Character Spoilers

From TV Guide's Ask Ausiello:

Question: How long will Matt Czuchry (Logan) be on Gilmore Girls?
Ausiello: If Ms. Sherman-Palladino is smart, forever. This guy's a keeper.

Question: My heart is broken after watching last week's Gilmore Girls. Please, Michael, tell me everything is going to be OK between Luke and Lorelai.
Ausiello: Spoiler alert! Everything's gonna be OK, Shawna — at least through April. After that, all bets are off.

Question: Is Christopher (David Sutcliffe) gonna return to Gilmore Girls this season? — Meg
Ausiello: He'll be back in May when Rory finds herself in the throes of a huge crisis.

Question: Regarding our favorite Girls, could you elaborate just a wee bit on that upcoming "crisis" of Rory's (Ask Ausiello 3/2)? Please tell me our increasingly naughty good girl ain't gonna get prego! — Matt
Ausiello: I can confirm for you that she ain't gonna get prego — with Logan's baby or a can of tomato sauce.

Question: What's the latest on Melanie Griffith joining Gilmore Girls? — Pam
Ausiello: The deal fell through. Melanie apparently had a "scheduling conflict," which is Hollywoodspeak for "too much Botox." An offer has apparently gone out to another actress.

Gregg Henry has been cast in the role of Mitchum Huntzbgerger.

Christopher will be in 7 episodes this season. As of 5.13, he has appeared in 5, 2 remaining.

Dean will be in 10 episodes this season. As of 5.13, he has appeared in 7, 3 remaining.

Alex Borstein is returning for season 5. She was Miss Celine in Episode 5.12.

From Fraz:
Okay a friend of mine has the same reps as the guy that plays Chris and he has already been asked how many episodes can he be available for season 6....ugh

I was saying in the Rory/Logan thread I think they need to show us what causes Logan to really decide for an exclusive relationship. I think we have to see Logan in episode 18. I wouldn't be surpised if someone (not Rory) calls him on his lifestyle and his feelings for Rory, and basically asks the guy why he can't commit. And tells him that if he continues his player ways, he's eventually going to find himself old and alone. And that a girl like Rory won't be waiting around for him to get his act together forever, she'll get tired of it, especially when some other guy comes along, who would be more than willing to over her a commitment.

OHHHhhhh, I agree. I have been thinking the same thing. I thought in the last episode that Robert was going to say something to Logan along those same lines. I think it has to happen to make sense of Logan changing his ways

Hi, all. Great board and lots of interesting ideas and views being tossed back and forth. I mainly came out of a year-long lurkdom to say I really enjoy reading Jet’s theories on the show and look forward to that in-depth analysis mentioned a couple of threads back. Also wanted to comment on posts from the previous thread:

Quote:
But Lorelai doesn't want to push Rory away by saying she doesn't like the guy or his tactics. So, instead she just listens, trying to be more friends than mom and maintain their status quo.
Lorelai realizes that Rory is no longer a child, but a young woman who is capable of making her own life decisions. Rather than belittle those decisions as taking a “destructive path”(see Emily), Lorelai lets her live and learn. That’s good mothering IMO. She’s also sometimes disparaged for being more friend than mother to Rory, but…

"There is no friendship, no love, like that of the parent for the child." -- Henry Ward Beecher

I may be wrong, but I don’t foresee any conflicts between them in the near future for a couple of reasons. First, they’ve already gone through one battle during the Dean fiasco and neither enjoyed the emotional separation. Also, after going through so much hell with her own mother, Lorelai’s not about to inflict the same on Rory and chance another rift. If there is conflict, it’ll most likely be between Lorelai (aided by Luke, Christopher or both) versus the Huntzbergers.

Quote:
what bothers me is that chris/ rory implication. i mean it's nice to create a parent/kid bond, but this crisis thing bugs me. What is that crisis that requires or causes Chris's return? And why Lor, Luke, Lane, even Paris or sb else is not enough to help?
As her father, it’s only natural for Christopher to want to be supportive and he should. If he were to remain absent during her crisis, that would bother me. People make mistakes, learn from them, then seek forgiveness and try to do better using that new knowledge. Luke, Lorelai, and Rory are all prime examples of this. Why shouldn’t Christopher be given the same consideration?

Random thought: Of all the relationships on GG, I'm most intrigued by Emily and Luke. Their S1 interaction in Forgiveness And Stuff gave us a glimpse of something that could be really interesting. I hope we get more than what we've seen this season.

Have to say, I’m really enjoying all the parallels and layering of the class and mother/daughter story lines.

~Peace

Thanks for the new thread Jet!
And welcome to the board Andromache!
Really good post! I wish I could write long good posts like this!

Back on topic:
I'm really wondering if the relationship (if you can call it like that) between Luke and emily will grow more into deep.
I mean, she was really mean when she talked to him in the diner and how she talked about him with richard but I still can't believe that she is all that .
there HAS to be something good behind her mask of evilness...at least I hope so. Because I really want those funny FND interactions again with her and Lorelai and then together with Luke. That would be so fun.

Chris:
I don't know where I'm standing there.
On one hand I really want him to care for Rory but on the other hand I want him to back off.
He is really a nice guy but sometimes he just looks like someone who has no idea of what to do with himself. So how could he help Rory if he can't even help himself?

Peanut, I’d like to see at least some sort of interaction sans the hostility. Luke clings to the memory of his father, but barely mentions his mother, probably because he was so young (do we know how young?) when she died. We can reason that there was no motherly influence in his formative years, unless Mazie or Mia filled that void. Now Luke and Emily in a sugary sweet relationship would be stretching it a bit, especially considering current events. But it would be interesting to see their interactions after they’ve reached some sort of truce/understanding with each other. Would Emily even act motherly to Luke? I’d like to see her doing it without realizing it -- again, not in a way that’s unbelievable and maudlin.

Another thought. Citing his mother’s loss, would Luke advise Lorelai to make amends with Emily despite all she’s done? I think most people who’ve lost their mother would.

I think Luke would encourage her to try to reconcile with Emily eventually. We know how important family is to Luke and he sticks by them even when they cause him pain (see Jess, Liz, etc). Of course, I don't think Luke has ever encountered someone as controlling as Emily.

I would really like to see Emily realize what a great guy Luke is and realize that if her daughter is happy, then she needs to let go of the control issues and let her be. That's the only way Lorelai will accept her back into her life.

Isn't it funny that Emily promised Luke in visit #1 that she wouldn't interfere? But when she assumes that he didn't do what she told him to do, she comes running back to the diner to interfere again.

Emily is her own worst enemy in this situation. The more she tries to control things, the worse her relationship with Lorelai is. She needs to have a wake-up call. Perhaps the "Shut Up" will lead her to some soul searching.

After episode 5.19 I would like to see Logan go talk to someone close. Perhaps his sister about what he said. It would show us how he really feels.
