LORELAI'S HOUSE – KITCHEN
[Lorelai, Chris and Rory are having diner]

RORY: So what else, tell me France.

LORELAI: Okay…here it is…Um…while we were in France, your dad and I, we got married.

RORY: What.

LORELAI: We got married.

RORY: You got married married?

LORELAI: Married married.

RORY: Really?

LORELAI: [nods and half smile]

RORY: [pretending to be happy] Um, wow, wow, um, congratulations, that’s, that’s so great.

CHRISTOPHER: Thanks, we’re so excited.

RORY: Um, how, when?

LORELAI: Um…

CHRISTOPHER: two days ago, in Gabriney (sp), it a little town about an hour outside Paris, it’s where Rena had his studio when he painted the water lilies.

RORY: Oh so you guys just went there to get married?

LORELAI: Oh no no no, we just went there to walk around, to see the lilies, and then um it started raining and there was this little church and er it…

CHRISTOPHER: It was so beautiful and we were so happy and.

RORY: Wow

CHRISTOPHER: The ceremony was in French so there is a 90% chance we’re actually married, there’s a 10% chance, we’re issued a very expensive dog licence.

RORY: Um wow, wow um, I’m so happy for you guys.

LORELAI: Really [nodding]

CHRISTOPHER: You know we need Champaign, do you have Champaign?

LORELAI: Arr, in the cooler in the garage maybe.

CHRISTOPHER: Okay

LORELAI: Okay.

CHRISTOPHER: I’ll be right back.

LORELAI: Okay

[Chris leaves]

LORELAI: [exhales] Well?

RORY: What.

LORELAI: What do you think?

RORY: What do you mean.

LORELAI: I mean what do you think.

RORY: I don’t know mum, I can’t believe you did this.

LORELAI: Are you mad?

RORY: Yes I’m mad.

LORELAI: Rory..

RORY: Just stop, okay don’t.

LORELAI: Okay but..

RORY: I can’t do this right now because dad is about to come back in here and I can’t.

LORELAI: Okay.

[Chris returns and the girls are quite]

CHRISTOPHER: Unfortunately, we went all the way to France and didn’t came back with a bottle of Champaign. So we’ll have to make do with a bottle of California‘s finest

RORY: [smiling] It’s okay.

[cork pops]

I don't think it's terribly complicated, you want them together no matter if that's what's best for Lorelai or Luke right now as individuals. It's pretty selfish to me.

I, on the other hand, hope that if things happen next week the way I suspect, and I reserve the right to change my mind once the episode airs, want Logan to walk away. Because that's what's best, for him. And ultimately for Rory as well. But he's done everything, outside of asking her to marry him, which he might not think she's ready for, given their ages, to show her how much he loves her, how committed he is to their relationship. If she isn't there yet, or isn't going to get there, then perhaps he's better off without her. At which point I want her to go through the same thing he went through last season, realizing her life is better with him in it than it is alone, that she loves him enough to make the accomidations and choices that are better for them, not just herself.

He's already shown himself willing to make those choices. She hasn't. If she is, then I'm all for them staying together, getting engaged, and potentially married in S8. If not, Logan's better off finding someone that will be the person he needs in his life. And Rory's better off alone figuring out what she really wants.

shouldn't we be getting sides like today? Yesterday was 8 days, but figuring in that maybe they had veterans day off... where are the blocked sides?

I wonder if the 90% legal, 10% not legal is supposed to just be a witty remark by Chris OR an anvil regarding legality issues which will surface OR a tease to get some fans' hopes up that the marriage is invalid.

Lorelai says, EVERYTHING. She's said it several times. Yes, she means the Ivy League education and opportunities that provides. She also talks about, in PS I Lo... that she doesn't want Rory to have the same bad luck at love she does. To be able to express it if she feels it. Rory manages that in WTTD by going out on a limb to tell Logan she loves him, with no expectation of reciprocation.

Everything is just that, everything. It's a word w/o qualifiers.

Because I don't think Chris is the one she's upset about. She gets that Chris has always wanted this, and she can see how happy he is at the moment. It's lorelai that she's upset with.

Hello all. Popping my head out of lurkdom to say that director's cut is something else.

Lorelai has been bugging me since episode 2, mostly the way she's been written so overly schmoopy with Chris. (FWIW, I thought the NY Times piece was pretty much on the money. Except for the slam about none of the guys being up to her level, because I think Luke is. Others disagree, I know, I know... )

I think LG is too good an actress to not know what she's doing, so I think it's been writer and director choices. But watching her in that short clip...wow. She gives a Stepford Wives-smile after Chris says they're "so excited," like she has to remind herself of that fact. "Excited. Yes. We are. (Must. Keep. Smiling.)

And then, as she tries to decribe how the wedding happened to Rory...it's like SHE doesn't know how it happened, like one minute she was innocently hanging out with the lilies, and then... And Chris jumps in to finish the story. It was just so well played on LG's part.

I hate this plot development and I wish they hadn't bothered to go there. But I gotta say, I really want to see how this all plays out now. So, damn. I guess they hooked me back.

Probably she doesn't want to hurt Chris, while she knows she can be honest towards Lorelai. Who figured out she isn't happy anyways and all by herself.

well, she was willing to hurt lorelai, and not chris. hm...that's not what should happen, she was hurt by him many times in the past. why wouldn't he be hurt for a change? tell him what she really thinks and that's it.
