They can't change it, but they could use it to make lemonade out of the lemons they gave us. Some of us don't think ending the series with Luke and Lorelai as just friends, which is how the series started, would not be sweet enough to get the bitter taste out.

Well DR is trying in his own way. Next Tuesday 3 GG girls together. Thats means something. Next one L/L get together, next one Lorelai goes to Diner. And a bunch of side stories in between.

Unless you are talking about the book and compare Luke and Lorelai to the happily married couple, with Luke doing all the delicious cooking instead of Lorelai.
Nope, I was talking about the movie which I had never bothered to see since I like the book and knew it had little, if anything, to do with the book, which I very much enjoyed. I watched it today, since I had no clue what Sandy was talking about, and while it still has nothing to do with the book, and I'm not feeling that I missed anything by having not watched it prior, I think that sort of ending for Lorelai would work. Though I think it was helped in that it has now been a very long time since I read the book. Hannah & Her Sisters was/is a great movie and I love how it ends, as well.

And Chris fans are not happy how it ended either.

So Amy screws with Luke fans by making him blind to what he was doing to the love of his life, Lorelai by making her a shell of her former self and DSR built up Chris only to cut him off at the knees. So we have half the shipper fans annoyed over the SL for the last year.

I wonder how the ratings will go when Lorelai walks into the diner, it will be hard to tell 'cause the ratings normally take an up swing at the end of the season. But will it be because of the SL or just the normal trend?

They have been stuck between 4.8 & 4.03. To me thats a million loss, but other people disagree. I'm am not one to argue. It's all greek to me, the numbers.

Of course sitting in the movie theater with friends already grumbling about what they did to the book, only to to have CHRISTOPHER show up in the last scene with his backpack and smirk only deepened my hate lol.

Personally, I'd love to see a Hannah and Her Sisters ending for Lorelai. A huge family dinner table, surrounded by broken individuals who never thought they'd find love outside or inside their family. But they do, in the least expectant people or manner.
I don't go to a movie made from a book expecting to "see" the book. To be honest, the book bored me and I liked the movie.

In any case, Christopher didn't show up at the end. I don't remember what the guy's name was. However, the character happened to be played by the same actor. Furthermore, the movie was hardly *just* about those final two minutes.

By the way, the ending of Hannah and Her Sisters and Under the Tuscan Sun (the movie) was very similar in message and spirit.

My point, except that at least I found Woody's rendering truer in his intent than the commercial rip-off of a book. JMO of course.

eta: Btw, I think Lorelai is halfway there to that wonderful ending you and I see her in: She's already realized her lifetime dream (the "wonderful possiblilty" of Christopher) was just that. Now she'll see her happy ending was something/someone entirely different.

A more accurate analogy would be if Yale expelled Rory for the felony, then she joined Colin and Finn for a year of playing poker and jumping off cliffs. Eventually she found her way back to academia. And the series ends with her walking back into a classroom at some local college, with an implied hope that she will get that degree and even end up in journalism - but NOT in the way that we always imagined.

What I want to know is what will they do with Paris next season? She's off to medical school and Rory could be off to the New York Times, so will they meet for lunch to bitch about stuff? All I can think of is Rory and Logan spend some time apart. So Rory and Paris get an apartment, don't know about Doyle, maybe they broke up? Or fo some reason the only intern ship Paris can get is at the Times also?

Any other options?

As long as I knew she would have found her way back by the end of the series, I would have been OK with what you described. Because it is HER life, not mine. I can't control what she does. (well, really, neither does she, the writers do, but that's not the point )

Sadly, you're not allowed to take pictures inside the soundstages.

Wasn't there some report that they were taking Logan's TriBeCa loft down? That only the basic outline was still visible (and this was somewhere last week)?

This sounds like what Lorelai actually did. She was on track to being an ivy league graduate with whatever life that promised for her, when she took a symbolic leap off a cliff by partying and having unprotected sex with Christopher, got pregnant and ended up walking into a community college years later, getting a business degree and becoming an inn owner. She became independent, but not in the way she imagined.

In any event, my point wasn't that the outcome is somehow "lesser" but that's it's different. And why my original analogy is less accurate, I don't know. It, in fact, addresses exactly what everyone apparently thinks Lorelai wants: a marriage, more children, and a family. Just as Francis did in *the movie*, "Under the Tuscon Sun". Francis, however, didn't get those things exactly as she envisioned, but she got them. Francis wasn't being punished, she didn't do anything wrong, and the outcome wasn't second best. The revelation for her was that the things she wanted were there all along. She *had* achieved her dream.
