "Kickin' It Old Skool") have become the sworn enemies that comic book aficionados have always known and loved.

Season seven brings exciting guest stars from the Superman mythology, including Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark") and Helen Slater ("Supergirl"), plus storylines of Krypton and the El family. This season Clark will discover more about his home planet, who his parents were, what his future holds and why he was sent to Earth.

In last season's finale, Lana (Kristin Kreuk, "Partition") confronted Lex over his lies about the baby, confessed she was still in love with Clark and told Lex she was leaving him. Lana turned to Clark for comfort but when she revealed that Lionel (John Glover, "Brimstone") forced her to marry Lex, Clark went after Lionel to stop his machinations once and for all. However, Martian Manhunter (guest star Phil Morris) stepped in to explain Lionel is on their side and together they've been working to stop Lex from finding the last Phantom Zone escapee as Lex needs the wraith's DNA to fuel his army of super soldiers. Meanwhile, Lois (Erica Durance, "The Butterfly Effect 2") had her own agenda for bringing Lex down and snooped around his base at Reeves Dam. When an armed guard confronted her, Lois was stabbed and left for dead. She called Chloe (Allison Mack, "The Ant Bully") for help, but her cousin arrived too late and found Lois. As a despondent Chloe clutched Lois, her latent meteor power was revealed. Chloe healed Lois, but took on her wounds and collapsed. Lana's car exploded when she tried to leave town, and the police confronted Lex at the dam and arrested him for murder. The wraith attacked Clark, creating Clark's ultimate enemy - Bizarro. The two super men fought and their struggle caused Reeves Dam to break, flooding the area and leaving everyone in peril.

This season Clark will face his biggest battles yet. Bizarro is intent on destroying him as only one of them can survive. Clark has also lost the love of his life to a horrific accident; his adoptive mother Martha (Annette O'Toole, "Superman II") has left for Washington; and the biggest trial for Clark comes in the form of his nineteen-year-old female cousin, Kara AKA Supergirl (newcomer Laura Vandervoort).

When the dam broke, Kara's spaceship was released from the earth. She had been in suspended animation for years, having in fact left Krypton as a teenager with the intent to look after young Kal-El after he arrived on Earth. However, as she didn't age when inside the ship, she now finds herself younger than her cousin and he's now the one looking after her. Kara is fascinated with Earth's culture and has difficulty remembering to hide her powers from the world. Her youthful abandon puts her in several precarious situations that land her in hot water and directly onto Lex's radar.

Lana's death appears to have made Lex reevaluate his life. He willingly goes to jail for the murder of his wife and begins to help those in need instead of exploiting them. The secret army has been dissolved, but he begins a new fixation on Kara and her ship, although he doesn't immediately realize the two are connected. Lex also continues his awkward relationship with his father Lionel. Neither trusts each other and Lex is all too aware that Lionel has many secrets and had a part in taking down Lex's secret army. The two cunning Luthors continue to circle each other warily, each waiting for the other to make a move that could prove the end for father or son.

Another who doubts Lex's new charitable attitude is Lois Lane. After the harm the secret army caused her family and friends, Lois has sworn to find a way to bring the billionaire down. Lois also takes a big step in her career when the new Daily Planet editor Grant Gabriel (guest star Michael Cassidy) is charmed by her take-no-prisoners attitude and hires her as his star reporter. While jumping at the chance to show off her investigative reporter skills, Lois feels bad about stealing some of her cousin Chloe's limelight.

As if competing with Lois for the new Daily Planet editor's attention wasn't bad enough, Chloe discovers that in addition to hiding Clark's true identity from the world, she must also now cover up her own secret. She fears confessing her new power to Jimmy (Aaron Ashmore, "The Christmas Cottage") as she believes it will drive him away. However, her continued evasiveness about her investigative stories and her relationship with Clark leads Jimmy to believe he and Chloe may not be the destined duo he thought they could be and he begins to look at Kara in a new light. As much as she's also prodded Clark to confess his secret to Lana over the years, Chloe finds that when it comes down to it, she can't tell Jimmy she's meteor-infected and realizes this may cause her to lose him forever.

Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, "Smallville" was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar ("Shanghai Noon," "Spiderman 2"), based on the DC Comics characters. Gough and Millar serve as executive producers, along with Ken Horton, Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer, James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television. SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Episode #7-5: Action Air Date: Oct 25, 2007

Written By: Caroline Dries
Directed By: Mairzee Almas

CW's Offical Description: Action CHRISTINA MILIAN GUEST STARS — The residents of Smallville are thrilled when “Warrior Angel,” a movie based on a comic book, begins shooting in town. However, after the lead actress, Rachel Davenport (guest star Christina Milian) takes off in stunt car with cut brakes, Clark (Tom Welling) must step in to stop the runaway car. Unfortunately, an obsessed fan witnesses this heroic event and decides Clark is a real life superhero, whose girlfriend Lana (Kristin Kreuk) must be eliminated so Clark can fulfill his destiny. Meanwhile, Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) discovers Lionel (John Glover) at the cabin. Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Aaron Ashmore, Laura Vandervoort and John Glover also star. Mairzee Almas directed the episode written by Caroline Dries

- UPDATED 10/3/07 (Thanks T.F.): Grant sends Lois to Smallville to cover the "Warrior Angel movie" story. Lois, however, has her eyes on a different, more scandalous piece involving the Luthors.
- As a token of thanks for his actions, Clark is given a prop from the movie... Warrior Angel's red cape.
UPDATED 8/22/07 New spoilers thanks to S.A.M. @ TWOP:
In " Action" we will meet Ben, a production asst. on the Warrior Angel film. He glimpses Clark grabbing a bullet meant for the star of the film, and tells Clark he owes it to the world to use his powers. Could he be the crazed fan who is trying to kill the female lead?
Also, poor Lionel is being held against his will in an isolated cabin.
Though this is odd, I did not make this up. Lionel is being held by a strange woman named Marilyn. It starts out very 'Misery' like with Lionel being shackled to the bed and sedated. Lionel does manage to escape but is struck in the head while running thru the woods. Its not Marilyn who hits him though, it's Lana, who has been paying Marilyn to keep Lionel in the cabin.
Lionel is saved by Lex even after Lionel accuses him of being the one who did it. Before they get away though, Marilyn pulls a gun on them. Before she can shoot either she is struck in the head (two concussions in one eps.!) by Lois, who had been following Lex. Kara is not in this eps.
UPDATED 8/13/07: The list of "roles being cast" that we originally had for "Action" is actually for the episode "Lara." Our apologies for the mistake!
UPDATED 8/11/07: The life of the lead actress in a Warrior Angel movie is in danger. It sounds like some fans on the internet might not like her so much, because her character was not supposed to be a part of the Warrior Angel comic books at that point in his career.
There is a lot of meta-humor in this one, including a lead actor who tells his bosses that they promised him "no masks, no flights!"
Laura Vandervoort (Kara) does not appear in this episode.
UPDATED 8/10/07: Lionel Luthor returns in this episode.
This episode involves the filming of a movie based on the Warrior Angel comic books. (Thanks T.F.!)
- UPDATED 10/3/07 (Thanks T.F.): Grant sends Lois to Smallville to cover the "Warrior Angel movie" story. Lois, however, has her eyes on a different, more scandalous piece involving the Luthors.

Episode #7-6: Lara Air Date: Nov. 1, 2007

See some promotional images for the episode here
Guest Stars: Helen Slater (Lara), Laura Vandervoort (Kara), Kevin Sorbo (Zor-El; unconfirmed)

CW Offical Descripton for "Lara"
FEATURE FILM SUPERGIRL HELEN SLATER FLIES INTO SMALLVILLE AS LARA KENT — Clark (Tom Welling) learns Kara (Laura Vandervoort) is in Washington searching for the crystal. Kara is captured after she breaks into the lab and sedated with a kryptonite-infused truth serum. The serum causes her to relive a prior trip to Earth when she followed Clark’s biological mother, Lara (gust star Helen Slater), to the Kent farm. Clark arrives in time to save her but, after searing the machine with heat vision, he also falls victim to the serum and sees what Kara sees: his mother.

Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Aaron Ashmore and John Glover also star. James Conway directed the episode written by Don Whitehead & Holly Henderson (#3T6305).

UPDATED 9/2/07: The role of Zor-El might be played by Kevin Sorbo of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys fame, though this has not yet been confirmed. (See Rumorville for more)
A red and blue blur (Kara) is reported to be seen over the Washington, D.C. skyline, though before you get excited, she isn't there to see Martha Kent.
Kara is kidnapped by a government agent who has realized the connection between her and her crashed ship.
Chloe discovers a secret that Lana is keeping from Clark.
UPDATED 8/14/07 (Thanks S.A.M.!): Some government agents have an aquamarine crystal in their possession. The crystal came from Kara's ship. While they are studying it, an intrigued Lex enters the lab.
UPDATED 8/13/07: Roles now being cast for the episode include a Hallwell Guard, Lead Tech, Manager, and Kevin. No title for this episode is known at this time.
Erica Durance (Lois) does not appear in this episode.
UPDATED 8/9/07: This one is called "Lara," and according to S.A.M., we'll also see Kara's father, Zor-El, in this episode.
UPDATED 8/5/07: One-time Supergirl Helen Slater guest stars as "Supergirl's aunt," which we can only take to mean that she is playing Lara, Clark's Kryptonian mother.

"Lara" Scoop from TV Guide

Mom of Steel
On the heels of Dean Cain's guest spot, another actor with ties to the Man of Steel mythos lands in Smallville (THE CW, 8/7c) when 1984's big-screen "Supergirl," Helen Slater, begins a two-episode arc as Clark's Kryptonian mom, Lara. "You know how people love this kind of stuff," enthuses Slater, adding that we first see a pregnant Lara in Superlore-tweaking flashbacks set on her doomed home planet. "After learning that Krypton is going to be destroyed, I go through a portal to Smallville to see where my baby will be raised...because [my husband] Jor-El has already been to Earth and picked the Kents to be Clark's family." In a passing-of-the-torch moment, Supermom makes the trip with her niece Kara, aka Supergirl. And it's a good thing, too, because what the two ladies learn in the past may be Clark's only hope for a future after someone else from his bloodline shows up in two weeks for what Slater describes as an "intense, highly stylized episode."

Episode #7-7: "Wrath" Air Date: November 8, 2007

Guest Stars: Michael Cassidy (Grant Gabriel)

Find promo images HERE

UPDATED 9/10/07 (Thanks T.F.!): Thanks to an accident, Lana has Clark's powers!
Clark learns what Lana has been hiding from him.
Lana behaves a bit recklessly with this power and her behavior disturbs both Lex and Clark. Could the honeymoon already be over?
The power-transference inspires a mention of Eric Summers, though sadly, Jimmy's not around to hear about his lookalike, as Aaron Ashmore is not in this episode.
Don't expect Kara to save the day in this one, either... Laura Vandervoort is also not in this episode.

Episode #7-8: "Blue" Air Date: November 15, 2007

Guest Stars: Laura Vandervoort (Kara), Michael Cassidy (Grant Gabriel), Helen Slater (Lara)

UPDATED 9/25/07: One-time Supergirl Helen Slater returns for her second appearance as Lara in this episode.
UPDATED 9/18/07: Title Posted. Please do not repost this on other websites without a link to KryptonSite.com.
One of the high-profile guest stars that has already been announced for Season Seven makes a return appearance in this episode.
Clark encounters a new color of kryptonite in this episode.

Episode #7-9: "Gemini" Air Date: Dec. 13 (?), 2007

UPDATED 9/26/07: "Gemini" is not so much of a holiday episode per se, though story elements pertaining to the holidays do occur this time around. It's a backgound part of the story kind of like how the holidays fit in to the first Die Hard or Lethal Weapon movies.
There are some very big revelations in this episode, including the return of a foe from the past. (No, not Brainiac - he's coming later)
Look for some changes for at least one of Smallville's Season 7 couples in this one. (For those of you keeping track at home, those couples include Clark/Lana, Lois/Grant, Chloe/Jimmy, and Jimmy/Kara)
- UPDATED 10/3/07 (Thanks T.F.!): Chloe and Jimmy are stuck on an elevator with a bomb, and Jimmy really doesn't understand why Chloe uses her one phone call to contact Clark.
- The "Gemini" in this title refers to a new experiment Lex is working on, much like Project: Ares and Project: Mercury before it.
- This episode has enough twists, turns, and surprises, you'd swear it was a season finale.
- Laura Vandervoort (Kara) does not appear in this episode.

Episode #7-10: "Persona"
Guest Stars: James Marsters (Brainiac), Michael Cassidy (Grant Gabriel)

- UPDATED 10/9/07 (Thanks T.F.): Clark is so happy about his relationship with Lana that he tells her he feels like he could fly.
- James Marsters returns as Milton Fine/Brainiac in this episode. (That is, unless he appears sooner than that...)
- Lex has a major new business venture.
- There is another Kryptonian hidden somewhere on Earth, posing as a human as their alien nature has been taken away. Something like Professor Yana on Doctor Who, it sounds like.

Episode #7-11: Siren Air Date: January 2008

- UPDATED 10/11/07: Smallville creator Al Gough tells TV Guide that Chloe will be "in quasi-Watchtower mode around Episode 11."
"You'll discover that she is still doing odd jobs for Oliver and the gang on the side," Gough says. Perhaps this is the episode where Oliver Queen finally returns?
-The Black Canary appears in this episode (hence, the "Siren"), and yes, Oliver Queen is back too.

UPDATED 9/26/07: James Marsters will be returning as Brainiac for four episodes beginning in January. No further details are known at this time!

Latest Chat with E!'s Kristen revealed some interesting spoilers

Jake from Seattle: Smallville spoilers?

While the new editor in chief of the Daily Planet seems like the picture of perfection, you might want to think again. There's something dark behind those pearly whites.

James from Chicago: Any scoop on Supergirl from Smallville?
Kara, aka Supergirl, and the Martian Manhunter are both aware of each other from the past and they, to say the least, are anything but friends.

Sam from Walnut Creek, California: Smallville?
Sources tell me there is a showdown between Kara and someone very close to Clark's heart (Lana).

David from Huntington Beach, California: Any scoop on Smallville?
When Lana returns to Smallville, she will be making the Kent farm her permanent residence.

Trisha from Seattle: Give me some Clana scoop!
Look for some Clana kissing soon after Clark finds out Lana is alive. Also, look for a little Lana jealousy to rear its ugly head around episode five, when Clark becomes friendly with a beautiful actress.

From Ausiello:

Question: I've heard rumors that Clark and Chloe will share a lip-lock early on in the season on Smallville. True or false? — Meg
Ausiello: It's true… about the rumors, anyway. Unfortunately, exec producer Al Gough isn't confirming or denying 'em. He did, however, tell my colleague Damian Holbrook that "Lois is going to get a job at the 'Planet,' which puts her in contention with Chloe." Gough also spilled some super-scoop on this season's Clana reunion: "She knows the secret, all the cards are on the table, so we're going to play their relationship honestly. But now that she's been married to Lex and that relationship has scarred her, the question becomes, 'What sort of secrets is she bringing to the relationship?' You will definitely see some reversals. You'll definitely see a darker Lana."

Dean Cain Interview!

SUPERMAN RETURNS!
Man Of Steel, meet...Man Of Steel? Sort of. Former Lois &Clarkcape waver Dean Cain flies back into the comic-book scene on October 18 for a visit toSmallville. But this time around, he will be leaving the heriocs on Tom Welling, television's current Clark Kent.

"I'm pretty evil," the 41-year-old Cain says, laughing, of his role as Dr. Curtis Knox, a neurosurgeon who, despite working for Lex Luthor, has "sort of good intentions. He's cured many meteo-infected patients." What that means for Allison Mack's Chloe-who possesses the kryptonite-fueled ability to heal people-is one of the episode's big secerts, but Cain hints that Knox"has romance on his mind, [just] not the way you may think." Executive Producer Al Gough cryptically elaborates that "Knox falls for parts of Chloe."

By the episode's end, the door will open for more visits from Cain. Knox"is going to have an ax to grind with Clark," Gough say. "He is definitely someone who could back and cause problems in the future."

Not that landing Cain for this present gig was a breeze."Frankly, we've been looking for a role for Dean since Season 4," Gough says. " Because of Dean's connection to Superman, we wanted to make sure we had something worthy of him being in the show." Apparently, Knox fit the bill. " They told me about the character," Cain says. " I liked the script, it sounded fun, and you know, I like to perpetuate the whole Superman mythos," he says.

Of coarse, things aren't so Lois & Clark campy in this neck of the superwoods. "The tone of the this show is entirely different," Cain admits. " It takes a second to get into their world...It's very a different world, one that I hadn't been part of." Would he be more comfortable, perhaps, chilling out with L&Ccostar Terri Hatcher over on Desperate Housewives? "I don't really watch that show," he confesses. " But if there was something fun to do, I would never say never to anything."

That's good, because arranging a reunion between Cain and Hatcher on Smallville would surely take more than the CW budget could handle. Says Gough: " We always joke that we should have done that in the first three seasons, when she was avaliable.!"

Exclusive! James Marsters Returning to Smallville

Just a little giddy good news to help ring in the new season of Smallville, which starts tomorrow night.

Reliable insiders tell me—and the CW confirms—that James Marsters (swoon, Buffy's Spike) is returning for four episodes of the superseries during the new season.

We last saw Marsters's character, Dr. Milton Fine (aka Brainiac), in Smallville's fifth season finale.

While it's unclear exactly how James is returning, I can tell you he's reprising the exact same character, he's returning to set very soon and his episodes begin airing in January. He also appears on CBS' Without a Trace this season.

'Tis good news, no? If you're happy and you know it, sound off in the Comments section below!

And don't forget to tune in to Smallville tomorrow night.

September 25, 2007: Exclusive Interview with Helen Slater

Superman Homepage staff writer Jeffrey Bridges caught up with Helen Slater at the recent LA Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention, and asked her about "Supergirl", her up-coming appearance on "Smallville", and more...

Q: You did voiceover work as Talia on "Batman: The Animated Series" and are going to be on "Smallville" this season. You realize that now the fans will never let you go.

Helen: (Laughs) The fans have this... encyclopedic knowledge that's really extraordinary. This is only the second one of these [conventions] I've done, but now I can really appreciate the impact it has on the fans.

Q: And "Smallville" this season, how many episodes are you doing?

Helen: I've shot two so far, but there could always be more.

Superman Homepage

Allison Mack To Direct Episode #7-20!
It may be toward the end of the season but Allison Mack (Chloe) will soon have something new to add to her resume.

Allison has revealed on her official blog that she is scheduled to direct the 20th episode of Smallville's current season, giving herself a new challenge and becoming the fourth actor from the show to sit in the director's chair.

You can read more about this in Allison's blog.

Episode #7-20 should be airing in late April or early May.

Your Burning Smallville Questions Answered! (Part 1)

Is this the season Clark's story "gets off the ground"? Might Tom Welling join the big-screen Justice League? Does Lex have a top-secret partner in Supercrime? In this first of three installments, executive producer Al Gough fields TVGuide.com readers' burning questions about Smallville (Thursdays at 8 pm/ET, CW).

Are you still going to stick with your original "No Tights, No Flights" policy, considering how far we've come with the mythology and the fact that Supergirl [aka Kara, played by Laura Vandervoort] will be flying? — Salchan
Al Gough: Yes, we are sticking with that policy as far as Clark is concerned. (Obviously Bizarro can fly as well as Kara.) But following up on what Chloe said about his lack of flying in the season premiere ("Clark, you need to get on that"), Kara will be giving him "flying lessons" later in the season. Although with Clark, they end up being more like "falling lessons."

Can we get some clues as to who some of the other DC characters are that might appear on the show this year? Thanks, and awesome job with the show. I'm hooked every week. — smallvillefan213
Gough: I am glad you are hooked; that way, when I don't give you any new information, you will keep watching. Mwhahahaaha! Here's what I can say: You'll see Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, Bizarro, and the return of Brainiac and the Green Arrow... as well as a future hero to be named later!

Since there is going to be a JLA movie and [Superman Returns'] Brandon Routh and [Batman Begins'] Christian Bale are not going to be in it, is there any chance that Tom Welling and the rest of the gang from Smallville's own Justice League could be featured in the roles? — cooper2000
Gough: That, unfortunately, isn't how Hollywood works. You will see a brand-spanking-new group of actors donning the tights for that film. I heard it is under the direction of George (Mad Max) Miller, so I am personally very excited to see it.

Will Chloe go back to being "Watchtower" this year at all? I thought that was a great way to fit her into the Justice League storyline. I love the episodes where they are saving someone or just working together and taking care of business. — aenawa
Gough: We love those stories, too, and you will see Chloe in quasi-Watchtower mode around Episode 11. You'll discover that she is still doing odd jobs for Oliver and the gang on the side. Hey, a girl's got to pay the rent. Cub reporters don't make squat!

Will we get the opportunity to see Bizarro survive and join the Legion of Doom, which will become an opponent for the Justice League? — jaketheman5
Gough: You haven't seen the last of Bizarro, and the Legion of Doom is always a possibility. And in the words of Forrest Gump, that's all I've got to say about that!

Will there be a major character or at least a guest star playing a character on Lex's side? — kpjmm
Gough: Yes, at least they will start there. There may also be someone on the show who is currently on Lex's side and we don't know it yet. (Kids, fire up the TiVos and put on those thinking caps!)

Will the fake-baby storyline be explained properly? I thought it was a pretty desperate thing for Lex to do and a sad ending for Lex and Lana. — lexanarocked
Gough: It was a desperate and sad thing for him to do. However, the explanation was given — Lex didn't feel Lana would marry him for himself, so he faked the pregnancy to seal the deal, then stopped drugging her with hormones after the wedding, so she thought she had a miscarriage. Remember, gang, this is one of the reasons he becomes evil, because he is desperate for love that he cannot get from his father or from Lana.

I heard Clark and Lana will reconcile, yet the audience knows that Clark and Lana will not end up together. Why invest so much time and energy rehashing their relationship this late in the series? — caitiedid
Gough: You also know that Lex will become evil, that Clark becomes Superman, and that the two will be mortal enemies, yet you've been watching for seven seasons! The fact is, Clark loves Lana, and that is one of the central relationships of the show. She is that crucial first relationship that helps define him and his future relationships with women. The fact that he screws it up so badly, no matter how hard he tries, is one of the reasons he ends up with Lois. Remember, my young Padawan, our story is the journey, not the conclusion.

The character of Clark seems to have become increasingly marginalized over the last couple of seasons. When are you going to tell Clark's story of his journey toward becoming Superman? And why does the journey have so much pining for Lana in it? — Gigi_F
Gough: See answer above and below.

We've heard a lot about character arcs for Kara, Lois and Lex. I was wondering whether there was a specific arc for Clark, one independent of Lana's return, considering he is the central character. Right now he seems to be reacting a lot to other characters; it would be nice to see him take the initiative and to see Clark specifically being pushed forward for a change. — extrasolar
Gough: Clark's journey this season revolves around his struggle between his Kryptonian heritage and his earthly upbringing, and dealing with his cousin — which ain't easy! Kara will give him an insight into his family (which is seriously screwed up) and his birth planet (which went boom, so there was something seriously screwed up there as well). He will grapple with his past and his future. And now that Lana is back, will he finally realize that this relationship, no matter how hard he tries, is ultimately doomed? Stay tuned.

Excerpts from Al Gough's interview with Wizard Entertainment.

There were multiple cliffhangers in the Season 6 finale, so it’s hard to know where to start. The final scene was Clark Bizarro. Will he be just in the season premiere or will he be a recurring character?

GOUGH: He will not be a one-time villain. He will be a recurring menace on the show. He’ll appear to be vanquished in the season opener, but he’s not out of the picture.

Fans loved the “Justice” episode. Will we see the team again?

GOUGH: You’ll most likely see certain members of the Justice League. I doubt we’ll get them all together again. The plan would also be to try to introduce one or two new characters as well at some point in the season.

Wow. Can you say who?

GOUGH: I can’t. We’re still negotiating with DC.

Is this Michael Rosenbaum’s final season?

GOUGH: It’s his last season contractually. Our hope is that the show will go to an eighth season—which, by the way, would be the last for the series. The plan would also be to have Michael back, if not for all, then part of those episodes. These are early days in terms of those discussions. The plan is to go to eight seasons and the plan would be to have Michael.

You have a definite ending in sight for “Smallville”?

GOUGH: That would be Season 8. I think we got two seasons’ worth. Look, if we premiere and the numbers aren’t great and the network calls in December and says you have to wrap this up, we could. It wouldn’t be ideal, but we could. The plan would be to go to eight seasons.

To cause jealousy with Clark? Will he and Lois ever start admitting they like each other?

GOUGH: Probably not. They care about each other in their own way. If you think about it still at the end of the series, there’s an amount of time he goes off for his training and comes back. You can’t really push that relationship too far.

Wizard Entertainment

Excerpts from Al Gough's interview with Sci-Fi magazine.

"Whether it takes 22 or 44 episodes to do it, we're definitely moving towards an ending," says executive producer Alfred Gough. "So I think you're going to start to see certain storylines close up and certain characters we'll say goodbye to as the journey continues." One of those characters is Martha Kent.

Clark will also find out more about his life on Krypton as he firmly steps into his role as hero. "He's dealing with Lex, dealing with large Kryptonian villians like Bizarro. His dad's dead and his mom's moved to D.C., so he's really front and center now. And in many ways, other than Martian Manhunter, and to a certain extent Lionel, he doesn't really have anyone else to turn to, really, for counsel and advice."

As for Lex, look for him to get even darker this season, says Gough. "Initially he thinks he has a sort of religious experience and tries to put himself on the straight and narrow, but ultimately that doesn't really stick. He's up to no good again."

====================================

♦ No Lex in season eight! Michael Rosenbaum reveals, "I think next season will definitely happen. [...] Next year will be my last year. I had a great run. I loved it, but that will be it for me. I think other people have longer contracts. I’m not going to say who, but I know that next year is the last for me. So, it will be very sad when it happens, but all good things must come to an end." Source: Kristin on E!Online
♦ Watching over Kara is "another step in Clark's journey," creator Al Gough told TV Guide. "He's no longer in child mode. He's given responsibility over someone else."
♦ Kara has strength, speed, and X-ray vision... plus she can fly. "He's got to keep her out of trouble and make sure she doesn't use the abilities for the wrong reason," Gough says.
♦ Also in danger in Season 7? Lois. "They're still far from their romantic destiny, but you'll sense that they care for each other," Gough says. He says that Lois will become more of "the Lois Lane we know from the Superman mythology" as she continues to develop as a reporter, landing at the Daily Planet.
♦ Armed with the Planet's journalistic credibility, expect Lois to take on the Luthors. "This of course puts her in various stages of danger, much to Clark's chagrin," Gough says. "After all, hell hath no fury like a bald billionaire scorned."
♦ More on Lois.. She'll be in more than 13 episodes. (From nx1701g(who is supposed to be a good source) on TrekBBS)
♦ The Justice League may show up again, but Gough says that it will not be happening in the first eight or nine episodes of the season, and that they will most likely show up individually, rather than as a group. "And hopefully we can introduce some new members," Gough says.
♦ Michael Rosenbaum's contract ends with Season 7, so if there is an eighth year, it will be Clark vs. other villains. However, Michael COULD guest star.

Smallville's Supergirl Speaks

Laura Vandervoort, who will play Kara (aka Supergirl) on the seventh season of The CW's Smallville, told SCI FI Wire that her character will connect Clark (Tom Welling) like never before to his Kryptonian roots.

"It's great, because how it works is that on Krypton, I was older than him," Vandervoort said in an interview at Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 28. "He was a baby. We were both sent [to Earth], and I got trapped in suspended animation and didn't age. I come out of my ship looking for a baby, and see this 6-foot-3-inch beautiful man, and I don't believe that is him. It's an interesting dynamic, because he's older on Earth, and I'm older on Kypton. On Earth, he is telling me how to control my powers and be human and respect people. But I am explaining Krypton to him, things he didn't even know about his mother, who I was very close to."

Yet another Comic-Con recap

Smallville's Supergirl Meets the Fans

Cast and producers give new info for Smallville: Season 7 and talk about whether we'll ever see Batman or Wonder Woman.

The Comic-Con panel for Smallville was packed on Saturday night, proving that the series, going into its seventh season, maintains some very loyal fans. The event began with a special clip reel assembled for the convention that ran for several minutes, and took the audience on an exciting montage through the highlights and major storylines of the entire series so far.

This then led into several clips from brand new scenes from Season 7, which included intriguing glimpses of Lex Luthor with a terrible burn across his chest; Lionel Luthor looking like in a bad state himself; lying on what appeared to be a riverbank; Lois rushing Chloe to the hospital, and things looking grim for Chloe too; new face offs between Clark and Bizarro, who was introduced at the end of Season 6; and finally, the first-ever footage of Smallville's version of Supergirl/Kara. We see Clark find out that Kara (Laura Vandervoort) is his cousin and wonder why she seems more powerful than he does. As Kara puts it "Girls do mature faster than boys."

The panel then came onstage, including Smallville executive producers Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, Phil Morris ("Martian Manhunter"), Justin Hartley ("Green Arrow"), Erica Durance ("Lois Lane") and Vandervoort. Immediately it was acknowledged that both Morris and Hartley would be returning for guest appearances in Season 7. In addition, Gough announced "Dean Cain is going to be appearing on Smallville." The former Lois and Clark star will be in the fourth episode of the season "And he's going to be playing a bad guy."

Gough said the introduction of Supergirl was motivated when they thought about how Clark's father is dead and his mother is often in Washington D.C. and in some ways, right now "He doesn't have any family." In addition, meeting Kara "Gives him some insight into what happened on Krypton" and puts him into a mentor role. Gough said that Kara "is going to be a hand grenade" thrown into the show.

Vandervoort said she was very excited by the role of Kara, who is more advanced in her powers than her cousin and can fly, something Clark can't do as yet. In fact, she revealed "I actually had a flying scene last night."

Hartley said he loved filming last season's popular "Justice" superhero team-up episode, exclaiming "We're all grown men, and get to run around in costumes... outside of our home." Morris revealed he grew up a huge DC and Marvel Comics fan and so for him to play Martian Manhunter is "A complete and utter delight."

Durance said that in Season 7, she thinks Lois "Will be doing a lot more investigating." She'll also have a new love interest, as she goes to work at the Daily Planet. As for the Lois and Clark dynamic, who are still not even remotely a couple, she said she loved "Seeing what the journey is." She laughed, adding that it was okay with her not to have the lovey-dovey scenes with Clark yet because "I like fighting more!"

Vandervoort said that there was some tension between Kara and Lois, at least initially. Durance said she hoped eventually the characters can becomes friends, while Vandervoort explained "Kara first meets [Lois] and thinks she is a bit of a threat" and that she's just trying to be protective of herself and her cousin.

Millar addressed whether we'll ever see Bruce Wayne on Smallville, something fans have wanted for years. Millar bluntly announced "Unfortunately, it's not going to happen." The produced referenced discussions they had with Warner Bros, who seemed to feel audiences would get confused by alternate versions of the same characters appearing concurrently. Gough said they disagreed and that "our belief has always been that you can have Smallville and you can have the movies [at the same time]."

Gough explained "There was a decision made that once the Batman franchise was restarted in films, we wouldn't be able to use him." They did however stress how helpful Warner Bros. and DC have been about getting all the other comic book character guest spots on the series and Gough said that while it was a long shot "Never say never on Wonder Woman."

One audience member said they felt the show was well done and praised the cast, but added he'd had issues in recent seasons with the series changing traditional Superman continuity, such as Clark meeting Green Arrow, Lois, and others so early in his life. The producers again stressed that this was their take on the Superman story, and they weren't trying to replace any other. Gough pointed out that many aspects of the story, such as Lionel Luthor's role and the meteor shower Clark arrived in, had been different from the comic books since the debut of the series. Morris added that he felt the important thing was that the audience member did feel the show was well-done, and that as a fellow comic book fan, he felt the show was worthwhile as long as they kept the integrity and essence of the characters.

When a fan asked the question of how it's possible for Lex and Lois to know Clark so well without his glasses and then not recognize him as Superman in later years, Gough smiled and said that since the show won't ever show Clark in his costumed years, "Thankfully, that's a question we don't have to answer!"

The producers noted that Supergirl will be part of the series for the entire seventh season, and that Martian Manhunter will play a notable role in an early story arc. As for Green Arrow, Hartley will return around the middle of the season and he will be bringing "Some new and old members of the Justice League with him", tantalizing comics fans who now can speculate on what additional DC characters might be introduced soon on the series.

Smallville at Comic-Con: Al Gough, Miles Millar, and Erica Durance Speak!
By Craig Byrne

Before Smallville's panel at the Comic-Con International in San Diego, some of the attending cast and crew members participated in a brief press junket.

KryptonSite's Craig Byrne was one of the people able to speak with creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, Laura Vandervoort (Kara/Supergirl), and Erica Durance (Lois). Today, we take a look at what Smallville's creators, Gough & Millar, plus actress Erica Durance had to say... and come back tomorrow for some words with Laura Vandervoort.

For starters, Gough and Millar seem very impressed with the show's newest cast member, Laura Vandervoort. "She did a great job," Gough said about Laura's first day as Kara. "I was up there, and it was a scene with Clark and Chloe. It's hard, coming into an established series with an established cast, playing an iconic character. Erica had the same experience in Season 4, knowing that there's a lot of fan interest and curiosity about how it's going to work, but she's really great."

Gough reveals that the 1984 Supergirl movie does not inspire or affect the Smallville take on the character. "I don't think it affects what we're doing at all," Gough said. "I remember seeing it and being bored out of my tree, [even though] Jeannot Szwarc who's directed many episodes of Smallville directed it, and we certainly would do our damnedest to get Helen Slater onto the show this year."

Millar tells us that Kara's first appearance is in the season premiere. "How could she not be?" he enthused.

Gough and Millar were faced with the inevitable question of a Supergirl spin-off, and if there are any chances of it happening. "There's always a chance," Gough laughed, assuring that such decisions are up to the CW network. "They could have had Aquaman, they could have had the Green Arrow. Who knows."

Miles Millar added that the network could have also had a Lois Lane spin-off show if they had wanted one.

Another character to have a big year this year is Lois Lane, as played by Erica Durance. "Lois actually has a very interesting season," Gough said. "She is going to get hired by the Daily Planet, and there's a young editor who's been brought in to kind of age down the Planet. The Planet's kind of the gray lady of newspapers, and now they want a younger, hipper audience, so they bring in this guy whose name is Grant Gabriel, and he takes an interest in Lois. The editor likes her chutzpah and clearly has some sort of romantic interest in her as well, so they have a lot of good scenes. It's very Front Page, actually. It's two machine guns kind of going at it."

Gough and Durance also reveal that there will be scene in the season's second episode where Lois claims to have seen Kara's spaceship. Apparently the ship is seen, and then it is gone just as quickly. "Everyone thinks she's crazy," Erica said.

Justin Hartley will return as Oliver Queen for several episodes of the new season around the middle of the year. "He's somebody that Clark can go for help when he needs assistance," Miles Millar said. "He's definitely somebody that Clark can call on, and quite frankly, in the early seasons, the way he could call on Lex. Now he has a new billionaire boy, " Gough added.

Is Lois over Oliver? "Oh, yeah!" Erica Durance said enthusiastically, before being told of the creators' plans.

"Lois says she's over Oliver, but let me put it this way, when Lois and Oliver meet again, there's not going to be any doe-eyed, weeping Lois," Gough promised.

"What is that thing about a woman spurned?" Erica added.

Look for Season 7 to premiere on The CW September 27.

Green Arrow back on Smallville in s7
Justin Hartley's official site announced that he will be coming back to SV in S7 as a special guest star in the role of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. No details were given, but expect to see Justin on at least 2-3 SV episodes next season.

Confirmed at Comic Con. As well as that he might be bringing some old, and some new, JLA members back with him.

Dean Cain On Smallville... Finally!
It's the headline we've been waiting to post for 6 years...
Dean Cain will be appearing in the seventh season's fourth episode, "Cure," playing a doctor who we think is named Curtis Knox.

The possibly-villainous Dr. Knox has a special talent - he can "cure" someone from being a "meteor freak," forever changing their lives and rehabilitating them. This news, of course, is of special interest to Chloe. But Dr. Knox may have yet another secret which may mean his deeds aren't necessarily that good.

Dr. Knox is working for or with Lex Luthor, so expect some scenes between Dean and Michael Rosenbaum. He might also tie into the over-arcing Level 33.1 story.

Pay close attention to the initials of Curtis Knox, by the way.

New Daily Planet Editor to guest start on Smallville
Expect more turnover at the "Daily Planet" next season, when a new editor is added to the Smallville mix. He'll appear in six of the first eight episodes and, per my Super spy, will be a love interest for Lois Lane.

Sources confirm that Michael Cassidy (Hidden Palms, The O.C.) has scored the top job, replacing Carrie Fisher's barely visible Pauline Kahn. Cassidy will appear in at least six episodes and, as I reported in early June, his character is being groomed as a love interest for Lois Lane. Curiously, the role originally called for a thirtysomething actor. Cassidy, however, is a ripe 24. Wonder what that's about.

Cassidy's signing solidifies recent rumors. His character, Grant Gabriel, will be a hot-shot young editor who is brought in "to the get the gray out" of The Daily Planet and make it more accessible to younger readers. He will be featured in a seven-episode arc taking place in the first 10 episodes of Season 7.

ALFRED GOUGH SPEAKS ABOUT SUPERGIRL ON 'SMALLVILLE' - SEASON 7
LOCATION: Smallville

THE SKINNY: When iF got the word that Supergirl is going to be a part of Season Seven of SMALLVILLE, we couldn’t wait to find out more from co-creator and executive producer Alfred Gough.

In the Seventh Season premiere, Supergirl (whose name is Kara) will arrive. She’s Clark Kent’s 19-year old cousin and was born on Krypton. She is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El’s brother and she possesses all of Clark’s powers and one he doesn’t have yet – the ability to fly. She’s also a bit rebellious and that puts her at odds with Clark and on the radar of Lex (Michael Rosenbaum). Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) will also be a romantic interest.

iF: With Clark it's a no flight, no tights rule. For Supergirl, she's going to fly, but are you giving here the "no tights" rule too?

GOUGH: Kara will have flights, but no tights

iF: Will Supergirl be learning her powers like Clark did during the season or will she be more advanced when we meet her than Clark and serve as sort of a mirror to Clark's evolution?

GOUGH: Kara will be more advanced, although there will be powers that Clark teaches her about and vice versa -- perhaps Clark will even attempt "flying lessons."

iF: How will Bizarro fit into all of this and will the character have a season-long arc?

GOUGH: You are just gonna have to wait and see about Bizarro like everybody else, but I'll tell you one thing, he won't be completely vanquished in the season opener like Zod was.

Info from iF Magazine.

Thanks for the new thread.

I found some new Kara previews with Clark and Kara.

YouTube - Kara Clip #1
YouTube - Kara Clip #2

And a Laura interview with also another scene with Clark and Kara. Very funny. They remind me a scene between them on the animated series.
