I believe that basically she's writing a letter saying why Luke should get partial custody. Like in season 4 when Lorelai was an on the spot character witness for Luke in theory... she'll just write good things about Luke for the judge to consider.

Who thinks that Lorelai may mention in the letter what a good father figure he was for Rory. That he was always there for her when she had the chicken pox for example or needed him to come to her catterpillar funeral ? Or that he went to her high school graduation.

I hope so! Why else would Chris get all pissy? And I bet this is why he gets all mopey in the next ep....poor wittle Christopher, nobody appreciates him!

And maybe another light bulb gets switched on in Lorelai's head while writing the letter. That she maybe sees now that Luke has in the end sacraficed his own happiness with her for his kid or rather being with his kid.

But the thing is it was never one or the other. Lorelai never asked for him to sacrifice his kid for her. It was either April and her or just April. He chose just April. He did not have much time to choose, but his first instinc was that.

I don't think his love for April is gonna be a shock to Lorelai. She knows he loves his daugther. What she wanted to know was if he loved her too.

Just like any father would, would he expect less from Lorelai with Rory?

Why would he expect Lorelai to leave him to be with Rory when she can have both? Luke decided to make it one or the other all on his own. It was never Lorelai or April. It was Lorelai and April or just April. I don't get why not having Lorelai as his wife makes him a better parent. I never seen Lorelai asking to leave April for her. Marrying Lorelai would not have damaged his relationship in anyway. If anything being married might have made him more stable to Anna.

My point is that he did not pick April over Lorelai. This was never his choice. He chosse not to marry Lorelai that night over marrying her. This had nothing to do with April or his parenting skils. And yes if he had asked Lorelai to marry him and she had made up an excuse that had to with Rory, he would not have though her a better parent simply because their marriage has nothing to do with Rory or April. That's why I don't think Lorelai will see their break up in her letter as a proof that Luke is good dad. Their break up had nothing to do with April and all to do about them so I don't see a realisation for Lorelai here. Luke did not choose April over Lorelai. He chose to be alone over being with Lorelai that night.
