IMO, there was no where to go with Lorelai & Luke except marriage & kids after what happened in S6, and while that might be exactly what L/L shippers want to see, I don't think that's how ASP wanted to end things for Lorelai. She wanted her to have options. I also think she never intended to have Lorelai begin another family on screen, taking her focus away from Rory. I do think she wanted Lorelai to have a reward for having made the right choices and sacrifices to raise Rory. And that reward isn't just raising more kids. It's her getting back some of the options that she gave up by having and raising Rory to begin with. Dreams change, you don't stop dreaming because you achieve a goal. So Lorelai achieved her stated dream, does that mean there's nothing more for her to achieve in life? She can just sit back and watch the world go by? Or can she use that success as a launch to see if there's more out there for her as well? She might. And the only way to do that is to make her relationship with Luke go south in a semi permenant way that drove a wedge between them that wouldn't be easily fixable. Chris is easily that wedge. Because for her to explore what's possible she needs to not be as tied to Stars Hollow as she would be with Luke or in a marriage with kids. Lorelai is an unconventional character, and always has been. I think ASP wanted to maintain that spirit for her. I think by imploding Luke, with Chris, thus massively kicking the L/L can down the road, she opened back up for Lorelai a more unconventional life than marriage & kids. Which is the most tradition bound route she could go with her. Rory's the one that's always been written as a more traditional character. She's the one that The DSR has said of her relationship, "they will deepen & intensify"...and that "they will grow closer as a couple." Of Luke & Lorelai he's said, "They will always be in one another's lives." Which could mean anything from marriage and kids to she goes back to the diner. But it certainly leaves open the idea that she doesn't get back together with him any time soon. It might not be what you want to see. Maybe you want her to have a very traditional life from here forward. But thinking the writers of this show both past & present are trying to give her a more non tradtional one than happily-ever-after marriage & kids, isn't an invalid interpretation. I'm not saying that won't ever happen, I'm just saying I don't think it will happen on the show, but in a future, not seen on screen. Lorelai got the inn when Rory graduated from Chilton. Lorelai getting opportunities when she graduates from Yale, not just new obligations and apron strings, seems very symetrical to me. Last edited by lemon tart : 11-15-2006 at 06:47 AM.

Chris' outfit does mean nothing, an episode can play on more than one day. And thanks to Lorelai's behavior towards her parents in the last episodes, I fear the worst actually. Hope it's not another phonecall (Francine maybe?) or Emily spots the ring scenario, but Lorelai will tell them herself. __________________ The straw that stirs the drink 1-1-1-1-1

| I did note one thing last night, we have no clue where Chris & Lorelai got married. Yes, it was supposedly in Paris. But they could have stopped off in Maryland and done it there. The marriage is going to be legal and have all the consiquences that entails. Though why so many want it to not be legal is beyond me. Will it hurt Luke less if it's not legal? I somehow doubt it. | |||

| Mornin' All... Some comments about last night's eppy.... How many times was Lorelei going to say ILY? I think she does love him, but she's not IN LOVE with him, something that Chris is not realizing....What was with all the "remember in high school?" ugh. so cheesy..... I've decided to call Rory's new friends, the "Rainbow Brite twins" - they looked ridiculous with that hair...Speaking of hair, Marty looks much better....I actually liked Lane and Zack in this eppy way more than Lor and Chris - and that's saying a lot about how much i like Lor and Chris scenes...and finally, I hope SP is collecting a big check for his three lines of dialogue! LOVED THE PROMO - Did you see Lorelei staring at Luke? and that fight scene looks AMAZING!!! YAY! I am going to spec about the L/L/C triangle.... Please let me know your thoughts... Of course, we know that LL will have small moments - April sickness, Knit-a-thon, Luke spotting the ring, and the little baby.... Ep 11 The Chris/Luke fight -Why? I definitely think Chris is going to start it. Maybe say something about the punch from earlier in the season. Chris is definitely going to start getting petty and jealous, causing the rift b/w he and Lorelei. I think he knows deep down that their union this time was never right. What if Luke gets arrested and Lorelei asks Chris to drop the charges b/c Luke is in a custody battle? If Chris says no (probably b/c Luke totally wins the fight), then there's a problem for his "Lor." Ep 12 and 13 The Richard illness - Luke has totally helped her through this before and we all know that Luke is a rock in a crisis. If Chris starts acting immature (as AA spoiled) when times are bad, uh oh, a big no no in Lor, and Rory's, minds. Marriage definitely starts disintegrating... Ep 14 Lorelei really realizes her marriage is over. I think she is also going to understand why it isn't good to rush into a marriage after being pressured by your partner, ie exactly what she wanted Luke to do. Richard is well. Cue the happy music. OR In a very soap opera-y twist, after Richard gets better, Lorelei gets sick and she falls into a coma, causing her to mutter Luke's name while she's unconscious, finally convincing Chris that she is still in love with Luke. Ep 15 L/C break up. Very dramatic. Ep 16 and 17 L/L run ins. Back to the show we love. Town events. Cute LL scenes. Ep 18 L/L reunion Ep 19 L/L engaged/wedding planning Ep 20 engagement party Ep 22 The big wedding. FINALLY! Cue the happy music. Now, If it's not the Series finale, there may be an unexpected guest at the wedding. OR Lorelei is sick and passes out! LOL __________________ Luke: "I just like to see you happy." | I haven't seen the last ten minutes of the episode - did they show those Parisian hotel kitchen scenes that they were supposedly shooting extra on a Sunday some ten days ago? __________________ the CANOE and the KAYAK Sign Petition For More Gilmore Girls | |||

| lkelve, is that your Christmas wish list? I didn't care for the episode because it all seemed a bit too forced. The way all the 'romantic scenes' led to the proposal. The way they brought Marty back. All very forced, I thought. __________________ “I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.” - Robert McCloskey icon illustration by Robert Neubecker | |||

| I finally saw the episode, yay! Thanks blaab! And I enjoyed it. I even liked the pink streaks in R's hair. And Brian's "could you please pass the bulgogi" ![]() This might sound kind of cheesy, but I was thinking that the "theme" for the episode was "growing up"--with the 3 stories of Lane/Zach, Lorelai/Chris, and Rory. L/Z were going on about being parents, finally, and having to make their own decisions; L/C kept on talking about their shared adolescence (there was a point to that, other than to emphasize their shared history), and Lorelai's comment about not wanting to leave Paris, and wishing they could be that way forever really struck me. I still think she and Chris both are hanging on to the idea/fantasy of finally getting together and being a family together--something they couldn't do at 16...it is the idea they are enamored with, even though they may genuinely love each other in their own way. I believed Lorelai when she said ILY to Chris, but she did have doubts about getting married so soon, that was also clear to me. So in that sense, Chris and Lorelai have yet to see their relationship from their "present" eyes, not from their 16-year-old eyes (their return to SH will begin their awakening, I think). And Rory of course. I am much less frustrated now than before I had watched the episode, because I could finally hear and get her saying she was "standing at the edge of a cliff/abyss with a ton of fog" in front of her. She always knew where she was headed, but I guess being a senior in college on the verge of graduation is a whole different bag. Chilton and journalism and Yale were plans she had charted out with her mother since she was 2, but now she has to make her own decisions. And it can be mind-boggling, especially if your boyfriend is already out there in the thick of his career. Part of what may be confusing and constraining Rory is her relationship with Logan, because she needs/wants to plan her future in the context of that relationship, the long-term-ness of which she is uncertain of as yet. Marty was just weird. And the way he was looking at and touching Lucy seemed kind of "off"... Last edited by secret life : 11-15-2006 at 08:05 AM. | |||
