I thought it was done very well and Luke did exactly the right thing with removing her from the diner although the trying to 'fix' things usually results in a greater elevation of emotion much like a two year old thf.
Heh. Yup. I remember having these hormonal emotional outbursts. And as a nanny of two toddlers I know a little something about two year old temper tantrums. They aren't all that far apart. I remember once after my 11 year old neice had an overly dramatic moment, my brother in law asked if it always had to be like that. My sister just laughed and was all like oh just wait cause this is only the beginning.

I must say that VM is not a great crier, but she's young so I would give her time to learn about that kind of acting.

I don't think the scene was too much. I think it was well written and hit the emotions correctly. I think VM pushed too far. Like I said, I think VM could have used some help from Kenny Ortega here. That's what a director is supposed to do. The scene I think would have pulled more emotional punch, on the screen, not on the page, with a bit quieter tone. Instead of a broad over the topness a quieter despondancy could have worked well.

Thanks Lemon again for explaining it so well

Yes, Jason, it IS too much for the 13 year old and I am quite familiar with pre-teen and teenage outbursts as I was a teenager not two years ago, plus I have my pre-teen sister. Something hit me the wrong way on that scene. I think VM needed better direction so she'd hit the spot right...SP, LG, Alexis Bledel especially, who has had lots of experience in freak outs, temper tantrums, and crying. All three actors have had outburst scenes and they hit right because the actors are comfortable in their elements and have experience/knowledge in how to pull off a scene without ruining its message.

I hope VM gets better at it. She was doing so well up til now. I have loved her acting aside from this week. Her deadpan humour, mixed with her pre-teen/teenage mind and her geekiness mesh really well.

I thought the same thing when I watched it last night.

**** quiet despondency. If you are a geek. If you are a geek that somehow has friends. After years of being on the outside. You sure the **** are not going to get all Kirosawa with your emotions. Again, that was very much, the daughter channelling the father. William must have had a good time with Lucas. Nevertheless, Cappa, do you have to be so ominous about Chris? Yes, you hate him, and he's going down. We know already. It's like you guys are twirling your evil mustaches. Everytime you discuss Chris.

I really had no problem with April's theatrics or VM's portrayal. Thirteen year old girls are by nature little drama queens, and both the character and the actress put that out. She was both annoying and heartbreaking - yep, that's a 13 year old lol.

eta: you may need to acquire a different identity now Jason, as IA with you regarding April. oh my.

i'm a little late but thanks for the thread Gen. i loved last nights episode, it was nice to see Luke finally standing up to Anna and telling her that April was his child also and that she just couldn't make decisions about their child without talking to him first. i liked it that he called her on not even bothering to tell him she was pregnant let alone gave birth to their child.

chris has absolutely no clue about how to interact in SH, the knitathon, sure they were raising money but the biiger point of it was so the whole town could get together, chris is flaunting the fact (at least to me) that he has money.

Oh you got that right! I wouldn't give any amount of money to go back to that age. It was just ugly. How my mother kept from killing me and my sister I'll never know.

Damn do you have your secret eye on me ?
Why should I pamper his little tush ? There are enough people out there who already do that. The guy gets on my nerves to put it nicely and I see no reason why I shouldn't be allowed to express that. You complain about the critics and reviews all the time because they don't match your opinion - do you see me complaining about that ? Different people, different opinions and everybody states them differently.

Thanks for the link/review. I agree with most of it but do they really think C&L will end up together and Luke in NM or is it just spin from the network sent through EW?

I liked the ep, SP was outstanding but since when did Luke became one of those annoying cell phone guys?

They are working overtime pushing the C&L stuff and as we know it will end in divorce so how will the general fans feel being pushed one way only to have the knitted rug pulled out from under their feet?

Nice to see the townies again and there special welcome for the "happy" couple.

Luke may be a grump but at least he gets the town and maybe in the end that what Lorelai needs, not someone who gets her but someone who get the "whole package" including the town she lives in.

Ian doesn't like this so he offers to hire the best lawyer (Ian's loaded) for Mike if Susan agrees to never talk to Mike again. Susan of course agreed because she still cares about Mike and wants to help him any way possible.

When I read the spoiler about Lorelai writing a character reference....I thought of the DH storyline. We know Chris finds out about the reference. What if he offers to hire the best custody lawyer for Luke if Lorelai agrees to not talk to him again. Of course Luke wouldn't take anything from Chris but Lorelai could say that she found this lawyer through her parents or something.

Any thoughts?
I'm still a couple of eps behind in DH but I could see that happening, [snark] I mean they copied the whole LLD storyline so why not [/snark]

Okee, I am highlighting this part of the post, because I thought about the following spec while reading that part. You mentioned trust and Chris being jealous of Luke. Somehow I am thinking that the letter Lorelai will write about Luke will, like someone else mentioned before, make Chris also extra insecure because of the part he played in Rory´s life compared to how Lorelai describes Luke. The jealousy has already been fueled earlier, but this letter only adds to his concern ... Add that all up and I am imagining Chris calling Lorelai again on Luke punching him after Partings and later on getting into a fistfight with him. In the line of yeah yeah what a great guy ... did you mention that in your letter? Lorelai will respond saying that he was just as much responsible for the fistfight (ep 10), Chris again will say that she is married to him and Luke already hit him also after Partings, what about some loyality. And that will lead to something that many of us have wondered about ... that night after she gave the ultimatum to Luke and well the action that left to no turning back ... that night I believe will come up again and also Chris not being there again a lot during Rory's younger years will be addressed somewhat. She might defend Luke in saying how hurt he was from what THEY had done that night, but yeah that he should have directed his anger towards her, but Luke also blamed him. Chris might have some sort of comeback about how this was what she wanted, so he shouldn't be blamed ... and I am thinking Lorelai will take responsibilty for this night, but might also ask him if he didn't see how heartbroken she really was ... not directly accusing him of something, but some remain lingering in the air ... or well at least some questions that will keep running through her mind. And well this could lead to some more ... tension I guess ... especially if Lorelai will admit that Rory did always wanted him to be there more and Lroelai should have said this to Chris. And well Luke was there for April, so why shouldn't she write this. To her that simply being fact.

Oh let me add, if anything from this spec would turn out on screen (okee, I can have some hope right ...) I do want Lorelai also to realise how she messed up ... not just Chris. Because well she did also mess up imo ... by sleeping that night with Chris and by never speaking up to Chris (again if she feels there is something to speak up about ...) about Rory also needing and wanting a father. I am thinking now she never did this, because first of all she felt bad for not marrying him when 16, sort of taking away his opportunity to be a real part of it. She might have felt that way (also because this has been emphasized by Emily and Richard and Chris himself), whether I might find that ridiculous or not is besides the point. But also because I do feel Lorelai has always felt a dissappointment herself and has difficulty to make others feel that way. And of course she might have felt guilty for actually liking to be the only one for Rory.

Because I am thinking that this will be a big thing in 12, because we have spoilers on Chris already being moody or well not being around because he is sulking over a bad fight with Lorelai. This bad fight might already have happened in ep 12. Chris is still sulking, while Lorelai is dealing with her fathers sickness, Luke is around, Lorelai probably still thinking about some things from that fight ... some questions, wondering ... she sees Luke doing what he is doing ... helping out and well, somehow this all together will lead to an epiphany ...

Gjoni, so true ... great point about Lorelai and the projecting. Yep, classic it is imo ...

About the Entertainment Weekly review. I don't really want to think about it too much ... but this line definitely made me go HUH:

Thanks, blaab. I took my happy pills.
Seriously, if an episode is worthy of praise, I shall praise it.
I absolutely adore this show and ALL the characters (yes, Rory and Logan, too JSW).
That's why I've been so smad this season. I miss the good ole days.
And, no, it's not just because they put Lorelei with Chris. LOL

By the way, AWESOME POSTS today.
